  6. If anyone was in any doubt about his being a drug cheat, his not returning the physical medal because he 'doesn't know where it is' should set your mind at rest and remove any doubts about his propensity to cheat. If the AFL does not demand it back (and preferably melt it down so it does not become an expensive collectors item) it will be yet more evidence that the AFL has no integrity.

  7. Of course it matters whether Jab has returned his tainted Brownlow. It is not his to keep. Physically or in the Record Books. I wish people would stop going soft on this cheat. He knew what was going on...

  8. is it perhaps sadder that he doesnt give a flying f about playing for us ? just asking

  9. Perhaps Jobe's Brownlow is in a storage facility with the extensive documentation of Essendons drug program, fully filled out ASADA forms listing all the "legal" substances taken and letters to Bruce Reid asking for details on Thymomodulin? If only Jobe had looked for it earlier this all could have been avoided! .....Alternatively perhaps Jobe is an unrepentant drug cheat.

  10. Brownlow medals increase in monetary value with age. Jobe's hand-back medal is notorious and may become quite the collectors item. It no longer belongs to him. He should have no ability to gain from it ever.

  11. My son playing in a GVFL final is right footed. About 45 from goal at a stoppage they prepared for him to turn onto his right, he turned on to his left and goaled. For the rest of the match at stoppages they were saying watch him he is a leftie. It makes a big difference if you can turn and kick on both sides. All players should have the NP option.

  12. I agree. I believe I rate ANB higher than most here. His problem will be trying to crack it into the midfield rotation of the seniors. At Casey he is a high possession winner who can run all day and then, when promoted, plays a small forward type role. He needs to take it up a notch if he is going to succeed. I think he can. Good luck to him and I hope he recovers quickly.

  14. ANB as you know has an issue with his knee in the past, got a hit on exactly the wrong spot, nothing major, that was from Ben Mathews JKH did his finger Jeff Garlett got a belt on the nose Dean Kent tweaked his calf on the run at the beginning Jack Watts just a bit of tightening in the back, had it loosened up, from Jack No Nev Jetta or Col Garland, Melksham, Wagner and Brayshaw on light duties I finally got ask to Weed about his size, put on 4kg now at 94kg, they only want him to play at 95kg, matter of building a rig now, his words First up today 6 min run, Tommy Mc (of course) Hogan then Bugg

  15. Yes Saty - that was one of the two questions asked from the floor and PJ made it quite clear that the AFL lays down the rules about when there's a clash and that the club is working on a better outcome. The suggested jumper for Round 1 v St Kilda is based on the women's team jumper. I personally can't work out the one about the genius at the AFL who thinks our colours clash with those of Richmond. Did my eyes deceive me or was the guy who asked the question wearing a top in Eagles' colours? The other question was about China and PJ says we haven't given up on China but our emphasis is more on attracting the local Chinese community to the club. He said that there were problems associated with playing games there in May. Having spent some time earlier in the year in both Shanghai and Beijing and experienced the smog there, I would add that there are definite health issues that need to be taken into account. Glad they're giving it a miss although PJ did say we were asked by the AFL if we were interested.

  18. Hard to believe that it is only 3.5 years since he came on board - he has achieved so much already. Can't wait to see where he takes us over the next few years. From a big picture club view that is as good as extending Hogan's contract.

  21. It's very sad, that this guy's AFL career, is ending with Demon supporters just waiting/hoping for an announcement that he has retired and that we have settled with him.

  22. Perhaps I am naive, but until now, I did not realise that the medal had not been physically handed back. I agree with the above and more so, that the AFL has basically neutered itself through years of inaction on integrity matters. In other words, grow some gonads AFL.

  23. Travis Johnstone was so adept with either foot it was difficult to know which was his preferred (although it was his right I think). And when he was on song his evasive skills using either foot were sublime! And who can forget Bernie Vince's left foot snap for a goal at Geelong in 2015- from around the 50 meter line on the flank. One foot good two feet better!

  24. ABC's Radio National last night aired Martin Flanagan's opening oration at the Sports Writers Festival, which was held in Melbourne in October earlier this year. I found it really interesting. He discusses the Liam Jurrah episode at length towards the end of the session. Touches on many current issues facing society, essentially through the lens of AFL. Discusses the Michael Long sniper hit on Troy Simmonds in the 2000 Granny too. Here it is for anyone interested in listening to it: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/bigideas/politics-and-sport/8013166

