  1. "I wish I knew where I wanted to be where I wanted to be where I was today" Just another day out at Beautiful Casey fields today Demonlanders, coolish day some minor precipitation around. The endless drone of the school sports adjacent, did nothing to drown out the crecendo of the largely techno Music emanating from the P.A system and although some of the songs were likable compared to other occasions The rhetorical cataclysmic monotone of the house musak was still somewhat annoying. You know the stuff..... "Went to the Party, Had some Bacardi, went to the disco , all dressed as Cisco, took a swig of drink, which forced me to think, yeah Im here baby, come and back me, before they ready to sack me! Anyway on to training... hold on, what is that Sound???? Crikey, oh wow! Is that a Delorean??? Oh no couldn't be , could it!? Picket Fence " Doc, Marty, What are you doing here?" Doc, " Where are we and who are you"? Picket Fence, " I am known around these parts as The "Picket Fence" Marty, "I don't see any Pickets around here, strange name" Picket Fence, "You don't know half of it" Doc " Great Scot, Marty what do the time sensors say" Marty, "Hang on Doc..... 4th April 2022 1.41 pm 2022 DOC WE HAVE GONE INTO THE FUTURE" Doc, "GREAT SCOT not only time but space as well, Where are we"? Picket Fence "You are in Australia, and this place is Casey Fields training ground of the mighty Melbourne Demons" I do training reports see over there, that's the Dees training." Doc " Picket or whatever you are called, I need to find a power source measuring 1.21 Gigawatts of power to get us back to the future" Picket Fence" Relax Doc, Marty, I have all the power you need" Marty "Where"? Picket Fence " As everyone knows now Electric powered cars are almost a way of life, just hook up the Delorean, drain all available power thus descending Casey into darkness and in no time you will be on your way." Doc" Of course, this is something I have dreamed about and its all coming back to me, I was hanging something above my toilet, slipped , hit my head on the porcelain and I had a vision Picket Fence, " I know this line Doc, Ive seen the movie a million times, THE FLUX CAPACITOR"? Doc " Not quite right, "THE FLUX CAPACITOR MRK 2 WITH IMPULSE GIGAWATTERS SOLARISED AND DEODORISED, WITH ELECTRODES" T.M Marty " This script is getting wackier and crazier by the minute" Picket Fence "Agree... Ok here's the deal, You guys hang out with me I'll finalise the Training report and I'll give you a tow to the nearest Power station, deal?? Doc " Well Ok, these boys sure look good, Marty "Heavy Duty Doc" One other thing the roads around here are diabolical, Road works, Potholes a DEESGRACE! Doc "Roads???? Where were going we don't need any.... ROADS"! ABSENT Mitch Brown, also didn't notice Jake Melksham, BBB. Jake Spencer also a notable absence. ON MODIFIED DUTIES Michae Hibberd, Oskar Baker and Deakyn Smith at some stage looked to be sitting out a drill or so NOTABLE TRAINERS (full training) SKILLS DRILLS AND MANOUVERS Interestingly the Mid fielders and Forward lines came out first and completed a session of midfield Center Bounce set ups and set plays for around 15 -20 minutes. Also of interest Luke Dunstan was in this group, but no other Casey players. The Forwards were completing set shot routines from various distances. Squad then went inside for about 10 minutes before reappearing and completing a pretty solid session , which I think would be the main session seeing as we play Thursday Night SKILL A Each player had a partner roughly positioned 15 Meters away kneeling down it was stand and in one movement deliver pass, This then was Stretched out progressionally until 40 meters away. Another interesting aspect was players had to spin 3 and 4 times and pivot and dispose of the ball after doing "The ring a ring a Rosie" SKILL B This is a very Melbourne maneuver that I have seen before and is replicated in games, Using the 3 and 4 man weave, players overlap , handball and then set up projectile kick into oncoming players who do exactly the same thing . It not unusual to mix this up by going to the next group or to handball back to originator. This is a drill of beauty and when we do this in games leads to the exhilarating runs and carry that when we play well obliterates the opposition. SKILL C, D, E,F These were multidisciplinary events which had groups of 4, 5, 6 7, 8 doing a myriad of small discrete open and cloze setups. It might have been Clarry, Vines, and Tracc doing breakaways in stoppages or Forwards practicing leading patterns, In tight handball and keepings of drills. At any time there were about 9 or 10 things happening SKILL G BLITZKRIEG KAMAKAZI BALL Players alternated between pink shirt harassers and players in a glorified keepings of routine HIGHLIGHTS AND PLAYER WATCH Probably the best thing to see was Jake Lever participating in full training and he looked very good. Unless he pulls up sore I'm sure he will play Thursday night. Likewise, Harrison (Tom) Petty ain't a heartbreaker no more looked very good on the track and unhampered by his injury. Kade Chandler is an interesting player, seems to have some tricks, kicked a couple yesterday looks a likely type, who trained well. Likewise Jacob Van Rooten, Blake Howes, Judd McVee and Andy Moniz-Wakefield continue to impress. Taj Woewodin is a nice size and continues to learn the caper. All in all and energetic session and one which looks to be preparing us well for the game against Port Adelaide Thursday night. Minimal injuries and the likelihood of both BBB and Jake Lever coming in will cause selectors pleasant headaches. Righto Doc, Marty lets get you "BACK TO THE FUTURE" P.F

