If we see 'Gawn linked to New Zealand' articles then we're really in trouble14 points

Also absolute LOL at everyone being sad when 90% of posters on this site have done nothing but heap [censored] on Nibbler for most of his career. Classic Demonland.13 points

It literally says it’s got nothing to do with it! He just had a baby. He and his wife are both from SA. It’s probably a genuine request to be closer to family. Not everything is a [censored] conspiracy against the club for goodness sake!13 points

I know we often don’t agree on things, and have very opposing viewpoints on the coach, but you are 100% on the money. One thing that fatherhood has taught me is to never, ever judge what other parents may be going through and it makes me so angry when people call out other parents with newborns for ‘weak’ etc. People underestimate just how difficult it is being interstate with no support, especially for a first time parent. My wife and I did this, and we’re getting through it, but it’s nowhere near as easy people make out (for the majority) and I challenge anyone to attempt it and see for themselves.12 points

Devastated. One of my favourites. I hope the footy club do the honourable thing and release him. A real club legend and will always go down a premiership hero. He's just had a new bub and any new parent would understand how difficult parenting can be when you've got no family support which in this case Nibbler and his wife wouldn't down here in Melbourne. Your whole life perspective change the moment you become a father. Moving forward I think this now open up opportunity for the like of Laurie and say a Kynan Brown to really step up next year and take his spot that will be vacant. He's best 22 so I think an early 2nd round pick would be a suitable trade.11 points

It’s none of my business, and I could be wrong but perhaps the baby has an illness or maybe mum and dad need familial help otherwise? Having been there and not had help, flying to Adelaide isn’t the same as having someone 30 mins away.11 points

Just on Will Brodie, I do know for a fact he was a number of players we had enquired at the end of the 2021 season regarding midfield depth. This was around the time we were also chasing Dunstan. He didn't want to come across as depth especially at a club that was pretty stacked on midfield talent that had just won a flag. Pretty hard one to sell. I only know this from him being an ex bushie boy from up this way. Could it be more enticing now? I'd certainly ask the question. He was an absolute star at junior level and was rated at one stage a top number 1 draft prospect.11 points
-
Not mentioned anywhere but look at Will Brodie from Freemantle. Contracted till 2026 but cannot get a game despite 30 to 40 possession games in the WAFL. He has Serong, Brayshaw and Young ahead of him. Top draft pick, Shepparton boy and is 190 cm tall. % games in 2023 due to ankle injury and no games this season. The moneyball tip and wont cost a first round draft pick.11 points

If ANB wants to go home then we should shake his hand and wish him well. He’s earned the right to be sent off with a minimum of fuss and our best wishes.10 points

He signed on for three more years in April 2023. He'd have known a baby was on the way. I know a lot can happen in a year and half, hell I was excited to start my new job in June 2023 and now I'm looking for the door. But he'd had ten years on the place prior to signing. Sorry but somethink stinks. I'm sure his reason is genuine but seems like a "may as well at this point" scenario.10 points

There is zero evidence that either Viney or Petracca want out. You're jumping at shadows.10 points

I was expecting more dynamite in this thread. Look, to be honest, it is hard to know precisely what Kate is like as a leader, but I'm not a fan of the board. They had one important job RE facilities and very little has happened. And to put it mildly, they appear hostile to differing views. I much prefer leaders to operate quietly and collaboratively in the background, an Eddie McGuire or Jeff Kennett type would [censored] me up the wall. So I prefer to hear less, but the president and her board need to ensure the facilities are sorted by the time the likes of Trac are done. Any longer would be a disaster.10 points
-
I just want her to deliver a home base. She's been on the board long enough now to have made more headway with this project. Thats her area of expertise and specialisation. If she can't deliver this then not sure what the point of her on the board is.10 points

Have you had a baby? Knowing you are having a baby and actually having a baby is very different. Maybe his wife is struggling, maybe the baby is not well, maybe he has sick family. Life happens and football is still a career for these guys. The timing only sucks because it gives everyone another reason to pile on the club. He is contracted and if we don’t want him to go, we won’t let him go. But given he’s been such an amazing clubman, if his reasons are genuine, and there is no reason to believe otherwise, I’m sure the club will accommodate his request. And for those who thinks he won’t get us much, are kidding themselves. He’s highly regarded by those who actually understand the game. Port could fix one of their biggest issues with him, which is their flaky defensive efforts!9 points

Most people's favourite player that they didn't realise was their favourite. Will miss you Nibbler.9 points

Nibbler made the request several weeks ago according to the report. It's your timing (amongst other things) that is off.9 points
-
Will sting, but if it’s genuine would help him to get home. Lovely bloke met him a few times and wish him nothing but happiness9 points