  27. I went down for about an hour today, my first training session bar Grand Final Eve at Junction Oval in 88. As Deespencer mentioned, first thing I saw was JKH looking in a bit of discomfort holding his wrist and then being looked at, may well have been a finger but was clearly supporting his wrist and did not continue. 2 mins later I see the trainers run out to ANB where the mids were doing their drills. He was on the ground for a good 30 to 45 seconds but got up and slowly walked off straight past me looking more than despondent, shaking his head. I have no idea what the injury is. At the same time, J Watts walks over to the physio in discomfort with his back...his comment was ``gee there's a few going down today`` and was worked on for what would have been 10 mins. He had been with the backline doing their drills, however returned to the forward group where he seemed to just act as a decoy with little involvement for the last 20 mins of the session. He was running but certainly looked far from 100% in my mind. No joke that all happened in the first 5 mins of me being there and thought geez what sort of a jinx am I. Anyway onto my positives ... the morale and the skill in the backline was awesome. Anytime there was some good work done (multiple times) they were all cheering and encouraging. Very impressed with young Dion Johnstone, nice skills all round. He is a lot smaller than I expected though. Corey Maynard is a lot more solid than I was expecting, a great rig for footy. Hulett has a lovely set shot on him from 50. Robbo still has a nice roost on him too and my word Crossy is just a machine, such a positive role model to have around the group. He looks like he just wants to play! Tyson looks as fit as I`ve seen him. Really enjoyed being there despite the injuries at the start.

  32. For all the chit you cop, thanks for some of the inside info even if others thinks it's sugar coated "throw away" lines to supporters from the players and staff. Hopefully AnB knee is just that, would love to see him pushing the Bugg, Kennedy et al of the group for a spot.

  33. Gee WJ you forgot to mention the question about the 'horrid' white jumper PJ was quite emphatic that the majoirty white jumper is AFL driven, produced a slide showing a jumper design we have submitted to AFL to wear against St Kilda, front is home jumper back all red, only for Rd 1

  37. lol had to google this, never heard of it. Was worried it would be some crazy over-pc thing promoting one's choice of identifying as owlkin, but it's actually "no gender STEREOTYPES December". I guess they had to lose the 'stereotypes' bit in exchange for sounding catchy. Not a bad cause for December, given all the kids who'll get gender-based toys. My boy loves The Powerpuff Girls and my daughter loves this toy CAT truck. Stereotypes be damned, play with whatever toy makes you happy I say! Sorry for the derail. How very Lumumba of me. See what I did there?

  40. Interesting discussion about whether clubs prefer to improve the non-preferred or work on making the preferred side even better. Ignoring the obvious point that clubs could actually do both, I would have thought the sheer amount of improvement available by working on the non-preferred would mean that there is more to be gained by doing this. To use a cliche, it's low hanging fruit. I also hadn't thought about but respect DeeSpencer's point that improving the non-preferred is likely to keep the physiology of the body in better balance. (If you want to see the true effect of being one-sided, look at the relative size of the arms of tennis players such as Federer and Nadal. It's amazing they don't fall sideways.)

  41. Just to let you know, you can add Harmes to the list of competition, he has been training along with Salem as a mid, both been doing a lot of stoppage work

  42. I think ANB has the makings of a decent mid, really hope he at least gets a good run at it. JKH may have threw a black cat through a dozen mirrors whilst running under ladders.

  43. If you let anonymous posters hiding behind keyboards get to you, you shouldn't post on public forums. Thanks I ask the players and coaches questions I post some of the answers, I take pictures and post them, if people like them good, if not their choice I thought I would ask Ben Mathews as he was right there when it occurred to ANB, I posted his answer Hopefully ANB will get a run at it Same with Jeff Garlett, copped a whack to the schnoz nothing serious he was fine when I spoke to him, just wouldn't stop bleeding so they blocked and iced it, able to return Poor old JKH can't take a trick

  44. So Jobe's refusing to give back the actual medal? Makes his pathetic pontificating about how much he was a man of honour and intergrity even more vomit-worthy, if he cut one of Gil's famous deals to keep the medal in exchange for a PR statement. And makes the AFL even more pathetic. To echo the above, I'd give this corrupt corporation (barely consider it a sport anymore) away were it not for the Dees.

  45. The highlight of the short bit of training I watched today was Petracca marking with a group of forwards. He'd take up front spot and a kick would come in and he'd go head to head with some of the other tall forwards, with the winner staying on. Tracc used his strength and athleticism to mark 3 in a row against Hulett, Watts and Weid (I think). There was a lot of cheering and hollering. Then he went against Gawn who had too much strength and reach and out marked him. Garlett was too strong/clever for Ben Ken and JKH.

  46. Great reports from DS and Hell Bent, although the slight injury concerns aren't great. We've seemingly had a pretty good run until now, so hopefully each injury is only something minor or a niggle and there is plenty of time to get over that through the Xmas break.