  3. Enjoy the moment and enjoy each win. After a lifetime of playing and watching sport, I follow the old adage of not getting too far ahead of oneself. Injury and other unforeseen variables can change the picture very quickly. And we have had 3 rounds. Lets just enjoy now.

  6. While not exactly the same type as Hibberd, Smith, who is playing well atm, is 6 years younger and 5 cms taller, with a bigger leap, is a better mark and probably just as quick. So do you keep putting the games into Smith, or bring Hibberd back. I would stick with Smith.

  8. Wasn’t gonna pay any mind to this but woke up this morning feeling like death and need to ask you nicely to not post statements about how we all got vaccinated for nothing. Yes, we can still get it/pass it on but I know that had I not been vaxxed I would in all likelihood be in hospital rn. Defs not starting a battle here, but please think before you make this type of statement. 🙏

  10. Sydney - play a similar style to us, good even spread across the ground. Very talented side and superbly coached. Brisbane- talent on every line. Excellent midfield. Will challenge again. Question marks over their ability to get it done in finals and at the MCG. Carlton- I have my doubts about their defense and defensive work rate but their mids and forwards are elite GWS- can be and do anything but probably won’t Geelong - old Dogs- poor defensively The rest do not keep me awake at night.

  12. Ooze is my all time favourite player. Back in the days when you could watch the reserves before the seniors, I used to watch them every week. In his first year, he hadn't done much first half of the season in the twos. We went to Waverley to watch St Kilda and Yze played on Tim Pekin ( who played a lot of senior footy for Fitzroy and St Kilda) in midfield and absolutely destroyed him, had about 40 touches and was BOG by a mile. The next day in the paper he wasnt listed in the bests and Pekin was named Saints best. Was the strangest list of best players I've ever seen. As fate would have it, Ooze was listed in the emergencies next game against Richmond and I think Clay Sampson pulled out of the team late so he got a gig. That was the situation of his first game FWIW.

  17. Carlton remind me of a 2018 Melbourne. Alot of hype, and deservedly so but the pressure will mount as the performances stack up. They have the star power in a similar way that we did but it will take time IMHO

  18. Revisit this in 3 weeks. 6 Rounds is enough to start judging form Brisbane are a good side, Carlton will get better, Whorethorn you never discount. Even with an ordinary list, they can turn it on 3 more weeks…

  19. Kynan Brown has made the official Oakleigh Chargers squad this year as a bottom age prospect. Is eligible for father son next year. Oakleigh will be quite strong this year and young Kynan was named emergency for today's win against Sandringham Dragons. From what I have been told, Kynan is around the 180cm mark and is a tough midfielder who goes in hard.

  20. All doom and gloom at bigfooty: If Brown does miss, we'll at least get ten goals closer... We may do better in this game. No expectations, we'll be rank outsiders and there'll be less crowd pressure. It's deck chairs on the titanic after only 3 rounds 25k ? Id be surprised if 20k turn up at this point. I have been a member since 1997 and at the moment I would rather stick pins in my eyes then witness another week of that [censored]. Play the kids and see what they can do. We are done this year. I’m glad it happens this early in the season, so the club has time to search for a new coach. I’d be surprised if we keep this under a 80 point loss. A Dee-struction on the national stage will go down a treat. Ben Brown to kick another 10. We are f’ed, gave away all out depth when we were back to back prelim finalists..Joke of a club at the minute Max Gawn hasn't been killing 'em in ruck this year but once again Melbourne run two big men in Gawn supported by Jackson. It is amazing how other sides seem to be able to run two big men but we can't. I am losing patience with Connor Rozee as he has talent but seems to have hit a plateau. If Duursma can get the drop so can Rozee. He can take Motlop with him. I'm trying to envisage how Port can choose a 22 to win this game. Maybe if the Dees have a bad night in front of the big sticks, we might be a slim chance - otherwise 0-4 is a certainty. Honestly we are no chance. It’s a matter of how much. Even with a full list and Petracca and Oliver rested, we still lose. Our only hope is to have each team we play affected by covid but remain clean ourselves. My god we are going to get hammered. Melb by 71 points. Who ******* cares I suspect this Melbourne side would have given any of the sides; great Geelong side of 07-11, hawthorn of 13-15, Brisbane and port of 01-04, a good shake. So no chance we win. But you do get to see some of the game’s great players whoop us so….. And for good measure, a hint of optimism: I’ve got a strange feeling that we will win. The reality is it really should’ve been a 5 goal win against the crows if we didn’t butcher so many easy chances and the crows actually missed.

