  1. I can understand how social media and the instant access that fans and critics have to celebrities and sports stars can have a negative impact on those people. The internet and anonymous (now not so anonymous with Facebook and Twitter) people bagging sports people is nothing new. People have been doing this on Fan sites for years. However with social media people now have direct access to the phones of these stars and they can be brutal and there aren't many jobs in the world where you receive instant and potential soul crushing feedback. I feel for Jake and others who have copped it directly. We've all been critical of sports people but I don't think I've ever contacted one directly to their device to tell them that I hope they die in a fire.

  2. Take a bow....champ..sorry chump. You dont make any of the rules of life any of us need to be concerned with. You are most welcome to live your Demon life however you wish and more power to you for following the Dees. But don't ever be so presumptive as to judge anyone else. Go Dees

  3. Direct personal attacks on Twitter are a quantum leap from posters being critical of performances on a forum like Demonland. Supporters have every right to be critical and call it as they see it. As soon as you get personal, you've overstepped the line. And if you are directly messaging athletes on Twitter, then you are messed up in the head.

  4. At the ground, nice night for footy, bit chilly. Will update the team list when I work out who is and isn’t playing

  5. 2nd best decision he has made in his career with the first coming to the Dees.

  6. Well done Jake. It's a huge problem in modern society. It's pretty sad to think there are people out there who get off on bringing people down behind the comforts of their keyboard. Even worse when it's supporters of their own team and I've no doubt there are plenty amongst us here on DLand. I said the same thing when Fasolo came out and discussed his depression which was partly due to social media. Be careful what and how you post , you have no idea how hurtful some of your comments can impact a person's life.

  8. Another nuff nuff who thinks if we all cheer harder, the team will win more games. Seems to be an epidemic on this forum lately.

  9. Wow. Have you painted your house red & blue? And your letterbox? I think you could be my Demon hero.

  10. It’s hard isn’t it, I travel 2hrs to get to most Melb games and also fly to PERTH games. I’ve wasted so many weekends I’m starting to feel sick about it. Love the club and obviously want it to succeed but wasting weekends because of it. Reason I’m annoyed at the moment is we’ve gone backwards in a big way and our skills are atrocious, I’m also very suspicious that there’s something not right within the four walls at the moment. Which I’m also sick of. Will go to bombers game but if we lose I’m taking some time off, especially if we dish up the same rubbish as the last 27 weeks. The headless chook game plan is just dumb and every supporter here can bloody see it, why so hard for coaches to fix.

  11. I'm curious, who else here has lost interest, in some form or one way or another? For me, I don't know if it's due to the hype and expectation to make finals or just related to other matters in my life. This for me is quite the contrary to those Bailey and Neeld years where I went to nearly every home game and as frustrating as it was, more so than now, I got my kicks from watching individual performances by Jurrah or the ever so reliable Jones. I apologise as I don't want to fuel the negativity, I'm still here and in it for the long haul, just curious else has felt interest waiver since half time of the Hawks game (after that brilliant first quarter). I just hope we get up and beat Essendon, I think all is fans need a very good win so we all feel back on track.

  14. I'm sick of hearing Goodwin claim we haven't been getting "reward for effort". It epitomizes the poor-me snowflake society we're in today. When the game plan is so ridiculously inefficient, of course the reward is so god-damn tough to come by. F*** instead of pulling out the "poor us" card, I wish he focused on figuring out how to improve efficiency in order to gain the reward/s. The writing is on the wall, two consecutive smashing whilst "the effort" has been there indicates something is very wrong with the game plan and/or disposal skills, which must both be worked on.

  15. Personally, it’s just not enjoyable at the moment. I found 2016 a lot more pleasant to watch except for the ending of that season. Like you said, maybe it’s the expectation and the fact we have stagnated. Last year there were too many emotions within the one game, apart from the Dogs game where we basically controlled the game for four quarters. For the first time in a long time, we are questioning whether we should turn up tomorrow. Going to the footy with the bigger 2 has become our “thing” the last few years. It’s like a bad movie at the moment but we can’t bring ourselves to switch it off. Fully divorcing yourself from the MFC is hard to do. Go Dees!!!

  16. Since round 23 I've been very indifferent. It's tough to care. The North game I was vocal because I wanted to beat that mob so badly, but beyond that, the results thus far have just proven that it's not worth the emotional investment. I'm not going this week or next, I've already planned my Sunday morning and plan to casually go home and watch it. No way I'm planning an entire Sunday around it. But I've now come to the conclusion that I'm not going to a game again until it's firmly established that we're out of this 10-year funk. That will probably taken a clinched finals berth. Call me a bandwagoner or whatever. I've had way too many a weekend ruined by caring too much. I'm still reeling from that Collingwood match, and the team hasn't done anything yet to earn back my support and trust.

