  1. Be honest, there wouldn't be one reason you'd accept. For you there is no excuse, so why ask for a "reason" when there's not one you'd tolerate ? GWS lost to lowly Melbourne in round 23 last year and should've made the GF this year. That capitulation at Etihad had no bearing on their 2016. The Bulldogs lost to lowly Freo, who had 3 wins coming into the match, in round 23 this year and are about to play in the GF. Point being ? Don't get so fixated on one match, especially when that match meant nothing and the team was on average younger and more inexperienced than any other for the bulk of the year. It's called "young weary bodies with nothing on the end of it getting a belting". But that excuse won't cut it for you so why ask ? I know the 2 examples I just gave weren't by 100 points, which will be your sticking point, but the magnitude of the loss means nothing in the scheme of things. The next worse loss was by 55 points against Sydney, so we had one 10 + goal hiding for the year and beat Hawthorn in the process. A side that beat us by 105 the year before. That 105 loss now means nothing. And nor does round 23 against Geelong.

  2. Guys, spoke to my contact yesterday. Bottom line is the club has presented Jesses management with a number of contracts. Freo and WCE have both l approached Melbourne about a trade. We have told them to bugger off in no uncertain terms. He did however say that this might be a playing games tactic. Jesses decision will not be based around anything but the go home factor. Club is HOPING and expects to hear something next week. After speaking to him i came away with the feeling that Jesse will be playing for us next year with either a new contract or on the existing one. Anyway I'm ready to be shot down...... LOL. Also said we are still in dialogue with Barlow and club is confident of landing him as a nice up-grade in Matt Jones. Didnt know anything about us being interested in Motlop. Go Dee's

  4. People dont want a 25 year old that averaged 20 possessions and kicked 38 goals in a supposed down year? Dear god. Would welcome him to the MFC with open arms, he is better than Garlett.

  6. His old man played there and Josh was also a Brisbane supporter. In saying that Josh's is very very close to his Mum who is a widow. I know for a fact Josh really struggled with homesickness as it was the first time he's ever been so far away from his mum aince his dad passed away.

  8. One of my favorites at the MFC back in the day...and he remained an MFC lad at heart. I took this shot at the Shanghai demo game against Brisbane Lions a few years back...

  9. THANK YOU! I swear to God, we could get Nat Fyfe and people on this forum would find something to complain about and call him a spud. I would take Motlop any day of the week.

  10. He kicked the same amount of goals as Watts this year (38) yet you consider that "not playing" ? Imagine if he didn't turn up fat in the preseason. So there is the issue of discipline. But he's a high quality talent. If the club is interested I'm interested, because his talent is unquestionable.

  11. Odd post. In the past five seasons, he's played 22, 24, 17, 20 and 24 games.

  12. pretty funny stuff... Rumours and such develop on DL someone adds two and two somewhere and comes up with 5 and posts it as near to as truth somewhere else. Media who trawl ( and troll ) through DL pick up a sniff of nothing and feel compelled to say something as though knowledgeable . DL hear the mumblings of the media and recycle.same. Much like an Escher staircase me thinks

  15. Come on man. Saty loves the club. He talks to players from the club and he gets out amongst it and enjoys airing his views. I say good on Saty.

  17. I for one am happy to hear what Saty has garnered from talking directly to players. Not sure what some people's problems are with it all, it adds to our insight into what is going on down at the club. Much of the interest in this forum is about what people have heard from contacts close to the club, and of course we take it all with a grain of salt until verified by events.

  18. I reckon Matt Jones would've got quite a few games next year had he received an extension, but the FD formed the view that they can secure a better, experienced mid in the trade period (i.e. upgrade slightly with someone like Barlow) and that's why didn't receive another year. Pretty confident he wasn't on the outer with the FD like some of the experts here seem to think. He just wasn't quite as good as some of the names that are seemingly 'gettable' this trade period.

  19. Id rather these rumours that he has signed , more than rumours that he is going.

  20. What a farcical comment. By that logic, if a doctor is responsible for the death of a loved one due to their negligence, you shouldn't be angry because you couldn't have done any better yourself. Are chefs the only people allowed to give an opinion on food? Astrologists the only people allowed to comment on the weather?

  22. I know we shouldn't take into account on these things but his best friend from childhood is none other then Clayton Oliver. Both families are quite close and if the opportunity for Josh to come back to Victoria then i have no doubt we would be in the box seat.

  24. If true, one can feel the free air, momentum and focus it would give the club going into the pre-season and Round 1 2017. It would also increase the possibility of our being able to lure a big fish, should one become available and of interest over the next month. If true.

