  1. Hey guys, We’re just dropping a quick note to let you know that a small group of passionate Melbourne members have started an LGBTQI inclusive support group (similar to the Pink Magpies and Purple Bombers groups) called The Ruby Demons. If you know of anyone that might like to join, please feel free to direct them to our social pages. We’ve been told by the club that they are looking forward to helping us out. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRubyDemons/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRubyDemons Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therubydemons/ We will be representing the club at next week’s Pride match and have some tickets to give away to the game if anyone else would like to come along with us. Cheers!

  2. I read with interest Sam Frost's comments "Frost said playing fast and attacking football suited his game." “It’s been good The coaches have been really positive with me and I’m still making a lot of mistakes, but trying to make less and less each week. “We want to play fearless football and take the game on, and that’s a bit of a strength of mine at times,” he said. “Hunty (Jayden Hunt) has been doing the same thing, so it just comes down to the polish and decision-making, but you’re trying to be aggressive and attacking with it.” It is apparent to me that whilst the coaches obviously want no turnovers, they want the likes of Frost and TMac to take the game on at every opportunity - this will mean there will be turnovers but the coaches are probably going to accept that. The likes of Dunn do not turn the ball over as much as Frost and TMac but Frost and TMac offer much more in terms of offense than Dunn or Garland and that is why the latter two are playing at Casey.

  4. The neurosurgeon said I had the back of a 100 year old, which wasn't nice to hear considering I'm only 92. I've been putting it off for years and decided now that I'm the ripe old age of 30 I should get it done. So far so good.

  5. Gah that game against North I was fuming when we had the wind at our backs in the last down by a couple of goals and Dunn had the ball just holding it up, couldnt be blamed for thinking he thought we were infront his ball movement was that slow. Small rant aside I love the message coming from the coaches. Fearless football is why we won on Saturday. Going into the last looking to win it not to avoid losing.

  10. Vince, although less reliable lately, miskicks about 1 in 20. Hogan has many, many strengths but his long-range kicking isn't one of them. Not sure how even you could possibly argue with that.

  15. He is actually very shy, when he is with his peer group, ie guys his same age, he is ok, just finds it difficult making small talk I also think, because of the media hype, that we are not dealing with a fully formed person, we are dealing with a guy in his early twenties who has been thrust into the public spotlight because he can play footy, still growing up.........we all need to remember how we were when we were in early 20's

  16. Respectfully disagree. he ha been terrific this year i reckon and suggestions to the contrary probably stem from the incredibly high expectations all in the footy community have of him. He is effectively in his second year of AFL football, is still very young, gets the opposition's best defender every time he plays, regularly gets doubled and even tripled teams and often our game plan has involved long kicks to packs allowing a defender to cut across and spoil. yet he he has still been super effective. He is a star now, and within the next 2-3 years will become a superstar. Imagine him at 24-25 with 100 game under his belt. He will be unstoppable. It is critical for our chances of the ultimate success we sign him up and if he plays out his career with us i have no doubt he will be right up there with the very best players ever to play for the MFC.

  17. Bump. I've just moved this thread over from the General board, which doesn't get a lot of traffic. If you or your friends / family are interested, let them know about this great initiative. Good luck Ruby Dees!

  18. I would not read too much into this. Josh is simply keeping the club honest in the early stages of negotiation. Hogan has said he wishes to re-sign, but no deal has yet been struck as such maintaining a market is what any good manager would do. This is standard.

  19. Looks like everyone at Essendon wants to join Melbourne. Even illiterate supporters of the drug cheats cannot resist coming back for more, and like their team are prepared to lie and cheat.

  22. My concern really is that we haven't treated last Saturday as our grand final (as we've done in the past when we've won unexpectedly) and that we'll come out and play accordingly. From now on we need to play as if there's only one grand final in a year and that's at the end of September.

  24. At Christmas I see my cousins' kid,who came out last year or so,and is a Demons fan. He has always been more intelligent and articulate than the other children,so we thought he might avoid football ,but my Aunty(79 year old long time Demon) ,who is his Grandmother ,has got him attending fairly regularly,as she did when I was young. I don"t generally like sitting with intelligent and articulate people at the football ,which is why I go with BBO ,who tries to write comprehensible sentences on here occasionally. So maybe he would enjoy sitting with the Rubys. BBO and I will happily join the group but I must warn BBO claims to be pansexual, ployamourous,i bi-inquisitive, and whatever else may enhance his prospects.Which is all good but he is extremely unattractive and has ongoing hygiene and fungus issues.

