  1. Congratulations for the 100th game on Monday. You have worked hard to improve yourself and your game every year from debut in 2016. In every way you do yourself and the red and blue proud. Would love it to be at the 'G'. One of the sad parts of this season has been to not be able to watch your talents live. Hoping the team brings the win home for you.

  2. Bugger you guys. Top five wins: Elimination Final over Geelong. Loved every minute. Semi Final over the Hawks. Just as sweet. Rd 22 vs the Eagles in Perth. Securing finals. 2017 Queens Birthday win against the Pies. Watts kicks the sealer. 2017 win over the Eagles. Tom Mac kicks the sealer.

  3. The trouble is the kitchen is destroying resonable discourse and encouraging lunatic theories and non-facts. I stay out of it (other than here) and heartily wish it would burn down.

  4. Is it just me or is scheduling just the one game of footy on a Saturday, and that one game being 1st v 17th is woefully crap scheduling by the AFL.

  6. Why stop at five? 1. Round 23, 2017 vs Collingwood for obvious reasons 2. Round 2, 2019 vs Geelong - confirmation of everything I was worried about after the pre-season 3. Round 21, 2018 vs Sydney - had finals in our grasp and botched it. Fortunately wiped out by heroics the next week 4. Round 15, 2018 vs St Kilda - caving against a lowly team when there were serious finals implications 5. Round 4, 2018 vs Hawthorn - mitigated somewhat by belting a heap of sides a few weeks later 6. Round 19, 2017 vs North when we had a roaring wind in the last quarter and couldn't overturn a six point deficit. 7. Round 9, 2020 vs Port 8. Round 15, 2020 vs Sydney 9. Round 22, 2019 vs Sydney - a stench of death classic 10. Round 4, 2017 vs Freo - the day Cam McCarthy gave us the full Kingsley

  11. Back on the Benny Gibson theme of this thread, one thing I certainly see comming through his interviews is that he seems to have both a genuine rapport with the players like he's part of the group, but also comes across as a passionate supporter, a professional reporter and seems to have the genuine respect of the players in all of these capacities, which I think is no mean feat. If he is actually a through and through MFC supporter, gee he's kind of living the dream of most of us here. Well done Benny, keep up the good work.

  12. I support our schedule fatigue and the day preparations of travelling from Maroochydore that morning would not help for the best output and are likely the reason our intensity and run was off. However you control the things you can like the players selected and the make up of the team. We clearly went in too tall and lacked run. We continued to persevere with players in Jones and Melksham who are clearly out of form and or had the game pass them by. We could have brought in some youthful energy or a player who might throw his all at a chance like Bedford, Baker or even C Wagner. Sometime you need to manufacture the energy. These were all choices for the coach coming into this game. We then fell for the oldest one in the book and did not know how to use a wind or defend a wind. That wasn’t lack of energy particulartly in the first half it was lack of the right type of play. Again mostly in the coaches control. I will give some credit to Goodwin in the second half that at least he threw the magnets about a bit to generate something. However this was more a game lost by the coach than things out of his control. I am hoping finally Goodwin takes the loss and the shortbreak as an opportunity to right some things, but it doesn’t seem to be his way. Our backline should be May, Lever, Tomlinson with running backs. Bring run and difference into our midfield with Baker at minimum on a wing and Melksham or Wagner or Bennell instead of Viney into the mix. Two tall forwards with proper smalls (Pickett and Bedford) that pressure inc Viney as a high half forward. We can only afford one of Fritsch, Melksham and Hannan and I would go Fritsch on notice. I think we can learn a lot from the Freo game and if we win then the Giants game becomes a final without officially being one. Let’s se what we learn but I don’t hold much hope.

  13. They smelt blood and knew this was exactly the kind of game we drop. They prepared for that situation and as usual we let the door hit us on the dong on the way in, and on the *rse on the way out. Not to mention every club, every club's players and coaches, every club's supporters, all knew this game was set up perfectly for a classic MFC fall-on-your-face effort. Except the MFC players and coaches.

  14. I'm not saying this is the sole factor, but a common denominator in three very winnable losses we have had this season is the inability to handle windy conditions. Not sure if it's skill execution, game style a failure to adapt or a combination of all three, but three games we lost that I think we could otherwise have won include: 1. Brisbane Lions (Metricon); 2. Western Bulldogs (Metricon); 3. Sydney; In all of these games our ability to hit targets by foot has been terrible, leading to horrendous turnovers and an inability to move the ball efficiently and numerous very gettable goals missed. I know in theses game we were also badly beaten around the ball and that's a different issue, but I really do think we need to address our ability to play in windy conditions as well. It should be under 12s stuff, but apparently not.

  15. I’ve spent many a match at the G telling my family and friends that ‘one day’ Pettacca will break games open and with consistency. Oh to have been there this year to see it in person.