  23. After a really poor defensive game against Essendon, we have dropped off the top of the best defensive team ladder for 2022. Last week we conceded scores from 51% of Essendon's entries. In 2021 only the Collingwood (53%) game was worse with the next poorest being the Crows (43%) game. Hawthorn's defence is tracking very well. If they keep this up they are likely playing finals. Carlton continue to be hyped up but don't have a premiership defence yet. Reminder, the last time a premier was not ranked top 5 in this stat was 1999.

  25. Marty Fields has this outstanding take on Carlton's chances this year: "Carlton are 13-1 for the premiership. Which means if you put $50 on, you will lose $50."

  26. The Blues could cause us some trouble. Curnow is coming good and is excellent support for McKay. Cripps is back to his best and with Walsh, Cerra, Hewitt and Kennedy they have midfield depth.

  29. Dropping Weideman after one game, where he performed, sends a bad message to the list. Hunt went down, Bowey came in, rest is history. You can't say to the blokes on the fringe, be patient, stay keen, your moment will come. And when it does, we'll then discard you for our favourite player. The depth we have in part comes from the (so-far) fact that when your moment comes, if you perform, you keep playing. And players who don't perform (eg Brown mid-last year) will create opportunities for others. We can't dilute the strength by playing favourites. Tough selection dilemma, but it's the kind of problem we could only have dreamed of in years past.

  30. Agree, whether you think Weideman played a great game or just a serviceable game he did what was asked of him, dropping him after one game in and what he's been through to get here couldn't help his confidence. I think T-mac needs to take one for the team here. I know he's still working his tail off when he doesn't have the ball but Brown needs to come in.

  31. Civility is your only criterion? Sensitivity doesn’t get a guernsey? Cool. I need to take a break from DL anyways, so thank you for providing me with another (and deciding) reason, albeit unwittingly. 👍🏽

  32. Or its young Jacob himself just putting it out there :) I was disappointed he didn't play on the weekend was keen to see if he could carry on from the game against Sandy in which he did show some promise Personally think he will make a good player given time - seems to understand the game well, is already physical, can mark and is looks like a pretty accurate kick Fortunately we are no longer a team that needs to rush fist year players into the team and I hope he is allowed to settle and build confidence - he will be picked when he is ready - I would be very surprised if that's anytime in the first half of this season (absent covid issues or injury restricting others availability)

  33. We won’t know if Weideman can replace TMac until we play Weideman in his position Weideman played a traditional FF role on the weekend in replacing BB. Tmac plays a high forward role and does a power of work with his leading patterns which actually frees the forwardline up and gives BB and Fritta space to lead into. I am unconvinced that Weideman has the tank to play that very important role, however I totally agree that we need to let him try because TMac is not in good form and other than his aerobic capacity isn’t giving us much in terms of marking or goal kicking.

  34. I get that Tmac will probably go out but let's not be too harsh on the bloke that helped win us a flag. He turned his form around once and may again. As happy as I am about Weid it's still only one game this far. I hope he continues and Tmac is a decent spare.

  36. Lever and Petty compliment May to perfection. He struggles with tall athletic type forwards, and Lever and Petty cater for that. Petty can take them on his own, but having Lever come third man up makes it tough for forwards. Having those two back in will ease the burden for May a lot. We will be a far better side for their inclusions. We’ve had to contend with Norton and Wright having their way with us so far this year. We shouldn’t have to deal with that happening again.
    4 points
  37. You might be right Bing. Brown is one of the players that cones straight back in when fit (Lever and petty are the only others that are currently not in the team). So a tall has to come out - and weed made a very strong case it shouldn't be him. And tmac didn't have a good game, on the back of a couple of just ok games. But it really depends on how well he has been playing his role - in particular his gut running up and down the ground, providing a hit up target, blocking and bringing the ball to ground. On the final one, he failed to do so a few times whe out marked inside our 50. But the others are harder to assess. Does weed have the tank, and strength in one on one contests, to play tmac's role? I doubt it, so expect tmac to keep his spot. Tomo will definitely make way for Lever when he comes back.
