  1. Goodwin: We’re certainly not overhauling our game - I find this actually alarming and it actually explains this year to a tee.

  2. This concerns me... Is he stubborn, delusional or maybe not willing to disclose what we are really doing. I hope it's the latter because tinkering is not going to fix this years problems.

  3. A first round pick and Petracca for Brown. Wow. Brown is a FA next season, why would you give up next seasons first round pick (or this years for that matter) plus Petracca for him? Ludicrous.

  4. He'll play his role. As he did last week. He stays until may comes back as neither lever or hore can play on the big forwards and lever, and to a lesser extent hore, are poor one on one.

  5. How many times are you going to start a thread about/post the same thing? Couldn't this have gone in your 'Key forwards, let's go shopping' thread where you posted constantly about Brown? Or even your 'Should we trade our early pick' thread where you also posted about Brown? At least your 'Hinkley is coach of the year' and 'Trade Petracca for Patton' threads have died the death they deserved.

  6. Context. Trading him to get Brown would be sheer madness is what I meant. That's what this thread has been discussing. Only Oliver and Gawn are absolutely untradable. We are better with a fit Trac in the side. Brown at the Dees would struggle more than Tmac or Weid have this year. A predominantly lead up forward in a team that only knows how to long bomb. Recipe for disaster.

  7. Not disagreeing about having a reboot of the game plan, but why do you think our player's reluctance to shoot at goal is related to the game plan? Seems to me it speaks more of a dramatic loss of confidence. Are you saying that is a result of the game plan? While it could be a factor, I doubt it explains it all.

  8. Putting a few of his comments together can be interesting... (Paraphrasing of course) 'When you've won 5 games for the year you don't overhaul your game, you tinker with it....' ?

  10. I can hear the howling already, but Oscar wasn’t that bad last year and in those first 2 finals. I wonder if there is a reason we don’t know about, why he has been so poor this year. I would still like to see him put on 6-8 kgs of muscle over summer and maybe have a go up forward before we give up on him. I recall many had Frost delisted last year and he has improved quite a bit this year. In a settled back 6, which we haven’t had all year, he would be even better.

  11. We’re rated as 16th for talent under 23, no way we give up pick 2 in a trade to get Hill. We need to retain 2 to have the best chance at getting Anderson. Hill’s worth an early second rounder.

  12. Continually hear people talking about Petracca's upcoming 'breakout game' which never seems to eventuate, and I feel like that impacts their opinions of him. He's quietly putting together a very good season and has steadily, albeit not linearly, improved over his career. Consider this for 2019: Averaging 18.2 disposals, 2.6 tackles, 2.1 clearances, 4 marks and 1.2 goals. (Importantly for us, handballs more than he kicks also) Ranked 11th in the league for total tackles inside 50, despite playing some midfield time. Currently rated 5th in the league for forwards, ahead of players like Stringer, Charlie Cameron and McDonald-Tipungwuti. And last time I heard the stat reported this year, he was the lading player in the league for winning ground balls inside 50. For a team with such a disconnect going forward, he has shown enough effort and talent on a consistent basis to be given a bit of credit from Dees fans. We can all be a bit hesitant to give any praise during a horror year like this, but I feel he deserves at least a modicum of encouragement for improving against the odds.

  13. I stated that McDonald's 2018, his first season full time as a forward, was at least as good as any season that Ben Brown has had, and therefore there is a case to persevere with McDonald despite his disasterous 2019. I supported that statement with the available, quite conclusive, data, which is also backed by a truckload of 2018 general opinion and commentary as to McDonald's qualities, most particularly his fitness, professionalism and workrate. I don't feel a need to be dragged into your pattern of near-random bipolar fixations on players.

  14. That one on half time was a cracker. Leaning back into Frawley and gets a free for holding. Umpires explanation: Prevented him from running at the ball. He was leaning back into Frawley, not trying to run. He's a free kick machine Brown. I'd love him at the Dees, if only to see if he still gets paid all those frees.