  16. If there was competition for his spot, I would agree. A lack of intensity and a low-possession game aren't really going to impact us that much. But it's not like those in the 22 are doing much better than this. I mean, are we really saying Melksham's 8 disposal, 0 tackle, no score game is more impactful than what Bennell might produce? Or Fritsch's 13 disposal, 2 tackle, 0.1 game? Spargo's 9 disposal, 2 tackle, 1 goal game?

  21. Ok -Thanks for the opportunity to be the roughy tipster. In search for value I went to Kilmore .Race 8 Number 2-Drain The Swamp. Showing 26-1 fixed TAB. In the same race I like a boxed Trifecta 1,2,3,13. A quick scan of the Metro meetings didn't really show much value. I'll try to pick something over 15-1 each week. I look froward to the team multi . Go you good things!!!

  23. Is 'Nature Strip' over the line in the Concorde Stakes? (Race 4 Randwick) The odds would suggest so but the horse is not always at its best first up. I've taken out a F4 in the race and I give Dirty Work & Gytrash a show in the race. And the Chelmsford Stakes (Race 7) is an open race ... Paul Joice has picked 'Angel of Truth' to win (5-1) so that might do me. At its best Avilius would win this but can it find its best form? Life Less Ordinary at 20-1 provides some real value in the race. Spec pick?

  31. One year base deal with game incentives. Otherwise delist. Realistically in a shortened year with shortened games and limited view of a draft which was already highly compromised due to high NGA’s I dont think you can cut harder that 7-8 players that are unknowns. There will be players that get contracts that are not first 18 but that is fine as long as the length and the salary is commensurate with the role.

  32. I get that, but there are losses where you just aren't good enough, like the doggies game or the Brisbane game, and then there is whatever that was on Thursday. An incredibly flat performance 4 games out from finals with our destiny in our own hands. And it's a recurring theme throughout the years, so it's no wonder people ask the question.

  34. Yeah no problem with that at all, cast your net into the sea! You can go to HK or anywhere else also if you spot something. Macca often posts some international meetings and we were all over Ascot earlier this year. We also have been following Night of Thunder horses, since its now the leading sire in Europe and its progeny do very well and often win at good odds. They are starting to get to Australia and hence my selection in River Night. Cherry Tortoni is one good example. We post them up here from time to time.

  38. Never been a fan of Oscar and I've let my feelings been known over the course. Also not a fan of bumping every thread to continually rag on a single player wherever possible. What's the purpose? Seriously? What do people hope to gain?

  39. A club with a history of being mentally weak is rubbish imo. If we had the same players, coaches and administrators over the last 56 years I’d believe it but we continually make changes to all in order to try improve. Unfortunately with us however it’s one step forwards one step backwards at present. I don’t believe players like Trac, Olly, Viney, May, Lever, Gawn are mentally weak at all. They all have there flaws which get exposed at times but good teams can cover a star player underperforming on week. I’m 36 and followed the dees closely my whole life and In my opinion, there is not once I’ve ever looked at a dees team and thought “Wow, this team looks amazing and will clearly be top 4 this year.” We’ve never had a super team like Brisbane, Hawthorn, Geelong or Essendon did in there little eras over the last 25 years and the only way we’d get a flag would be to fluke it like the doggies but we blew that chance in 2018. We do need to get our foundations sorted more than anything. An elite base where players would want to train and improve there development. Furthermore, somewhere free agents find attractive. Our talent (and coaching at times) has always been the issue for mine, not this mentallly weak rubbish.

  40. Yeah i try not to post too much on 'Jim' to be honest Redleg, because i know him well through my younger brother who is one of his good mates and also through Yarrawonga Football Club and local cricket. I've personally detached myself from a lot of chatter regarding Jordon because of the bias connection. What I do know is that the club is wrapped with his development. He was a bit of an unknown raw kid who's talent was noticed more through school footy where he dominated with his hardness and ability to break the lines and use the footy. His professionalism and attention to detail is why he is one of the most coachable kids on our list At this minute I must admit I am still scratching my head on why the club has a fascination in trying to turn him into an inside mid. In my opinion he plays his best football on a wing or half back. He spreads and gets out onto space well and that's where his strengths are best utilised with his ability to drill low flat 40m passes onto the leading forward. Instead we are trying to turn him into an inside beast on top of Brayshaw, Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Sparrow and Harmes. Tell me who he gets a game in front of those guys? Sparrow perhaps, but he's more physically developed and suited to his natural inside role. We are a team screaming for outside pace and kicking skills, and yet we have someone who has the potential to play that role perfectly on a wing or half back, and instead we programming him to be an inside mid... its just mind boggling. Look I haven't spoken to anyone recently from Yarra regarding Jordon's progress for a while. But my understand is that he's developing really well and if it wasn't for him injuring his hand, i think we would have seen him debut when Sparrow hurt his shoulder.
