  1. I'm currently in a remote area of NSW, and 20 kms from the nearest internet coverage. Yesterday I drove the 40 kms (round trip) to enjoy the post-match frenzy on Demonland, only to get caught up in the damn Telstra outages. Another 40 kms this morning, and I finally get to 'feel' the excitement of fellow Demonlanders. The iPad is now down from 100% to 15% .......... that's how much I enjoyed it. Well done guys and gals! Go Dees!

  3. Plus: 3. Must keep Viney healthy 4. 5 teams can win the flag - Melbourne is one of them 5. Outstanding coaching and confidence in trying new things. Expect something different pre-finals, if make it 6. Jake Melksham just needs nothing to think about and let him play on auto pilot 7. No. 1 pressure acts and contested possession team. No easy games for opposition 8. Oliver operating at another/higher level from last year

  4. He is a driven, Melbourne player; tough as nails, works hard and is a solid improver. Terrific in a utility role and does not shirk the responsibilities of maiming opponents.

  5. How good was this goal assist? Not just the tap but the smother up the field and then his run down the field to get into open space. Honourable mention to the pick up by Nibbler who handballed to Spargo who shimmied and kicked to Petracca in space. Great team play.

  6. Champion data is getting a bit creepy. I'm not sure how they've obtained a data set on a player's neurological mind-state. Unless Saty is somehow involved.

  7. Damn, snowflakes have taken over this thread. Must be tough going through life spending so much energy looking for offence. Garlett/Garrett. Easy to see what the joke was about if you care to look instead of rushing to be outraged.

  10. See OP. The whole play was magnificent. From the Trac smother to the Nibbler pickup and handball to Spargo's dance and kick to space to Tracs run down the field to get in space and have the vision and presence of mind to tap it to Melk to Melk's snap and goal. Anyone who thinks that's ho hum and run of the mill obviously hasn't seen the last decade that I've seen.

  11. I'm only suprised his start to the year was so mediocre, but then he wasn't alone there either. I think the asertion of improved confidence leading to improved performance could equally apply to the team as a whole. Again something which I think has been generally universally applicable to both Harmes and the team is that whilst the confidence and form wasn't there early on, the work rate was and eventually that will translate into performance. On an individual level the other that has really got his mojo back in the last two games after weeks of toil is ANB. Noticed he was our only player wearing a black arm band on Sunday, which he acknowledged a few times after kicking goals and I wounder if there was some close family/friend that was doing it tough and providing an additional personal stress outside football that was inevitably impacting his onfeild performance. We expect our players to be super professional elite performers, but at the end of the day, they are venerable human beings just like the rest of us. ANB certainly seems like a high quality individual, full credit to him for the way he carries himself and condolences for the loss he has suffered.

  13. Some key messages from the Champion Data boys on SEN this morning for interest. 1. The last 4 rounds have yielded 4 wins and a % of 198% - the last time this occurred was rounds 10 to 13 - 1964 2.Will finish top 4

  15. Fritsch will become a genuine A grade player before too long. I was skeptical of him moving up the ground because he is a great forward but at the moment he is the outside player we have been crying out for who can kick goals as well.

  18. I am surprised by how blase posters are getting about plays like this. There is a very large gulf between what is expected of an AFL team and the reality. Players train hard to get plays correct but it is the ability to execute under pressure that will show you how far you have progressed. I am under no illusion that we were executing skills over the last month against teams that were down the ladder and the litmus test will be how we execute against the better teams who exert much more pressure. However it is not too long ago that we could not hit the side of a barn with a 2 metre handball playing against the Manangatang 4ths.

  19. Sad thing is, even after his/her error was clearly pointed out, they still choose to ride their high horse. Living in central Australia, I have enormous sympathy for the barriers placed against Indigenous Australians and know the history very well. Here, it is not relevant.

  20. I think we have shown over the last few years that we know how to manage contract negotiations very well. If we were being managed like Carlton over the last decade, I'd be much more concerned. Which makes me think...if we were Carlton, what would happen? I suspect we would trade Tom McDonald to the Gold Coast for their first round draft pick which is on-traded to GWS for 6 GWS fringe players to be added to our list. And if we were Collingwood, we would be prepared to lose Tom McDonald in order to keep the dollars that he should earn in the pool just to make sure "favourite son" Weideman can be retained. If we were St Kilda, we would look at trading Tom McDonald for three players who between them each have one or more recurrent, career-threatening injuries, off-field behavioural problems and are already known to be homesick for WA. And if we were Fremantle, we'd be trading Tom McDonald to free up cash to pay secret payments to hush something up.

  21. I posted that with no attempt of any connotation to indigenous folk although I admit that I can see it now. The original joke was purely around the use of Garrett instead of Garlett. Apologies to those it’s offended.

  23. Bernie is playing in the top 22 at the moment. The following haven't ever and are out of contract at year end: Johnstone, McKenna, Keilty, Balic, with Filipovic and King The following are fringe and are out of contract at year end: JKH, Bugg, Kent, Pedersen, Vandenburg Some will be kept for development, but that is 11 players who are on the edge. If only 1/2 on that list go then the replacement draft pick is still somewhere north of 100. Is Bernie better than that? Pretty easy really.

  24. The world would be a damn sight better place if people would stop looking for the most pathetic reasons to act offended. Garlett/Garret. Zero legitimate reason to feel offended unless you went out of your way to be.

It wasn't until the final quarter on the weekend when it finally clicked: Max Gawn congratulates Charlie Spargo on his debut The Demons celebrate another win with recruit Oscar Baker Clayton Oliver releases a trade-mark hand-pass

  30. It's ridiculous, ET. Someone even suggested playing him because a family member designed the guernsey. If Garlett does play on the weekend then it's because he deserved a run, no other reason. If he doesn't play then clearly the FD are going for the win, not sentimentality.

  40. Tex Walker said on radio last year after Lever moved to the dees that “if you’re driven by money or you’re driven by success, that’s a decision you need to make” If I was the coach, I’d have our best 23 focussed on proving this week that our best is more successful than their best.

  44. And lets be clear on this. In the crowd Sunday the slight majority were Melbourne supporters considering it was Carlton's home game. This should not be lost on the AFL dolt's. Melbourne's attendance will only grow as the team continues successfully. Our issue with the home games is the quality of the opposition which will not attract huge crowds. I would prefer to see a fair FIXture which gives us home games (including Friday and Sat arvo games) against the larger teams than yearly handouts from the equalization fund.

  45. Love Harmesy and the bullish way he plays. A number of people on this forum predicted he would be one of our big movers this year and looks like that might be ocuring at the moment. Without being disrespectful, he is exactly the sort of second tier/lesser widely rated player we need to step up another notch for the team to push further up the ladder. So much harder for the opposition to keep all of Viney, Oliver, Jones, Brayshaw and Co. in check if a Harmes, ANB, Hannan, Melksham pops up and demands equal attention. Whilst Harmes may not be the most tallented player on our list, the talent is definitely there and what he might not have in natural skill and flare, he more than makes up for in endevor.

  46. Unless after 4 games he and the Medicos believe he needs a rest Spargo is doing more than enough to hold his place on pressure alone. Hannans game was highly frustrating with one handed takes, flying against talls when a crumb was needed and inconsistent pressure. If Jeffys effort is shown to be where it should be I think our forward line would function even better with Garlett for Hannan. I would not consider any other change.
