  1. And there's the thing D2014. It would be so perfect for the 2 founding teams to be meeting at the business end of the season. Does anyone else feel bemused by the complete lack of respect shown to the Dees and the Dogs in the first 2 years of AFLW. I am gobsmacked that they are passed over for the big games and as always the League focusses on the so called power clubs who have yet to provide any evidence of competitiveness. (Fair go to Adelaide and Lions for making the grand final last year by the way) BUT Melbourne and Footscray are the originators of this form of the game. Surely they should be opening the season at the very least. All this is off topic but it does get my goat! Go Dees!

  3. Um, she lost 15 kgs since last season and of her 3 goals, one was outrunning an opponent and another was the match-winner. Not to mention a sublime pick-up at full speed out of a contest which we'd marvel at in the men's game. All in the second half when other players were running out of gas. Looks pretty good to me.

  4. Yes, we have a good list with one of the best mid-fields (the first year ruck is a beauty BTW). And yes we seem well coached (nice ball movement patterns when they stick) But the big thing for me that seems lost on everyone (especially the commentators) is how well prepared physically the team is. To a player they look really fit & healthy and they can run all day. Brilliant conditioning. A quick comment on the "standard". It's a second year comp being played in non-optimal weather conditions. The standard is already vastly better than last year and improving on the fly. I'd guess it will evolve into it's own spectacle (which I hope is more attacking and rewarding of flare).

  5. Feeling sorry for Carlton Captain Brianna Davey with a confirmed ACL injury in their game vs GWS. “she’s in the best medical hands” according to Carlton football manager Andrew Mackay. True to form, I’m sure those medicos are looking for a way to pin this on Jesse Hogan to give him weeks.

  6. This article is a about Tom's new role as a forward http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-11/stressfree-dee-relishing-his-shot-up-forward But there is a tantalising line at the end (re contract): "I'd like to get something done soon," he said. The club hasn't come back to me with anything yet, but it'd be nice to have it done earlier rather than later." Last time he put off contract talks till the end of the season. Not so this time! Looks like he will be off the Free Agency list before too long.

  8. I wouldn’t be relying on Mr Leg if I were you OD. He was last seen on a banana plantation in Pago Pago holding court with the locals and was apparently so impressed with the place that he’s considering migrating to Western Samoa and laying down his roots there.

  10. Geelong Shmeelong. Dangerfield is a toss, Selwood is a ducking idiot and Ablett is just plain weird. Plus Harry Taylor walks like he has something in his butt. I haven’t look forward to our opening game this much since 2013.

  14. Good afternoon ... @Wadda We Sing, @Demon77 In a parlay bet with the TAB a horses odds would reduce if there were a lot of scratchings as you're getting paid tote odds. I'm not defending the TAB as I'm in agreement that the fixed odds shouldn't alter once you've laid that bet. As far as I can make out the fixed Sportsbet odds offered don't change once you've laid your bet but I could be wrong on that - of course, all their odds are never tote odds but the fixed odds can vary depending on the time of day or the day in question (just like it does at the TAB) I joined up at Sportsbet in 5 minutes although the process takes 2 or 3 days to be verified/approved. Deposits can be bank transfers/cards/paypal and withdrawn money can be deposited in your bank account. All online of course. I'm not a spokesperson for Sportsbet by the way, other online betting companies could be way better and I may well explore those options as well ... Sportsbet.com

  15. In regards to other online bookies, a lot of them offer better odds and all sorts of incentives to try and lure new punters or customers of other online agencies. Every bookie except Tab will pay on the horse first past post regardless if that horse loses a protest. If the horse loses a protest they will pay out twice. That's one tool used to get a leg over the Tab.

  16. I believe it only applies to scratchings Wadda. If you place the single bet early and there are a few scratchings you will lose some of the original price. Say there are no scratchings the day before or in the morning prior to the race but there are one or two late scratchings at the barrier you might find a deduction on your bet if it wins, all depending on the price of those late scratchings. You won't lose the original price on fixed if your horse is backed off the map and shortens in the market. I totally agree with the principle, it wasn't the $5 I was worried about with my multi, I wanted to invest in bigger odds not a single bet. It's not my fault two of my selections decided they would join the rodeo whilst at the barriers.

  18. Yes well thats also my question, does this apply to normal fixed odds 1 out bet? Or, is does it just apply to multis? Im mean why have a fixed odds bet if its not fixed? Im sure ive had odds come in before and still been paid the original price on multis......or does it just apply to scratchings? Im totally confused. Let me know how the sportsbet option pans out. How hard and how long it takes to sign up etc. Think im done with the TAB too. Its not the 20 bucks, its the principle.

  19. That wouldn’t be Phat Phil, R & B. According to my NSW informants, he can’t fit into the change rooms at Giant HQ. Not only that, it’s rumoured that he’s involved in pre-production for the Ten Network’s forthcoming new lifestyle series, “My Three Tons”.

  20. As I said in a post earlier in the week, this Dees womens’ team is a classy outfit. I watch them with great satisfaction partly because I rarely have that sinking feeling that I have watching the men that their game all of a sudden will fall in a heap. i think more more than anything else they have some outstanding leaders in Pearce, Paxman and Hickey as well as some class in Hoare, Cunningham, O’Dea, Cranston and Newman. Mithen is pretty good as well. I look forward to watching them for the remainder of the season. They are a step above the rest of the competition at the moment, and play a great brand of football. I hope I will not be proved wrong for the remaining hopefully six weeks. I don’t think so!! The Dogs will be the crunch game IMHO.

  21. I closed my Tab account over a year ago, I had some issues with them leading up to the closure and at that stage I’d had enough. I only recently opened a Tab account under the wife’s name (with her permission of course) so I could utilise a new members bonus bet, plus their app is user friendly for live betting. I enjoy the soccer multis also and find it quicker on their app to place a live bet. I haven’t used Sportsbet for a few years but they seem to be as popular as ever.

  23. I'm wondering if Sportsbet have the same sort of one-sided rules? I joined up tonight just to see what they are like. I've got a few mates that gave up on the TAB long ago ... they've gone to Sportsbet as well as Ladbrokes & William Hill etc. Because I only ever bet online I'm no longer rusted on to the TAB and after hearing your story & Wadda's story I'll probably be making the switch sooner rather than later. I'm constantly being told that the odds are better elsewhere anyway.

  24. Lol, I feel your pain Wadda but unfortunately that's the crap we have to put up with. I stand to be corrected but I'm sure when fixed odds betting first came out there was no disclaimer (Refunds and Deductions Apply) printed on the tickets. They probably figured it was costing them too much. While we are on a rant, the multi I placed last night at the Valley saw my first two legs scratched at the barrier leaving my 3 leg multi as a single win bet on a $2.80 pop. Where was my refund? It ended up as a losing bet because the horse in my 3rd leg couldn't run out of sight in the dark. Under the circumstances a refund would have been appropriate. I placed a multi for the bigger odds, not to back a horse at $2.80 with my $5. Rant over

  25. That is an ordinary outcome Wadda ... when a horse is scratched from a multi we're left with the same bet minus that leg. Which often defeats the purpose of having that multi in the first place. We take our chances on the early odds knowing that can happen. So the odds shouldn't change just because other horses are scratched - the TAB should wear that. It's just typical. It would have been the 'Show A Star' odds by the looks of it as that race ended up having only a 5 horse field. Still, I'm with you ... they've got some nerve short changing the payout on a fixed odds multi. Related are the fixed odds themselves ... both last weekend and this weekend the odds on a number of our selections started reducing from Thursday evening onwards. I'm going to continue to go early with my best bet for the reasons outlined above - and then hope like hell there aren't any mass scratchings from the race the best bet is applied to!

  26. Ok, i have a complaint. The multi i put on on Wednesday night, 3 legs, paying 81.00 or 8.10/1. Gailo Chop, Show a Star and Melbourne (w). Multi salutes thanks to the gallant efforts of the Dees girls team. (maybe a start for 1 or 2 come the season beginning). I went to collect my 81.00 and low and behold it paid out 64.00!! When i went to enquire across the bar at the said Pubtab, the tab representative said i should note the terms and conditions printed on the ticket which state, Refunds and Deductions Apply. He said if there are scratchings it can change the payout price. Well ive never heard of this before, and ive had more multis than a harem in ancient Greece!! Ok well maybe not that many, but still. I beg the question, why bother putting a fixed odds multi on in advance at all if the odds are not fixed, it need to be clearly stated. Rant over. Not happy.