  17. 3/4 time Geelong 11-8-74 to Casey 5-4-34 Casey haven’t been horrible it’s just Geelong have been all over them. As for the MFC listed, Stretch okay but not good disposals, Frost has been quiet as had been Petty. Keilty’s made mistakes but was better that quarter. Bugg has gone missing, JKH has barely touched it. Baker been good, Garlett quiet but had a number of important touches, Pedo okay but no one can take a mark. Both Smiths have been decent, Dion Johnstone has done nothing.

  18. Geelong must be killing us in uncontested possessions they seem to be everywhere and Casey are against a small breeze Pedo just marked 25 meteres but got the 50 m penalty Quarter time Geelong 3-3-21 to Casey 1-1-7

  20. Hi all, The site will go down tonight, some time after 8pm for some maintenance that needs to be done sooner rather than later. Hoping it will be less than an hour in duration. I know it’s annoying to happen during a Casey match, but it’s the only chance I’ll get to do it in the near future so too bad. Cheers

  21. I’m keen to see the much vaunted ‘connection’ take place tomorrow. I have a feeling the forward line is going to function much better with Tmac back in the team and I like the combo of Fritsch and Hannan. Both can leap and snag goals out of nothing. Bombers defence will find it hard to contain our attack imo.

  23. You are joking about it not coming from Dees supporters, try reading the rubbish that accompanies a pist by the Club I was at Casey game at Richmomd 2 MFC supporters were bagging Wagner who wasn't even playing, pity he was sitting directly in front of them

  25. So my selection for the trifecta is Kingsgauard. Will roll along on speed and be hard to get past. No bets bets, though having looked at race 6 i had a quick glance at some other races at hawksbury. Victorem will be hard to beat i would have thought. And White Moss and Up and rolling will on speed and hard to beat. Both are pretty good value i think.

  26. I'm so rusted on I'm actually less stressed sitting at the game watching the boys then I am checking the scores while attempting to concentrate on something else. Been to so many losses over the last 20 years you kind of get (partially) immune to it, even though Collingwood last year was probably the worst I've ever felt at the footy and for ages after. I'm too scared to not go because that's exactly when we'll have a ripper win!

  30. It may have something to do with the current trend in footy. In previous years teams implemented a flood, then a cluster, then a press, then a stoppage based gameplan. The last two years have seen the Bulldogs and Tigers win premierships on the back of frantic pressure and frenetic ball movement. Teams are trying to either imitate or implement this ideology. With this leap in pressure, the skills have gone to hell.

  33. You could give Ladbrokes a call Wadda but Day/Ruffles have blown out in the odds anyway ... the other 3 picks have more relevance and you could add-on to the 3 picks or delete 1 or 2 that don't your fancy. I got 17-1 (boosted) for the 3 picks at Ladbrokes and I'm happy with that.

  36. Yeah Ivictory broke the course record for 1200m at its last start at Happy Valley (01.08.52) but ... its up against the Group 1 horses for the first time. And the Group 1 horses have run similar or better times at Sha Tin. Some have run around 01.08.00 flat. This is a classic reason why I prefer trifectas. I get 'em all running around for me! (well, not all Wadda) I reckon Ivictory can get into the finish but so can about 4 or 5 other horses (especially Mr Stunning & Beat the Clock) It should be a cracking race, all the same. The Mile race & 2000m Group 1 races on the card have similar back stories. Here are the 3 races ... The Champions Mile The Chairman's Sprint The Audemars Piguet Qeil Cup The racing never ends for me ... as of next week Morphettville and Dommben get into full swing and then there's all the big group racing from Europe that starts up next week as well (and that lasts for 4 or 5 months with 1 or 2 Group 1 races every week) It's good therapy and a good distraction if the footy team isn't traveling well ?

  38. I highly doubt that trash was coming from Dee supporters. It was most likely crows fans attacking his poorish form at the start of the season. Agree with all else though.

  39. Would have been interesting to read Crow posts when he decided to leave. I'm sure there were plenty of haters & negative Nancy's.... This stuff is unfortunately not just restricted to our supporter base. It's a scourge on society.

  42. Agreed. An all round crap season thus far. My friends and I who all barrack for different teams have a footy chat group going. It’s been going for a good 4 years now. And gees everyone is disappointed in this season so far, even those who support teams that are doing relatively well. It’s like tumbleweeds in the chat and tumbleweeds on game day. Total snooze fest.

  43. Honestly if TMac is a pure decoy on Sunday and gets 2 marks and a goal, I will be fine with it. He has enough of a fitness base to stand in the forward line and get some touch. He won’t do much better in the VFL and is wasted there.

  45. TMac did the entire pre-season. He’s essentially only been out for 5 weeks, so he should still be in pretty decent nick. He’s also fundamentally one of the fittest players at the club to begin with. Viney is further away purely because he has no conditioning. It’s clearly being treated on a case by case basis and I’m a long way from being prepared to call “mismanagement” until I see how TMac actually goes.
