Freo have cold feet. it's not no, but it's far from yes. I know why, but I like my house and don't want to lose it for slander.14 points

I bet they didn't expect this: "...the AFL moved this week to advise Carlton that the cost of the charter flight to fly Dylan Shiel to Noosa had to be included in the soft cap or football department spend...even if it was a donation". https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/gaff-to-stay-at-west-coast-after-turning-down-north-offer-20181007-p5088y.html Ha!Ha! Small pennies but it is good to see the AFL take some action.13 points

I believe Jesse is heading down to Bells for a surf, then later tonight he’ll crack a beer, have a cone followed by a mud cake and then decide where he wants to be.11 points

Mahoney just said our preference is for Aaron to stay and they talked over the weekend and that Aaron is torn between the club and his family. Really hope he stays.11 points

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-08/trade-wrap-hogan-inching-towards-dockers-deal Summary of the points re Hogan: Dockers cooling partly because of Lobb's arrival and partly the Demons are demanding two early first-round picks. the spearhead's recovery from a navicular injury among the pressing issues it has to address. There is still a chance Hogan could remain at Melbourne, but it appears far more likely he will be in the Dockers' purple and white next season. Hogan is unlikely to officially request a trade to Fremantle in the next day or so, but it's understood progress is being made behind the scenes that is inching him closer to that point. But, as they consider such a blockbuster trade, the Dockers won't be rushed. My read is he will be a Docker next year but we wait a few days to hear an official trade request. As an aside, in case anyone missed it @Mach5reported in the AVB thread that we may trade him and 2nd/3rd round picks to Sydney for pick 12. Could come in very handy in a trade to GCS so we can break the nexus between the Hogan and May deal.10 points

Posted earlier in this thread: I think the AFL gave Geelong permission last year. They just want to protect against basket cases and desperate regimes selling their future down the river. But if the club looks in good shape I think they'll allow it. Here's a possible link I found but it's behind the paywall https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/geelong-can-again-trade-its-firstround-draft-pick-in-2018/news-story/82989f88db7d2425be27dae06077fab78 points

I don’t think financially we can’t afford May without losing Hogan, it’s more that we have no trade currency, which we don’t.8 points

Well, if I am picking up what @Chook in Perth is putting down, then my questions around why the club is so ready to move on from Hogan have been answered...7 points

That’s how I’m reading it. You don’t offer a guy huge dollars, have a 4 hour tour and then lose interest. Especially if you’ve chased that guy for years7 points

Until the Lachie Neale deal is done I don't expect we'll hear any news regarding Jesse Hogan.7 points

Jesse will tell the club today but the club might want another 10 or so pages before they tell us.7 points

Gotta agree with Bruce Lee here. I don't know if Hogan is going or staying, don't know his state of mind, don't know how strong Freo's interest is, or anything much really... But Freo's tactics are like any bloke who's ever bought a second hand car. Tyres are a bit bald .... cams sound worn ... is that windscreen roadworthy? Yeah nah mate ... dunno ... if you come down a couple of grand I might bite ... They just want us to give a sign that we'll accept a lowball offer. It's up to us to say, well make up your mind quickly, mate. I've got another bloke coming at 12 and he sounds keen. Main difference is that in this case, the car gets to say if it wants to be sold.6 points

My read in the situation is that there won't be a decision from Jesse until there is a deal done (in the background). There is no way we'd want a situation where he decides to go and a deal can't be done, or we get screwed down after his preference becomes public and there's no going back. So what's happening then: - Jesse happy to go - Freo waiting for some reason, good situation is just until Neale deal finalised and confirm the picks they'll give us. Bad situation is they've taken a step back due to posturing, or worse preference for Lobb, or catastrophically Jesse's foot - Melbourne powerless to do anything until Freo sorts out it's shyte We'll be waiting for a few days yet I reckon...6 points

Buckle in for a long turbulent ride through the trade period. Marcus Adams nominating Brisbane complicates matters for us because it will impact the Neale trade and make Collingwood more keen on May. The Hogan and Neale deals are linked, however much we might want them to be separate. The KK deal will probably be linked to the May deal too. Lobb apparently nominating Freo only complicates things further. Gaff not going to Norf probably means they are less desperate to move Preuss on for salary cap relief. I expect we'll be stalemated on the Hogan, May, KK and Preuss deals until other clubs resolve their deals. The only things we might hear progress on are the ones we don't want to hear like VDB and Kent. Strap in for plenty of poster pre-trade hysteria.6 points

Suns still seem keen to get him http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-08/trade-wrap-hogan-inching-towards-dockers-deal I hope Dom gets a trade he is happy with. He really got his act together after playing for Casey and it was almost miraculous and courageous how he played barely a week after surgery to his fractured arm.5 points

No they haven’t. They were always going to throw his ‘dicky foot’ up as a tactic to push price down. Someone at Freo is feeding Tom Browne bulltish the way Old McDonald spreads feed for chooks. ‘Touring the facilities’, saying Lobb is more of a priority ... all ploys to get Melbourne to cave on a the two first rounders demand. All these tactics are in fact a measure of their keenness. It’s off the charts. Sit tight Dees we will extract our price. Patience, patience catches the prey.5 points

Why not. We simply tell them what will get the deal done. It's called naming your price.5 points

Hopefully this thread not only includes rumours but long bows as well, because here is one.... Max Gawn just followed Jonathan Ceglar on Instagram. Is possibly seen as third in line at Hawthorn, given they have McEvoy and Pittonet. Is contracted to end of 2019, perhaps with North playing hardball with Preuss, we may be looking at Ceglar.5 points

You've missed this: He's going He's staying He wants out of MFC He loves the MFC MFC are trying to shove him out MFC are desperate for him to stay Freo want him Freo don't want him WCE want him WCE don't want him The media have no clue The media get the hot tips I think that about covers it.4 points

Well the answer is, " how has that statement damaged someone's reputation"? I would think pushing it uphill to get to first base.4 points

If the next Silvagni son is on a par with the current one he’d be worth roughly pick 88 in the rookie draft. Absolute spud Jack Silvagni.4 points

Was ok with Jesse staying or leaving, but the longer this drags out I find myself getting a bit irritable that he’s putting his fans through it (again)... that said don’t know the full story, so prepare to park it till I hear more.4 points

Very clever footwork if you ask me! Is it my imagination or are the media talking down the trade value of our players out (Kent #72, Hogan one 1st round) all the while talking up the value of other player trades eg Tim Kelly top 10 pick. Lobbe a high 1st round pick etc etc.4 points

No. It couldn’t. Because Jesse is contracted and much more talented than lobb. Freo have leaked that to try and panic us into accepting less rather than miss out on May.4 points
-
We spent the weekend trying to convince the uncontracted vandenBerg to stay. We haven't been trying to talk the contracted Hogan into staying. The difference is palpable. We want May and are happy to say goodbye to Hogan.4 points

Josh Mahoney said we badgered them for a long period of time but even still, why express an interest if we couldn’t afford him anyway?4 points
-
Tom Browne reporting freos priority is lobb not hogan. I personally think this is garbage they’ve been chasing Jesse for years and just did a four hour facility tour with him where they no doubt discussed his gaff sized offer. Id suggest someone from freo has leaked this to him to try and panic Melbourne into lowering the asking price rather than missing out on May. Sadly for freo the only person who hasn’t seen through it is Tom.4 points

It's been a few pages since someone has asserted Jesse is an RFA at the end of 2019 That's progress I guess4 points
