A couple of years ago I saw Paul Roos out at dinner. I walked up to him and said hi, he was lovely. He said he saw me at my table and wanted to introduce himself but didn’t want to come across as a “fan boy”. Anyway, I signed his napkin and left him to it.10 points

The club has put a spanner in the works of our preseason trackwatching activities by interchanging between Gosch's and Casey. As a result I thought I'd start a thread for any of the training sessions that we don't have any trackwatchers present. In this thread I will post any photos and videos that the club puts up on social media. If we have a trackwatcher at a particular session then that will have it's own thread.7 points

I take your point. I was going to do a separate AFLW Grand Final podcast but I was just post op for my shoulder surgery at the time. Whilst not the reason for talking about the AFLW Grand Final at the end on this podcast the live listener stats each week drop as soon as we start talking about the AFLW. This fact does not deter me from discussing AFLW. During the Live show the other night we had about 50 to 70 live listeners throughout and during the time that we were talking AFLW it dropped into the teens. I have the LIVE listeners stats open whilst we are broadcasting live and this dramatic drop off in listeners is a weekly occurrence when we start talking about AFLW. To be clear this lack of interest whilst disheartening does not dissuade me from covering AFLW on the podcast or helping to promote the game in any way that I can. I recognise that the more that we cover the game and give it exposure the more interest that there will be. I have no such stats to draw on from the downloaded/streamed shows once they are uploaded as listeners drop off stats aren’t provided. Engagement on Demonland’s various social media pages is also quite low for any AFLW content we posts (with the exception of the Premiership winning post after the Grand Final). Whilst I understand that mens content engagement is going to trump the womens, the gulf at the moment is huge. We should promote the game more and give it equal billing but I don’t think Demonland as a website can be accused of ignoring the women’s games. We post a match preview & report prominently each week and there is discussion of the games and any news. One of our first interviews on the podcast was with Mel Hickey. This was organized directly through Mel. At another time I requested an interview with an AFLW player through the club and I didn’t receive a response back and haven’t actively tried again. I hope to promote the women’s game on Demonland and the podcast more in the future and do appreciate the feedback.6 points

They generally don't train on a Tuesday. Monday, Wednesday & Fridays are usually the training days. I assume if the club website says Friday is at Gosch's then that is an "Open" session. Therefore Wednesday is probably a "Closed" (or non advertised) session at Casey. From: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/training-times AFL Training Sessions Date: Friday 16 December Time: 9.30am Location: Gosch's Paddock *Please note: Training times and locations are subject to change at late notice.3 points

We sponsor Paxy so we should try and get her on. Amongst lots of other things, I'd be really interested in her take on the tactical differences she sees between the men's and women's game3 points

Appreciate your efforts DL, and that it’s a fine balance to walk when you’re trying to maximise engagement/listenership of your men’s content. I agree that keeping on giving it space is the way to go. There’ll always be people who disagree one way or the other, but I like to think things will ever-so-gradually trend a certain way. It increasingly sounds like you guys have plenty to say about it (and surely all listeners can get on board umpire complaints!). Plus, a lot of the amateur AFLW media I hear is from people who comment on AFLW only, in a league-wide sense, so it’s good to have the Demon perspective from a slightly different angle out there. And if you’re looking for a chaotic interview, maybe try for Maeve Chaplin next season haha! Hopefully with a break after the two seasons in a year, players might be more available—I did hear a few on various fan podcasts in the lead-in to finals, so fingers crossed.3 points

Clearly we multiple options for a variety of positions next year. A great place to be. Injuries will often dictate options but I'm hoping we return to form being the deciding factor for selection each week. It's why Bowie kept his spot after Hunt recovered and Jones didn't play in the finals despite many of us wanting him to in 21. It will ensure pressure for spots which ultimately makes us a better team.3 points

We have the best 22 in the league. Get them fit, get them mentally fresh and we are in this up to our necks3 points

Congratulation on the podcast Andy, George and Bin. My only comment is that I think you should have led with the Women's GF win. It was epic, just the most inspiring effort and the determination and courage they showed was of the highest quality. That flag has been 7 years in the making and IMO deserved top billing. JT gets a go every year. And on the comment made by Bin (I think) who said we had to change our gameplan when we realized the ground was so soft we couldn't bounce the ball. I reckon Brisbane's gameplan is even more dependent on outside run and speed. IMO it probably helped us. I thought JT was interesting about JVR. He's 19, don't expect too much. With Grundy coming in and Max playing more minutes forward I think BBB, Tmac and JVR will share duties. Half a season for JVR at most I'd think (subject to form and injury of course). And it was interesting that we got new software that allowed us to view Seston's highlights for the last two years. I wonder how long that software has been available and we didn't have it. Anyway, thanks for your effort's lads, most entertaining.3 points

I don't think the funding is the problem, it's no location. But it is all so secret how would we know.3 points

Factually correct as all of our 3 teams have won flags within 2 seasons .. but it’s 2022 and the MFC is the only club without a truly home training base they call their own! The continued failure by successive boards to find a home whilst the cats get 140 mill, dogs & tigers get 70 mill in funding is a joke! Current board have done great in off the the field and produce healthy profits, but we are last on the ladder for training base3 points

Of course there is only real pressure for spots if lack of performance means demotion and performance at Casey earns promotion.!2 points

People expected West Coast to be easy beats like last year are in for a shock. They could barely field a team for the first half of the year and then tanked the rest2 points

FB: Corr Logue McDonald HB: Hall McKay Tucker C; Howe Cunnington Taylor HF: Sheezel CCJ Thomas FF: Zurhaar Larkey Ziebell Foll: Goldstein LDU Simpkin Int: Scott, Shiels, Greenwood, Stephenson I think they’ll go with far more experience to start next year. Shiels and Howe should be used to buy some time and provide mature bodies. Thats a team without Wardlaw, Phillips, Powell, Goater, Comben, Curtis and of course George. Which means they can be allowed to develop at a far more appropriate rate. Certainly very nice of the afl to give them 2 extra rookie spots to carry veterans and the extra second rounders to bring in Logue and Tucker. We had to trade for Vince and Tyson and use a list spot on Cross and others.2 points

I posted this in ‘No T$ No BS’ but despite its thread title it’s actually full of both those things. Therefore only a small group of us moderately unhinged types read it. 😁 This is a pic my buddy took last night at the Billy Joel concert. Seems the drummer has picked the right team…2 points

Like us after 2019, you come back with a much fixture normal (haven't looked depth) and a lot more teams have put more work into you, to find your weaknesses. The test is how well they adjust to the change. They need to find goals and Jackson's not the answer there, so where do they come from. Their mids aren't big goal kickers.2 points

If we get back to our best we can beat any team anywhere. Bring 'em all on! We need to be challenged and we need to challenge others Relish the games against the best and that includes the Cats on their ground2 points
-
Possible. They have a pretty brutal middle part of the year though. If they drop only 1 or 2 of those first five games it may change their fate dramatically. At least at the start of the year the poorer sides typically are more competitive, with greater chance of upsets.2 points