  15. Is Ben Brown the leagues premier diver? That’s two for the game so far, the best one was against Sicily, 7.8/10.

  18. Matsuo Basho: "Lever will be a welcome return to the side (let’s hope his knee stands up after a SECOND reco)" Source Matsuo Basho: "Lever a star but has now had two knee recos." Source Matsuo Basho: "Job security the major sticking point in that scenario. Go down with a buckled knee, huge disaster for him." Source Matsuo Basho: "At the end of the day you’re a professional footballer at the elite level for ten years, with the ever present possibility of going down with a buckled knee every time you run out onto the park." Source Matsuo Basho: "Gawn is also a worry with his knee issues." Source You don't seem super consistent on knees old mate.

  19. Same for Lever being rushed back after low vfl minutes, and Smith being forced to play out a pointless preseason game when injured and being written off for the year. The club’s player management this season has been appalling and the worst I can remember from an afl club.

  20. Would you consider our 2020 first round pick + Petracca for Brown? Back ourselves to get back in the 8 in 2020 thereby making that first rounder more in the 11 - 18 range. That would be a fair deal I reckon. Allows us to keep pick 2. I agree with you on Petracca. I think we should trade now while his cachet is still pretty decent.

  21. I prefer Anderson to Rowell (both should be guns at senior AFL level) and when I break it down, I can’t see how Rowell is that far ahead of Anderson in general rankings. Wouldn’t be surprised if the order of those two flipped closer to draft day. If GC gets the extra pick at the top of the draft, I guess it’s irrelevant for everyone else. Love the way Ash plays. I think Young’s kicking would be just that bit more valuable to the Dees, but purely from an enjoyment point of view could watch Ash’s dash all day long.

  22. I simply think you just can't go past Anderson if GC dont receive a PP. At 189cm he is the perfect prototype of a genuine utility where i see him starting forward and making a sudden impact but also pushing into the midfield later and being a genuine star of the comp. Next in line I do like Ash, Serong, Flanders and even Young also. I have watched some games of Ash live and he just adds genuine speed and line breaking ability off half back. Interesting the query with Ash was his ability to play midfield and last week he played as an on baller and amassed 26 disposals 4 marks and 7 tackles. So i thought that was a really good insight into his potential for the future.

  23. That would be so typical of our year. We have pick 2, but lose it to GC for a priority pick that had virtually been discontinued by the AFL over the last few years. We should be lobbying against it. When we really needed a pp, we were denied one in a couple of our really bad years, most likely because of the tanking fiasco. I recall several in the media, led by Caro, arguing against a badly needed pp for us because of the tanking fiasco. Also we are ranked 16th in Under 23 talent on lists while GC are ranked 7th. Who needs young talent more, then or us? They need a couple of experienced players and some help with their FD and salary cap. What’s next for us in this great season?

  24. I’m with Dazzle on Petty. He is our current best chance of a 3rd key forward and is still very young and raw. Imagine another 20 games and 5-6 kgs of muscle, with another pre season and you will have a good footballer. He can take a big grab and needs to improve his set shots and he will be ok for us.

  25. Hey Jay, good to have you around again. I just finished listening to it and to be quite honest I found it to be a load of rubbish. When they went through the out of contract list they said they would give 2 year contracts to Alex Neal Bullen, Tim Smith and even Josh Wagner but yet would trade Sam Frost or sign him on a 1 year deal as depth player. Bunch of amatures who completely have no idea about our list. Then to finish it off they said that Ross Lyon would be the perfect coach for us? ?

  27. Give me a spell. Agree if may was fit he would have gone out (and said as much in my post) but you can't pin Bruce's goals on omac. One maybe but he got lace out delivery for at least one goal (after a woeful turnover), omac was not on him all game and at least one was a result of lever not spoiling and if iirc another was from a throw in when Smith was clueless and Bruce grabbed it from the air and snapped the easiest of goals. If he was as poor as you think dazzler he would not have been picked this week. They had hore they could bring in and petty (who by the way is no forward) who could go back. But they have stuck with omac. Obviously you and many others disagree with goody but without trying to be disingenuous or dismissive he is an AFL coach, would have analysed his performance so is better placed than us to objectively assess omac's performance last week. And has picked him to go up against lynch or reiwoldt (i suspect lynch). Believe it or not not every thing is OMac's fault.