What other Club Presidents have you heard from lately? John Olsen Andrew Wellington? Luke Sayers? Mark Korda? David Barham? Kylie Watson-Wheeler? Grant McCabe? Andy Gowers? I could go on... and on... and on...9 points

Or, and hear me out, he wants the best for the club and is just happy for us to accommodate a trade so he can move closer to home. He is contracted, means we hold the power. We won’t screw him over, and he won’t screw us over.8 points
-
The timing reeks of a leaky club, more than anything. That’s what concerns me. Why are we leaking again after years of seemingly not?8 points

This is some A-grade rubbish from you. Firstly, the article explicitly says he requested a trade weeks ago. Not this week. Secondly, there is no report or suggestion thatViney or Trac have requested trades. Thirdly, you either don’t have kids or have had a charmed run. But the suggestion that you can plan for kids and map it all out and it all goes to that plan is misguided and honestly, to those of us who do have kids, offensive. Who are you to judge him or his partner or his child on what is working for them? Take your disappointment and vent it somewhere else.8 points

Disastrous news. Not because of some sort of broader problem but because he’s a heart and soul leader of the club and a key player in our side. Largely irreplaceable.8 points

Whilst I love Nibbler and he is a good role player. He is a 28yo who is at his trade value peak. This is a good chance to get as good a deal as we would ever get for him. No being nice because he is a premiership player. Get what he is worth, will likely be top 2-3 in the Bluey this year too. Whilst we won't get the level Nibbler is atm, his position can be taught to others, he isn't a freakish talent. Hard work is what made him what he is.8 points

I am sad to hear this but family comes first. I often run into him at the local supermarket where he usually does the shopping. He is a great person who has copped more than his fair share of criticism on this platform. He has had a breakout season and will poll well in the B&F. He has been a great servant of the club played 170 odd games and is a premiership player. We have all assumed that the club will grant his request from the comments here. If so his send-off game will be against the Pies so I hope he gives them hell that day.7 points

Losing Nibbler changes a lot; his leadership, footy smarts and onfield contribution is a huge loss which start to tip my opinion from top up to rebuild.7 points

I'd like to see the club reward Kynan Brown with a full game for the next two games.7 points

It's completely fair to question the board, who has failed to deliver us a home base, a platform on which they were elected and have been very vocal on. Progress has been made, but it seems slow. I also understand that sometimes fans just want to hear from the 'leader' and be reassured, but frankly there is nothing Roffey could come out and say that would truly ease the angst amongst the supporter base. If she says anything, you'd have half the supporters saying she's just paying lip service, and the other half saying she should concentrate on running the club not making statements. It is a no win scenario. I do think that Pert and Richardson could certainly do some media in relation to our on field performance and what the focus is going to be heading into 2025. Whereas I prefer the board deal with board matters such as a home base, not football matters like our game plan or list management.7 points

I distinctively remember a young Nibbler getting onto a few in the win vs Geelong in 20156 points

This is so spot on. When it comes to family and especially parenting, it's a [censored] hard gig. We had to move away from Melbourne two months before Covid hit back up to the bush where all our folks are to start a family as there was no way we would have survived down there without any family support.6 points

These are the sorts of pea-brained takes that have been increasing on this forum for some time. Just remembered I can ignore accounts here. Wonderful.6 points

Will miss Nibbler, ripping clubman who gives his all every game. Very sad that he wont be a one club player.6 points

What a year. Will leave a massive hole in players that bust a gut in our team.6 points

Can’t see funding from the Government coming anytime soon for a home base. Was in Melbourne last month and felt like being back in Mumbai. Obviously no funds to even clean up rubbish from around the streets, sides of the freeway, or to remove weeds or cut overgrown grasses.6 points

I must admit to feeling a little bit dissapointed that we've heard rumors of Clarry being traded, Trac wanting out, Viney being chased hard by north, all while we're losing games and the wheels feel like they're falling off and we have embarrassingly small crowds and we've not really heard from Roffey, Pert or Richardson at all. I am sure they're all doing enormous work behind the scenes, but publicly i think it would have shown some strength and stability if the leaders of the club got out there a little bit more. Mind you after the SEN interview with Goody and Pert i can definitely see the argument that he could make things worse rather than better.6 points

Reminds me of every boss I have had. Face is everywhere when there is credit to be taken… goes dark when any issues arise. Just a classic [censored]!6 points

I think the question is WHERE IS KATE ROFFEY. We need to hear from her. Dees supporters are hurting. Really need some voice to calm and restore sense of control. There is still blue sky. We need to hear it. No BS though. At the moment, it feels like we are in free fall.6 points
