  3. Interesting rule. Possible strategy. You could draft an older brother as a late draft pick to get a younger talented sibling.

  5. The point l am making is that this tread is totally unbalanced. Perhaps count the number of posts that talk about the main victims? None or very few at best. l will reserve most of my sympathy for them. To have an avo out means the issue has been ongoing

  8. Having been fortunate enough to start going to Demon games in 1962 I had 3 great years to start off so I’m prejudiced to those early days My 5 are Tassie Johnson ,Hassa Mann, Stan Alves, Robert Flower,David Neitz RDB misses out for going to Carlton and breaking my heart as a Ten year old Gary Hardeman just missed out great player even nicer guy So many from Jimmy and Sean White to Big Max I’d like to mention

  9. Sacked!... removed from the force is the only way for this breach of trust... to show other coppers that they need to show respect at all times. To everyone. Otherwise the police become the same as the churches... one rule for them, and other rules for the rest of us all. Not to mention, deaths in custody. There is another can of worms for coppers the world over.

  10. Very sad for Laidley and his family. A good footballer and coach. Many ex footballers fall short on the moral rectitude stakes. Pretty much a reflection on the vicissitudes of humankind. He should receive some sympathy and compassion. Again highlights the importance of good mental health and the struggle that we all experience in maintaining the appropriate balance in our life. We all need to be able to repress some of our thoughts and behaviours. It is just another example of the dangers of social media and the communication of material of a personal nature.

  11. Fox Footy has published the photos. It's a sad state of affairs when fan footy forums have higher standards of integrity that media outlets.

  12. Do you want to win the premiership? what a silly question. This year and next year . Asterisk or not . i want to walk around with a grin on my face because the Demons won the flag. simple. its taken far too long! I will be dead soon. Some friends have kicked the bucket recently and have not seen a flag since1964. Bar a couple of attempts. once you are over 65 a couple of decades and you can easily die. sorry it’s cold and wet and MFCSS kicked in. I will feel better after a good Shiraz

  14. Social media is social poison. Twitter is an outrage machine and facebook has been shown to cause depression. Not in a few instances. People who use facebook feel worse afterwards. It's because the people in charge want to dodge their responsibility to society at every turn. "All power and no responsibility" was made to describe them.

  15. Yes in 1980 the Dees thought they’d got Barassi as coach and Leigh Matthews as new skipper. The Dees were ready to a full in assault to get back to the glory days. Matthews was ready to sign but Hawks matched the $$$s and appointed him skipper. Probably deserved it.

  17. As much as I'd love for it to happen due to us stinking it up in round 1, on what grounds should round 1 results be cancelled? They were official games as far as I'm concerned.

  18. Hi DJ. Yeah, fair point. I just thought that those three weeks might create just enough wriggle room for the border situation over there to end and avoid any hubs.

  19. they were talking about that on the 3aw sports show a few days ago. No certainty that they will annul round 1 but unless they stuff up the fixture my thought is that the results will stand The decision maker will be the TV people. If they will pay more for 17 rounds that 16 guess what ???

  20. Yes it is; the trust of fellow police officers, of VicPol, and of our whole community. Its utter gutter snipe stuff. And that officer has no business belonging with the police. He has to be sacked. But he will resign, before the charges are tested in court, no doubt. What the public needs, is for the charges to be tested, and for the actions seen to be delivered... to restore faith in our whole legal system. .

  21. Nathan was no slouch , he was a terrific player played in ordinary sides and gave his all. He held his own against the best. Hard nut and most of all loyal. Could easily had left for glory.

  22. Ok, so you want us to talk about the AVO victim/s? To discuss what's happened to them? On an anonymous football forum? Just to balence the thread up? I think you are confusing most poster's respect for the victim's privacy as to mean we do not care. For us to not know the name of the victim, the circumstances surrounding the AVO or it's breach is a good thing, and more than likely what they want. Not one person on here has said they do not have sympathy for the AVO victim. Of course we do.

  23. I fear this one could be a very lop-sided quarter final in favour of Stynes who is an MFC legend. The Neitz V Schwarz QF on the other hand....

  25. Good as Jones has been for us, he's a long way short of the AFL's best midfielders. Has never been All-Australian.

  26. No one is denying that. There are two important stories here. One, that he is accused of the things you mention, and second that Laidley's privacy was illegally breached by police officers (two have now been suspended). A third story is of a life spiralling out of control apparently from drugs/mental health issues. There are only losers in this whole situation. I would've thought it good for the victim's sake that little has been leaked about the charges Laidley is likely to face. We have information about the photos and text messages of the privacy breach, so that is why it is the dominant discussion here at the moment. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/05/clicks-and-dollars-trump-ethics-for-media-that-published-leaked-photos-of-dean-laidley

  27. Let's not forget he is accused of stalking and breaking an avo (so forgetting his dress sense which while unusual isn't the first person to do so) there are other more significant victims

  28. NOT if they do not work and live by their own law standards they don't, 'W4tA'. If they see a crime amongst their own, they should report it, but they do not. Why have those coppers, who received the photo's, reported it to their authorities, 'W4tA'. Why didn't they act responsibly.?This has only happened because it got into the media, and the Police leadership became aware of it through lawyers and ordinary people.

  31. Very optimistic of you rjay......& I agree a flag may change things, however, that's more that a couple of years away, let's be honest. (I'm happy to be proven wrong though) ? Stynes will also have the number 1 tag stitched up for a long time IMO & can't see any of the new crop challenging Jimmy unless Oliver wins another couple of Bluey's.

  32. Impossible to vote against either. It gets harder tomorrow - Schwarz v Neitz. Messing with my mind.

  33. This is a mighty 11 year bump! In no particular order... 1. Stynes 2. Neitz 3. Farmer 4. Gawn 5. Lyon * Schwartz could have been ** Jurrah should have been *** Jakovich almost was **** Oliver definitely will be

  34. Flower, Lyon, Schwarz, Neitz, RdBarassi... of course. Jedda Healey would have made a good backup #3, but sadly, I see him more as a Swan than a Dee, these days.

  35. Loved Flower, then Jedda Healy, Schwarz, Jakovich and Lyon. Stynes, Neita, Wight and Gawn would be next. Had a soft spot for Danny Hughes, Todd Viney and really liked Warren Dean in 1987.

  36. No winners here. A sad affair and a terrible outcome for Dean. Ricky Nixon proves himself to be an obnoxious, glory hunting, narcissistic [censored]. The police officer involved who thought breaching privacy was a good idea. The gutter press that posted pics gained through this obvious breach of privacy. Appropriate process should be followed. Public interest stopped at ‘he was arrested and not bailed’. Everything after that is salacious trash that serves no one.

  37. I've watched the last two minutes of this game many times. It always amazes me that, even up until the moment the ball touches Cross's foot, Der-wayne is still yelling that Dawes is the only option. Stubbornly ignorant man.

  42. Great year 1964. The closing match at the mud heap (Glenferrie Oval) probably was the first time I heard a crowd chanting Melbourne Melbourne etc. Exciting win. MCC were great in letting us in early to put banners up and we made the old girl "Greysmith Stand" look good. After making the Granny we were at the Prelim and at three quarter time we went and queued up outside "T-Section" and stayed there all week to get the seats behind the goal. Parents kept coming in with food etc and snuck home during the day for showers. Black & white filth were more than us and we got pushed to the side but still a formidable support for the Dees. The rest was history and after the match, having been there all week, wasn't sure what to do but the Club turned on food and drink outside the change rooms and never got home until Sunday. Sure we were young then and not quite sure how I would handle a flag these days. I'd give it bash though. I have, like most, been really patient waiting for the next.

  43. Garry scored more goals, more all aussies, hall of fame and team of the century. He was a dynamic and courageous leader who could be potent in several positions. Brad was a champion, durable and dynamic at times but never rose to the levels of Garry. Lyon for me.

  44. Somehow it seems unfair that Greeny is pitted against Gary Lyon who was one of our greats as Gary could have been even greater if he didn't carry a debilitating back. This cost him his best football in his twilight. However Brad Green was no slouch as a player as he was classy enough. Could play up the ground but was more effective near the goals. Unfortunately captaining a hack side didn't help his reputation. Kicked 55 goals in 2010 and was stiff not to make all Australian. Gary for mine.

  45. If you mean one season as "in their prime" Then the list is very different from a regular "best players" list... 1: Alan Jackovich - his first 100 goals, he was arguably the most exciting forward going round. And the only time we had a player that could go with the Dunstalls, Abletts, and Pluggers. 2: Jeff farmer - circa 2000, sent shivers through the rest of the league, and got us to our only GF in my lifetime. 3: David Neitz - In his coleman year he was either the best, or second best FF going around. He's the chief reason I fell in love with footy again after a number of years off. 4: David Schwartz - If he had actually put together a whole season early on during his bad knee years he would have delivered, if only for 22 rounds, on his massive promise. As it is he was still an awesome force. 5: G. Lyon - You may not like him, but he was a gun player in anyones' book. My parents and many older fans say of him "he was always a champion." And I'm certain no-one else in my time following MFC rates like that. Apologies to Jim Stynes who was more of an accumulator... Yze and Johnston who were AA quality one year and very flashy but not top 5 material... Davey, who I think hasn't yet had his best season. Give it another 13 rounds.
