Is it just me ? I cant help but feel Dom is consistently under rated here. I see him as SUPER important to our set up. Kelly may be great...MAY be great. So MAY Salem. Dom is already on the cusp of that imo.9 points

If people want to visit the past, then the question is simple today, would you swap Tyson and Salem for Kelly. I wouldn't.8 points

They have a privacy policy outlining everything they can do with your data. If you're that concerned you can read it. Most of the time every app request access to everything because it takes away the issue later if they decide to add features. Calendar is literally just so they can sync the fixture to the phone's calendar so that’s pretty obvious. As of yet they haven’t sent a representative to any of my events. With the Location you can turn off the gps on you deceive (they can't turn it on remotely) meaning they will only be able to tell what cell tower you phone is connected to if you’re worried they are going to have you followed. Note about the camera and photos etc that just allows them to access them if they choose to add some kind of photo sharing or social media integration. Phone I think means they can make calls from the app as well and allows for optimisation when a call comes through (programmy stuff which means they can sense a call and prevent the app from crashing, a common in older applications before this practice became regular) Device and app history is really useful in debugging any issues. If the app crashes it will send a report to them so they can work to fix it. I can assure you this is very much needed! You try solving a problem if the only information you have is "It crashed" And contacts means the can add themselves directly from the app. again just conveniences. You don’t have to use the app the mobile site will do the job as well. Fun fact: The app (along with the AFL one) is made by Hawkeye. They have a enquires button in the link below if you want to contact and ask about it http://www.hawkeyeinnovations.co.uk/sports/afl6 points

That's not how it works though mate. 'Access' doesn't mean 'we are looking at what is on your phone and saving it' it means that the app has the ability to use those other apps on your phone. All access does is allow you to use different apps together, for example, the photos is so you can upload to the apps Photo Booth, and download the wallpapers, it uses the calendar so it can automatically input specific events into your phone, cal details is just the broad headline for the access to the ringtones, and the contacts is probably for a futures feature such as having your mates connected through the app. Theyre not after your information, people tend to freak out when they see the word access, but you really don't need too.5 points

But the deal was more complicated than that because it involved us losing pick 20 (from memory). Having said that I think two very good players are more valuable than a great player. I'm surprised that so many prefer Kelly to Fyfe. Fyfe is a champion, Brownlow medalist and can play on ball and forward and probably anywhere else, is a dangerous mark and contested ball winning beast who finds it all the time. Kelly has done little yet. He's another Scully IMO who is a slightly better kick. Kelly may be very good, but Fyfe is great.5 points

The players make things to sell on family day...little baskets made from icy-pole sticks, doilies, oranges stuck with cloves to throw in the sock drawer, macrame wristlets etc. I just hope there are no repetitive strain injuries...if there are, heads should roll!5 points

You were right, there was a bit more to it. " Melbourne was so keen on Tyson that they parted with pick No. 2 in last year's NAB AFL Draft to land him. The deal also involved the swapping of picks 20 and 72, while the Demons received Tyson and picks nine (Christian Salem) and pick 53. " We gave up picks 2, 20 and 72 for Tyson and picks 9 and 53. We then used pick 53, which became pick 57 because of compo picks, to pick up a kid called Hunt. Wonder if the media realize that?4 points

Tyson is underrated by many around here. Kelly has some qualities we need and Bontempelli is a freak but Tyson is still among the best we have and still has improvement left in him. I expect if he gets himself right after this knee issue he will be way up near the top of the B&F again.4 points

This morning it is 31,041 up 178 from yesterday. That is good increase for one day. Which makes me wonder if the membership 'slow down' is a function of when staff returned from leave and catch up with what was there over the break rather than a tapering off of memberships. It will taper off at some stage but as long as we keep the increase so far (from 2016) we will end up with at least 42,000 members. Win a few pre-season and early in-season games and 45,000 should be easily reached!4 points

I'd probably feel that way but then again we picked Hogan over him in the mini draft, he can probably understand that one, and then we traded the pick he was taken at to get the more experienced Tyson and avoid subjecting him to the saviour complex. In many ways we did him a favour.4 points

Nor would I. I still think we're on the right side of this deal, even though Kelly is seriously good. It's deals like this that enabled the club to turn the quality of the list around so quickly.3 points

Probably a bit of both, difference I note in Melbourne sessioms is more focus on footy and the physicality As for the Indigenous players and some of the silly comments on here, every Indigenous player on every list is there, they train whilst there, usually they have All Stars game at the end but not this year On Pedo, think the weight loss is deliberate, will ask him at next training in Melb, unless somebody gets chance in QLD, reckon they have new role for him, have not seen him do any ruck work at all at training3 points

I agree completely. I haven't seen a better extractor at Melbourne in my 29 years of supporting. Not to mention he won the combine kicking. He's going to be our Sam Mitchell. Absolute gun clearance player who you can't stop when he's on. A faster, better kicking version of Cripps. He excites me the most.3 points

Not a lot to report from today's session. My guess is that today's training whilst designed to be one of 3 main sessions for the camp, was never meant to be full gas like some that I have seen up here over the past 3 years, where they were monitoring body temps etc. It was a bit lackluster in my book. Either they are: still acclimatizing / still hungover from Australia Day / have already been thrashed over the last 2 days. Take your pick? I'm expecting Saturday's session to be the one to be at to get a better reflection of how things are tracking. Here's some observations from today session for what it's worth: * Maynard and Tim Smith both caught my eye. Both impressed me with their mobility for big guys and impact around the ground. Smith looks to me like he has worked hard on his game and will contribute something to the seniors. Maynard's swagger reminds me a bit of watching Petracca for the first time 2 years ago. Smith a focal point up forward and I think Maynard a back/mid at a guess. * Slightly different vibe about training from the past 3 years. Couldn't put a finger on what it was. Perhaps the best way to describe it is it was a little more chilled out. Not sure if that is good or bad but it was noticeable. * Surprised at some of the different faces being vocal and taking leadership roles. Vandenburg & Bugg among them. * Won't bother listing the rehabbers, if anyone wants to know I'm sure they'll ask. I can say that all of them are not far off the pace and in good nick considering. * Just realized none of the indigenous boys were there. Maybe training with the Boomerangs or something? Just guessing. * Clarry provided the highlight of the session for me, making a tackle that I'm still shaking head at and wondering how he made it. * Jason Taylor watching on. Was good to see him still taking an interest in how the newer recruits were travelling. * The Hulk looking confident with his goal kicking. Still waiting for some signs that some of that greatness is kicking in - Lets wait and see what Saturday brings.3 points

In quite a few games last season, Bull played better then most if not all of the Melbourne listed forwards in the VFL. If he gets a go in the JLT games, or even plays well enough in the Casey pre season games, expect to see him getting his debut early in the season. For those that haven't met him, he is a super nice and respectful kinda guy, has worked his arse off to get where he is, and I think is more appreciative because of the hard work he has had to put into getting this opportunity. If any of the new recruits deserve senior games this season, it's definitely Bull (Even more then Keilty, who I am absolutely dieing for, hoping he gets a shot) He might not become a superstar, but he is definitely the most entertaining player outside the AFL I have ever watched. His ability to take marks that shouldn't be possible and his attack on the ball as well as anyone with the ball is great to watch. If he gets a go and stays in good form, he will become a favourite of the Melbourne supporters, gaurenteed.3 points

I was invited to a GWS coterie function a while ago and got on the cans with Kevin Sheedy. We discussed Josh Kelly (more below). I used to dislike Sheedy until I met him. He's a legend. I've met him a number of times since. My view has not changed. He should've been appointed coach of the MFC in 2008 IMO - all would've been different, but I now don't care because I reckon the club is perfectly positioned for the future and has finally got its act together. Conversation re Josh Kelly went like this: Me: 'What do you think of Kelly for Tyson and pick 9?' Sheedy: 'Stupid deal. Trust me, the Kelly kid is one out of the box - he will be an absolute superstar - we killed this trade.' Me: 'You said that about Scully too.' Sheedy: '@&$% you, ya %*+#head!' Me: 'We're super happy with Tyson and Salem and we need mids desperately, so two for the price of one suits our needs.' Sheedy: 'Tyson ain't that great and Kelly will be a superstar - glad you're pleased with your club about this because Kelly is out of the box and your club could've had him.' Me: 'Like we could've had you Sheeeeeds! ?' Sheeds: 'Yep, exactly. Hate the Melbourne Football Club. Didn't even get invited to the final interview stage. Hopeless $@&%s. They've overlooked me twice now, both as a player and a coach. No wonder they're a freaken basket case!' We then drank more beer.3 points

Maybe at Etihad but at most grounds Hogan is at his best using his endurance to work over players up the ground on the lead and in one on ones in space. I think his best games have been 10+ mark games roaming around the ground.2 points

Nope. We overrate all young players, every team does, but when comparing with each other I don't think Salem's been placed wrong. Billy Stretch is a beauty, he could and probably should play most of the next 100-150 games running a wing, I think he could slot in to most teams in the comp and do a job. Kent has talent and potential to do some really good things but is still an inconsistent prospect for the future given he has to fix up his weaknesses (yet alone his body) and consistently use his great attributes. Salem's prospects are above both and I wouldn't have many ahead of him. He's a really clever ball user and reader of the play. Sure it was dud game for the team but he racked up 27 touches after being out for 15 weeks in round 23. His tackling is really good. He's far tougher and more courageous than he looks. And he has enough pace to chase down or evade players. If he gets fit I'm convinced he'll easily adjust to being a solid contributor to the team and in time if the team improves and as he gets experience he'll be a big moment guy. We're building a very combative physical side to play a finals footy brand but class players stand up in big moments.2 points

I am one of a number of MCC members who are also MFC members and as our MCC renewals are due before September 1st (if you want to attend finals), I am sure that these memberships contribute greatly to the early spike in membership numbers. I was fortunate enough to receive my membership pack before we took off for Europe and managed to sneak my 2017 scarf aboard (un-beknowns to she who must be obeyed). It did a nice little trip to L'Eiffel over Christmas and the vineyards of Bordeaux in the NYE. I am so looking forward to a strong showing this year and with a bit of luck, a Finals appearance.2 points

My understanding/recollection is we weren't all that keen on Kelly and I remember Roos saying Bont was a speculative pick at 4. I think we would have taken Scharenberg at 2 and if he had repeated his injury history it would have been a disaster. Not that Salem has been a lot better but if he's overcome his thyroid issue he probably sits better than Scharenberg. I doubt we would have picked up Cripps because we'd have picked him up at 9 if we thought he was better than Salem. There was talk of Lewis Taylor wasn't there so we might have ended up with Scharenberg and Taylor or Salem (at 2) and Taylor. All in all I'm very happy with where we are as I think Stretch will offer a lot of what Kelly does. Kelly is really an Isaac Smith isn't he? Dom is a terrific player anyway, had a year or two under his belt and Salem is as much an unknown as Kelly in some ways. Would I go back (even including pick 20 in the deal. No, unless I knew we'd pick the Bont and Zac Merritt! But I don't think we would have so I'll sit were we are. All in all it was a win win. It's a little like the debate on Oliver v Parish. I'm happy where we are but Parish will be a very good player and clearly had a better first year than Oliver. Oliver just did things. His clearance work, out marking Ward in his first game, getting up and dominating the second quarter after being flattened against Hawks and that one handed pick up against the Hawks in the last quarter were indications that Oliver could be elite. Please god, give him a tank of an acceptable level and I'll be a very happy man.2 points

Run game is good.. The 2 pronged attack of Coleman & Freeman is up there with the best once they get going. We were ranked 5th in the run game which some people forget & just think we are pass happy team... I read somewhere in 3 of our losses we rushed for under 50 yards. If we can establish the run we'll go along way to winning I think... Shannahan will surely have a well thought out game plan drawn up. I just hope the young defense can get some pressure on Brady & make some stops which is easier said then done! I've been optimistic troughout the playoffs... For some reason I'm quietly confident heading into the SB. Patriots haven't faced a top 10 ranked offense all year.. The highest ranked offense they faced was Seattle & they beat them comfortably2 points

"Oscar played the last 14 games of 2016 and impressed with his intercepting and work in the contest. McDonald was involved in 41 defensive one-on-one contests and lost just 17% (7) - ranked 2nd at the club behind his brother Tom and seventh in the league in players involved in 30 or more contests. Of his 14 games, he didnt concede a goal to his direct opponent in 6 games and cinceded more than two just once. He averaged 6.5 intercept possessions per game, rated above average for key defenders" AFL prospectus. Whilst I question alot of the prospectus rating systems, those stats are vital for those who question Oscar quite often. Clearly in the best 22 and this was in a season where he was often undersized.2 points