  28. Other than speed and unpredictability Frost also competes with his direct opponent. There are many, many examples of his second and third efforts and scrounging ground balls to advantage, Compared to Oscars insipid contests give me Frosty everytime. Show him the money Please.

  29. He is a weird unit Smith, but it works and he does fight, absolutely great dig. Credit to Siddle and Lyon as well who hung around to ensure we didn't get run over for 130-140. If the ball moves around a bit like it did for the poms, I reckon there batting is just as brittle. Both sides have good bowling attacks, but a bit soft in batting. As the late Mike Williamson said "It's not over yet"!! BTW I am knackered this morning after staying up!! Could make for long days at work this ashes!

  30. It's like clockwork the way it happens. Need to post more when the poms are batting! Anyway, it's down to Smith now you'd imagine. Needs support of course but he's the one who can make a big score.

  33. Rated 5th in the whole league for forwards stats tells me me he has been pretty consistent, and there is about 30 guys on the list he has performed better than this year. Pulling his weight as far as I am concerned which is something you can’t say for a lot of our players. Arguing about Petracca is the least of our problems.

  34. He worked on his game to be able to run fast and then kick short. He may not always hit targets but its obvious he listens to what he needs to do. I am glad so many are wanting him to stay.

  38. Well with the footy season well and truly shagged some of us need to turn our focus to other sports we’re passionate about and as far as cricket goes, there’s nothing bigger than the Ashes. First test is already off to a rocky start with Warner out LBW! Didn’t even challenge and ball tracking showed he would’ve survived but to be fair he was looking as lost as an MFC player kicking for goal. Anyway, let’s hope we can stick one up these smelly poms and raise the Urn in victory!!

  41. Anderson out with a calf injury by the looks of it (gone for a scan) And there was talk of England playing an extra quick with Jofra Archer and they could certainly do with the extra bowler now. A matter of keeping them out there now whilst perhaps targeting Moeen Ali and/or Ben Stokes. At 3 - 98 the game is interestingly poised. We need one of these 2 (Smith or Head) to make a big hundred. If that happens we're right in this Steve. *Mozz factor deactivated (these in-match posts often bring about almost immediate change in the game circumstances)

  44. G’day mate, I am very well, hope you are too. Both WA teams would make a lot of sense as far as Jackson goes, will be interesting to see what maneouvres will be made to secure him. Probably the best rounded ruck prospect to come through since Grundy. Was a big fan of what Kemp did in the Champs, particularly the last couple of games. His midfield game flashed a bit of Paddy Cripps, and his impact in the forward line pushed him up. He’s a true utility, i’m not sure where (or whether) he settles down in one area of the ground. The only qualifier when trying to project how that translates into senior footy is that this crop overall is short on quality tall players (across the ground). Kemp had a bit of a size advantage in all areas of the ground, and he used it well. He won’t have the same advantage at senior level. He can’t do much about the size of his immediate competition at this level, although that qualifier works both ways. If I was picking between him and a comparable player (eg Sam Flanders), I’m picking Kemp because he has that size. His talent should translate, but would have been great to see a bit more of him post champs. Given the balance of our list is currently skewed toward bigger bodied mids, I’d choose a few others ahead of him, but he’d be a great fit for almost every other club. Have you seen much of Elijah Taylor?

  45. In my opinion May is a leader without having a title of a VC it just doesn't sound right in my eyes, it is the way l see it. Being suspended and missing many games doesn't give him that right in his first year and regardless of his experience he has to earn it. Gawn is a person that l would feel comfortable as Captain as he leads from the front on and off the field. VC's come and go and are not all necessarily Captain material. l would like to see a Gawn, Oliver combination in the near future leading our club and that could be part of a new start and a refreshing one for 2020. Who knows what is awaiting us.