  26. Whispering Jack on what was once the centre of his universe ... A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS by Whispering Jack CHAPTER FOURTEEN - CATCH THE WIND Our world was defined by boundaries. The beach to the west, the railway line to the east and Dandenong Road, the northern-most point except when we went to school. Princes Park, where we played kick to kick footy in the winter, cricket in the summer and took girls there until the small grandstand burnt down, was the centre of our universe. We played the Beatles, argued whether the Stones were better, discovered Dylan and the beauty of Joan Baez and her voice. And we were always trying to catch the wind. Then one day (it must have been fifty years ago) he died, his parents' only son and just sixteen years old. I still remember his face in faded monochrome; his sad eyes and mine confronting our mortality. The first-time vision of a small black chair sitting low to the floor. Life moved on. I saw little of his parents after that and, in time, the memory of Alex dimmed although I heard they had given birth to another son. That might have been the end of it if not for the emergence years later of two skillful indigenous footballers from Mount Barker WA who became champions with North Melbourne. The fact that they coincidentally bore almost the same surname restored the old memories. Then some five or six years ago, I read of a young junior footballer at AJAX and wondered if this might be a relative of my long-forgotten friend. Today, along with my firstborn son and his oldest boy - a school friend of that young junior's sister- we are going on a journey beyond the boundaries of my old world to Etihad Stadium to watch him play for the Dragons in the TAC Cup Grand Final. The connections are endless. My son was in the inaugural Dragons squad in 1992 until his shoulder dislocated. The club's headquarters and that of the AJAX juniors where my sons trained and played and my grandson now (and I hope more of my grandkids in the future) plays is located at Princes Park, the local ground that once was the centre of our universe. And there is so much more to this story that bubbles under the surface. Sometimes on a warm summer day I go back to Princes Park and when I close my eyes I can still hear the crack of a ball hitting the willow of his bat, hooked high into the air. I run wildly in the direction of its whirring sound but when my eyes open, the only thing for me to catch is the wind.

  28. Well, I haven't commented on this thread since the day it was opened, so with any luck today we can close it. Since Allen Jakovich made the 'calling it now' declaration that Matt Jones had played his last game, Jones has played 5 of the maximum 8 games remaining in the season. So the call has been unequivocally wrong and should be a reminder to anyone feeling like starting a whole thread for no reason except to burn off post-game steam. In those 5 games he was mostly pretty ordinary, with highly visible clangers, but not generally our worst in any given game. The Footy Dept has now made the call that he is not a required player, understandably given that he is not a standout in a role for which we have multiple better and younger options. Just shy of 29 years old, his AFL career is presumably over, though he is likely to earn a few more years at VFL level if he chooses to. Let's not taint his service to the club by letting any discussion about him be shaped by some numbnuts chest-beating from July.

  29. I think Matty Jones got the most out of his potential, drafted as a mature age player he probably thought he'd missed his chance at AFL level but he came in and played a few years and some pretty good game and had a crack in every game he played, even when others didn't all the time. all the best for the future matty.

  30. I'm not so much criticising the decision but you surely see the reasons for keeping him. I stand by my opinion that he would be useful depth next year given his run and spread. We lack that in any sufficent quantities, spread in particular. However, I am also not all that torn up by him leaving, I suspect most who thought he would be good depth would be similar.

  31. Perhaps you'd like to list all the AFL clubs and answer your own question, what do they stand for, what do Adelaide stand for? What about Freo or Brisbane, maybe GWS or Gold Coast. What does any football club stand for, maybe to win a flag or to be successful each year. Maybe we could start up a focus group and see what we can come up with.

  32. So without being on an AFL list you can't possibly be in a position to judge AFL players. better let Carlton know they should sack Brendan Bolten.

  33. We've implemented a totally different and much more attacking game plan and yet only conceded plus 2-3 points a game, i'd say that Rawlings who is in charge of team defense has done a fantastic job.

  35. So in the last few days, both Dr Turf & Steven Stretch have publicly expressed that they have a feeling/expect him to sign a long term deal. This on-top of both Roos & Goodwin recently saying they expect him to stay. Only good signs one can assume?

  36. Don't really have much sympathy for the club but jees I feel for the supporters. Losing him after two years would be heartbreaking

  37. Besides Jesse, Salem and Weideman are the guys that I want signed up ASAP. No fear that Stretch or Vince will leave and I'm sure Frost will re-sign as well. Mahoney and co have done a good job.

  40. I've got to admit I've got no idea how these people fill their days at work anyway. All I know is that it matters that our players are properly developed and we've added a highly rated younger resource; since Macca is still on board I'll just assume the new structure is an improvement on what we had and be happy.

  41. His performance in the Hawthorn match was dreadful and as a result he was dropped, he spent 3 games out of the side and when he returned, he had a 4 goal game and then his form went down again. I don't care if you had a talk to him or not, that may be a significant part of your life, talking to players but it doesn't concern me, or interest me. His form was poor and apart from you, I'd say everyone that watched him thought the same. I happen to like Jeffy and on fact he is one of my favourite players but that doesn't change the issue, he was terrible. My post was mainly tongue in cheek, but you seem to feel that you have to take up the defence of every player on the list, if they receive any criticism on here, take note they aren't your personal friends, they talk to you because you ask them questions. And I didn't at any stage say he conned the FD, they are your words, not mine.

  42. 193cm, excellent tank, solid skills. Kicked 6 in a TAC game once, had over 30 touches in other games. http://websites.sportstg.com/team_info.cgi?action=PSTATS&pID=196134426&client=1-3020-111722-294694-20320265&ocompID=294694 That versatile skill set would be really handy if he made it. Footy smarts is still probably the most important thing in a player and team but versatility has helped the Hawks and the Dogs are another side that use it to advantage. Similarly tall midfielders are on the rise, as is the importance of intercept marking all over the ground. There's a few nice pieces of play in this video:
