  1. This is my favourite clash jumper ever. If we have to have a clash strip this is it. This is a Melbourne jumper, in fact it's the Melbourne Jumper I fell in love with as a little kid. I fell in love with it because it's the jumper Robbie Flower wore. When I drew Melbourne jumpers incessantly as a kid, this is the jumper I drew, I didn't use the dark blue texta. I was in my teens when we reverted to Navy, I love the Navy and that's our strip, always will be. But this clash is unmistakably Melbourne. Our Jumper is blue with a red yoke, not the other way around, not white, not silver, not a logo or picture on the chest. Well done to the club, can't believe nobody thought of this sooner. I hope we keep keep this and the redback jumper for our clash strips for a very long time and put this argument to bed forever.

  2. Still cant believe we got him. Best young key defender in the game with a decade of elite footy ahead of him. Is that a big enough 'fish' for everyone?

  5. Romsey/Lancefied is a beautiful part of the Macedon ranges. BUT, emphasis is on Jake wanting to come home AND he chose us, being able to go to any Vic club. Bummers would have been more convenient. The other aspect of the article is just how stressed his life has been last few months, yet he turns up to training early in peak condition. Professional. And only 21.

  6. Quote from the Age article: “ One of the aspects of returning to Victoria that excites him most is the chance to watch Romsey play on Saturdays when the Demons play a Friday night game” Ho ho ho yuk yuk giggle. Somebody please tell the lad!

  9. It’s a nothing article, really. That said, I always enjoy reading an article where a Melbourne player is quoted as saying they love the club. This guy is going to be an absolute gun. But everyone knows that. His signature was our success in 2017.

  10. As a Brisbane-based supporter, very disappointed with this. Not bagging the club as being hopeless or anything, but as others have said, this has been scheduled for the Saturday morning each of the last 3-4 years and been a big success with 300-400 attending and plenty of local media exposure. We drive up every year and my two young boys love it, being one of the highlights of the year. They've been asking me for weeks when it'll be and are now very confused. I appreciate the footy department comes first but scheduling it for Friday instead of the traditional Saturday is actually worse than not having one at all and just claiming the week is a closed one. I see there's plenty of Demonlanders taking the pi$$ and seeing no issue. That's a complete lack of understanding of how successful the Saturday sessions have been in the past and the exposure the Dees have been able to have with young kids , local media and the general footy community up here. Really feels like an own-goal.

  11. “It just reeks of self-importance. I reckon he’s got to be more humble or choose his words better, ” Blight told Sportsday radio. “The future will be what it’s going to be, but I had a saying, which I think I nearly invented, and that was: ‘The footy god can sometimes get you’. Translation: "Oi young fella - be more humble! Oh and by the way everyone else, check out this brilliant phrase I invented!" The irony is too much. Jog on, Blighty ...

  12. Well thats what i like is that everyone put their 2c worth in, and we went close to a result. So thats a punters club to me. Its good practice. Lets try and snag a big quaddie over the Autumn when the pools are a bit more decent. (822,911.00 in that pool). Yes Macca, it was a low payout, good luck tomorrow.

  13. I have attended the past two Maroochydore Camps and it usually takes place a little earlier in January. Several AFL clubs compete for times at this facility and it may not have been possible for MFC to get the dates they wanted. Also, Qld Term dates are earlier than Vic schools, so the Qld kids are already back for Term 1.

  14. It's not just Hawkins, the big forwards always kill us. Daniher, Ben Brown, Grundy in r23, Roughead and the other bloke in the 23 for the Hawks who killed us this year (edit - O'Brien), Franklin who usually does a number on us. I guess they're hoping OMac and/or Frost will come on in leaps and bounds this year and have faith that our midfield strength and zone defence will do the trick. We will still be vulnerable to the "one out" or get out long bomb to the big forwards though.

  15. Bad luck on that quaddie fellas - wasn't a huge dividend though so that's some comfort. You never want to go that close and miss out on 4 figures. I've saved my bickies for Sha Tin tomorrow ... there's at least 7 horses that can get into the finish in the G1 Stewards Cup (Race 8) so it should be a great mile race. However, I'm not confident of getting the right combo in a trifecta in that race so will instead have a go at the G1 Centenary Sprint Cup (Race 7) 1, 2 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 is my preferred 2-5-5 outcome in a trifecta. The favourite no.1 (Mr Stunning) should win but I'm hoping that the 2 (D B Pin) can beat it out to the finish. It's only an 8 horse field but the right combo can still pay alright.

  17. I added Mortons Fork in the last leg. Sohool worked hard early to get outside the leader and unfortunately couldn't find much. Oh well, the usual 3 legged Quaddie.

  18. Watching it run, we knew something was amiss, but i put it down to weight......Glad hes changed stables in that case. Pity about the quad. Think Sohool is due for a rest as well.

  20. They started early today because of the heat - you could always do a parlay with the rest of your tips. Or multi it up with 1 or 2 races at Rosehill.

  22. I do know one thing ... there are more than just 5 or 6 punters on 'land! Sooner or later they'll be attracted to the thread or just stumble upon it by happenstance. And everyone loves a tip! But the thread does need a new name - any of your suggestions or any other relevant name will do. The mods would probably need to change it but if it can't be done then 'Spring Carnival Caulfield' might just have to do. Speaking of 'Punter to Punter', I was a real fan of the RRR show back in the day - Tracy Harvey (Tammy?), Slim Whittle, Dr Turf, Con Marasco, Trevor Marmalade et al were simply great and highly entertaining. Here's a blast from the past from the RRR crew ...

  23. Lol, just discussing this with my wife who grew up in and around Gisbourne/Macedon. Unfortunately, Romsey is the backwater of the area known as the ‘inbred’ kinda spot where there’s only four families but relative (pun intended) exponential population growth! A little bit ‘Deliverence’. No slight on Jake, though, what a get for MFC! Carn Dees!

  24. Good morning one and all ! My Australia Day celebrations started off at a house warming in Castlemaine and went downhill from there. There was so much thunder and lightning on the way home, that the petrol station in Daylesford was refusing to sell fuel ! Luckily i limped home anyway. So, ive just managed to troll through the above posts and i totally concur. I like looking at other peoples suggested tips because i seem to have the unenviable knack of reading any given form guide and completely missing the obvious! Now if you'd like to attract more people to the thread, may i suggest a name change? Im not sure how you change thread titles, but i think the OP can do it? The OP only posted once here, so we may have to send him a message, (or write to DL). Im open to any suggestions for a title change, but my first thought was, Punter2Punter, or The Punting Thread. Not totally original, but nevertheless may have the desired effect. I think the idea of a best bet for the day is a good one. If only you had of posted Cordero Macca, as i spent a good part of the afternoon speaking to a friend whos 2nd name was Cordero! But there you go. Its nice to have a standout horse, as it can be very useful in a leg here and there. If only there were such a thing!! I like the standout leg, because at the end of the day, you have to punt on something! If you can snare a standout, then your return will most likely be greater. Thanks for liking my Quad. I dont mind the old quaddie. I especially loved the days when you got 2 legs for the one number. ie 4 and 14. Lost count of how many times the second number would get up! I also like going skinny one leg and wide in another. Trying to snag a one out and pick the roughy in a field leg is my favourite form of punting (apart from the all ups). As i said you have to at some stage bet on something, so i like to throw one in here and there. Also Macca, i concur with the non compulsory nature, as stuff happens and punting can take a distant second to lifes callings. Good luck to all and may the punt be with you! Ps what sort of run was that from the 3yo Enable! and what about the track! Left and right hand turns....what next, witches hats!?? (ok, yes we will leave that to the Dees!)

  25. Weir is certainly a character ... and an excellent trainer. You often can't afford to leave out any of his horses. Some jockeys are like that too (Bowman rode 2 winners yesterday) Anyway, with regards to posting up a tip, I will almost certainly stick to the group races and in those races there is often a standout horse at non-prohibitive odds ... again, the place odds only can also be tempting. If we by chance end up with 5 or 6 legs then every add-on can often keep at least doubling the total odds. And we can even leave something out of the multi if it doesn't appeal - each individual has a choice. As it stands, it might just be 3 or maybe 4 picks but that's ok. I also reckon that it can't be a compulsory thing either - we either as individuals put in a tip in any given week or we don't. We all get caught up doing other things and it's not always possible to read up on the form and then post up a tip. Good punting to all !