  30. Criticism of the women's game is a bit rich. Most of us were blown away by the competition last season and the skills displayed by the women. So far we are one round into the new season and most of the comments came from the Collingwood-Carlton game. Enjoy the game for what it is and accept there are differences between the men and women's game. There may be skill differences and less scoring opportunities but that does not mean the game is less enjoyable to watch. I have watched a lot of footy including the amateurs and country footy and despite the skill differences, those matches have for the most part been very enjoyable to watch. Low scoring games can be more exciting and interesting than goal feasts. We should celebrate the women's game as women have been a significant part of the game since its inception, both as spectators and later as players. Leave it alone and let it grow organically without interference from the AFL or TV bosses calling the tune. Can you imagine the reaction of coaches and the footy world if the AFL had issued an edict to the men's teams as they did to the women. The men of the AFL want to reap the financial rewards of the women's game but at the same time, tell the women how to play the game. They should direct their attention to the men's game, and clean up the ugly game that it has become. If you leave the management of the women's game to women, the game will be much better off. Men will never understand women's sport.

Happy for the lasses to fly our flag and enjoy their footy. I'll be more involved with actually be interested when the REAL stuff starts... All dancing with sisters til then. Go Dees....bring on season '18

  33. It was a dull first half and then the Gunners looked like they didn't want to be there. As you said, Tottenham could have easily scored 3 or 4 goals. Arsenal look like they might be putting all their efforts into the Europa League. They might win it too and thus find another way into the Champions League (although they would want to avoid Napoli, Dortmund & Atletico Madrid!) As for the CL knockout fixtures, there's 4 big match-ups (Juve/Spurs, Real Madrid/PSG, Sevilla/Man Utd & Chelsea/Barca) that I'll be tuning into. All played on different days too. That is great scheduling for the neutrals. Juventus are in fine form so your lads will be in for a tough 2 games (Juve have only conceded 1 goal since Nov 20) Good luck GV!

  34. Yes @Demon77 Of our 4 best bets yesterday 3 of the horses were $2 chances and that won't always be the case ... so hedging on the treble within the 4 pick multi could well offer much better odds. Yesterday I put a little extra on the 3 leg multi that got up ... it was paying $8 as opposed to the other 3 combinations all paying around about $13. Thus, I ended up doubling my total outlay (which also included a bet on the 4 pick multi) If for instance our 4 picks next week (if all participate) are showing fixed dividends of say 2.20, 2.70, 3.20 & 3.50 then the trebles would pay as follows ... $19, $21, $25 & $30. And the pick 4 multi would pay $66. The above is just my way of doing things ... I thought we'd possibly get 4 best bets (or more) so that was my contingency plan ... others can do with the picks what they want.

  36. Upscaling/adjusting of the scores from yesterdays MFC Vs Crows game for minutes played would have us scoring almost the 100 points level (98.82 to be precise) generally considered to be par in the men's game. Even then, there were numerous times in the second half of last season our mens team failed to get above the 100 points mark.

  45. Well I'm looking forward to AFLX (Seriously) The Anti-Congestion Football League? Peering into my crystal ball this is what I foresee ... The games will be open, fast, free-flowing affairs with players able to run and bounce the ball. There will be almost zero congestion which will make the game far easier to officiate. If you do like congested footy, you may not like this version of the sport. Long kicks will be in vogue - but often for the receiving players to run on to. The 10 pointer also encourages long kicks. The wings (just like it used to be in Soccer/Aussie Rules) will be utilised by actual wingmen. The high-marking forward could return and we will see numerous 1 on 1 contests. Numbers at the contest, create a stoppage/win the stoppage won't be happening either. The games will be exciting and will remind viewers and spectators of how our once great game used to be played - there will be comments along the lines of ... "Why can't we see this sort of footy when the real stuff happens" (again, think of all the congestion we now have to put up with) Because the games have been cleverly designed for a rectangular field, it gives a great chance for the sport to be grown overseas. I reckon it's a great initiative - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've been at the league to fix the real stuff so that it's at least watchable again but this initiative will at least give us a glimpse of what can be. It fits my narrative. If it works and becomes really popular, the sky is the limit. Both in America & in Europe there are hundreds of large capacity stadiums with rectangular fields. In fact, this version of footy can be taken anywhere in the world (if it works) As a means to an end, this version of the sport may help fix the issues that I see in the main version of the sport ... that's how I will be viewing the exercise.