  29. Tricky indeed, small field, add the Valley factor and quite often a speed horse will take some catching in a sprint race. In saying that, I still felt Brave Smash was the top choice. Lol, I much preferred the appraisal from Weir on Big Dukes' failure in the Mooney Valley Cup back in the spring. When asked on radio a day or so about the poor showing, he simply replied " the horse went sh*thouse." No sugar coating that time. I think we could have some fun throwing our " Best Bets" together, especially with the Autumn Carnival just around the corner.
    2 points
  30. Ha ha! Of course we find out after the event that Weir thought the horse could have been a bit underdone - tell us beforehand please Darren! That race was really tricky - in the end I liked Brave Smash as well but a case could have been made for any of the 6 horses to win. The Tri & F4 in that race were healthy dividends, all things considered. Anyway, my take on offering a tip for a multi would be that if I can't see anything jumping out at me, I'll refrain. I don't like to guess. But apart from keeping the thread ticking over, it gives us a chance to combine our thoughts for a possible profit. 2 heads are better than 1 and all that, D77.

  31. I like the idea Macca. I'd be more than happy to participate and I'm interested to see what a few more think. My pick of the weekend was Brave Smash in the Group 2 at the Valley tonight, it wasn't very brave though.

  32. Sometimes it has to be about the supporters. There are a lot of QLD and nationwide passionate Demons that might not even get a chance to see the team live at all throughout a year. Last year we were receiving daily diary reports for the duration of the training camp of what players were getting up to and that included the weekend. It doesn't have to be a training session on a Saturday for supporters to attend, the club could organise a simple Meet and Greet for a couple of hours.

  36. I'm flat out picking Eagles. You can't NOT in my position. They really could win. In with a shot despite the Belly and Brady thing. The fact it's against the greatest coach and player of all time. Who beat the Eagles in the superbowl ten years ago. In the context of injuries galore and coming from last in the NFC East the year before. It's too dramatic and magical not to get swept up in.

  37. Footyology with him and Mark Fine was a pretty good ch31/youtube series in 2016, Finey balances well with Connoly, and prevents it from turning into what usually occurs on radio, Connoly getting into arguments with everyone. Hope they bring it back

  39. I think we are past going for the big fish... We have our own homegrown to look after now. Clubs will be knocking on Oliver's door, Petracca and others, lets keep this list together as long as it takes to get the elusive flag. To me a player like Sloane would end up around our 3rd or 4th mid behind Oliver & Patracca and on par with Viney but we would be paying him number 1 mid money. Not a wise spend... Look at needs and spend wisely...Hibberd is an example. Although not a free agent he fitted a real need to have quality run and disposal from defence. Gaff maybe the one to look at but that depends on money and how some of our younger players come on.

  43. It seems so long ago that he arrived at Melbourne that his acquisition at times seems to have fallen into the background. He is a quality KPD still with more development left in him, with at least 10 years remaining, an automatic starting 18 inclusion (and first picked in the backline along with Nev and Pig - TMAC's gone forward now) and he has good decision making and disposal skills (something our current KPD's seem to lack). His arrival makes us at least a 2 goal better side a game. He'll stop one and give us one by having TMAC go up forward. I felt that our backline at best stagnated, but more realistically went backwards last year. Not only does he sure up our back half, he makes it better, all the while freeing up TMAC to go forward and team up with Hogan. His arrival immediately makes us a better side than last year (no matter the cost of 2 first round picks). If Harrison Petty develops into a similarly gifted player, it will help turn our back half into a solid and dour defensive force.

  48. All business need luck or "fluke" to in the right place at the right time, and this does happen to many people, but the success comes from the hard work to build that opportunity into wealth.

  49. The business started as liquor run - they delivered alcohol on scooters and Joel even drove the grog himself. A good idea but low margin and I'm sure with regulations it wouldn't have been easy to turn profits. I think even Joel would admit there was a huge amount of luck in hiring the right IT guys to set up the software which became incredibly valuable at the right time and is now the business. Full credit to him for recognising that and growing the business, especially with the way he's gone overseas and really taken it on.

  50. Really? How does a person "fluke" a business valued at about $200 mill? Wouldn't have anything to do with his hard work, IT nous, intelligence and business skills by chance? Pretty successful bloke at the age of 33. The company is picking up good contracts overseas, so the next 12 months will be interesting to watch. Good on him.