  25. Fair enough. However i would say the 'Tom Boyd Precedent' involves paying massive overs for a player who has to yet to deliver anything at senior level and desperately hoping he will become a star in the near future. The 'Hogan Precedent' involves a player who has kicked 50 odd goals as a 17 year old against men in the VFL and has kicked 40 plus goals in his two years playing AFL often rag dolling grown men like Zac Dawson and exhibiting the kind of presence and aura that Boyd can only dream about at this stage of his career.

  26. Surely the Weeds corky isn't that bad and this is a managed way of dropping him for Hogan, whilst saving him from being "dropped", since he can't run out a full game at AFL level. Whilst we are an outside chance, we must play the best fittest side available until the 8 is no longer possible. Will be going to this one and look forward to seeing big Maxy dominate this game!!!

  28. Random stats for the week - wasn't sure where to post this: We are 4th overall for average contested possessions (150) this year in the AFL - behind Sydney, Crows and GWS 3rd overall for clearances behind Sydney and GWS 5th overall for average tackles No 1 for average hit outs (Obvs) Great efforts by the coaches and players. What a turnaround its been since 2013

  30. OK I rarely look at and never really post in post-match threads, but couldn't resist this time. Being at the ground, the atmosphere was unbelievable in that last quarter charge. The euphoria at the siren was about on a par with being at last seasons game at Kardinia Park. I've watched the replay twice now, and could easily watch it again tomorrow and still have a grin from ear to ear. Right from the first bounce, where the umpire fails to execute it, and the camera hones in on him with a smile on his dial, you just knew the camera was then going to go to pan over to Big Maxy offering a few words of advice to the hapless green goblin, all said with a mischievious grin on his face. A few other completely random observations: -Kents field kicking was superb, he really can fire bullets with that left peg when on. -Oliver's clearance work: his ability to get his arms free in heavy traffic is superb, as are his second efforts, see that last quarter where he won a ball in the middle and streamed forward to lay two tackles inside 50. -VDB's second halves in the last two wins have been great, offering a leading target higher up the ground, and the ability to hit the scoreboard. Just needs to bring that sort of impact to his first halves. -The clear coaches instruction early in the match for Hunt, Frost and McDonald to take the game on, and run at and through the Hawthorn forwards. Provided exciting and unpredictable results. -Jetta continued his outstanding season. His vision while in the middle of heavy traffic to find the right option is second to none.

  34. I don't want this thread to end. Having just watched the replay, I'd like to suggest I'm mature and level-headed enough to understand that this was just one game and it's dangerous to read too much into one performance. But maturity and level-headed shouldn't really be integral to the make-up of a passionate football fan so stuff that. We're going to be competing for premierships very very soon. We're going to destroy teams with our midfield. Jones and Vince deserve success at the tail end of their careers and all indications are that this young crop of budding stars will give them a taste. Viney, Tyson, Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw are seriously going to monster other teams. The emergence of Gawn just gives us another dimension and the chemistry he already has with our younger mids is incredible. I love that our flankers and pockets continue the theme of hardness and aggression. Harmes, Vandenberg and Kent are strong at the contest and relish body contact. Even our outside cream seem to enjoy the physical side of the game. Hunt only knows one way and attacks each contest with the same venom as one of his now signature line-breaking run. Stretch should be our weakest player (given his size) but consistently puts his head over the ball. Frost and McDonald make their mistakes but they attack the body of the opposition and take the game on. They will get better and better and the mistakes will be minimized over time as they mature and play more footy together. And, of course, we boast the most intimidating young forward in the game. Hogan along with Watts, Weideman and Garlett give us such a potent and balanced attack. Maybe it's the footy coach in me, but I take equal amounts of pleasure in watching how hard our team works without the ball. So many times upon reflection, Hawthorn would reach the wing, commentators at the ready for a penetrating forward thrust and then they'd be forced to stop and move sideways. Our defensive running was first class. We're responding quickly and decisively to turn overs always getting players behind the ball through sheer will.To have developed that mindset in such a young group reflects very positively on our coaching staff and the mentality of young recruits over the past 3 years. At it also suggests that despite our tender years this is a very fit team. How many times do Hawthorn getting run over like that? If you were to throw Salem and Hogan into that team for Bugg and Pedersen you'd be hard pressed to find a more combative and skilled Melbourne combination for many many years. With Melksham, Neil-Bullen and Kennedy providing genuine depth, the future is bright. I'm not sure we need to spend big bucks on Hurley. I think the quality is there and our challenge will be keeping them together. I can't remember a time when I was more certain about our premiership prospects.

  36. Jackaub I'm not actually stressed. Actually, I'm not even fussed. It's about a team not a player. We're moving on from this lurching from one saviour or another to a team that works as a team and has some capacity for replacement along the way. As with OD. He signs or he's off and we trade. I don't buy the CBA stalling ideas as it's really a furphy and can be accommodated already. He's stalling...and there's a reason. Quite frankly no one is that good to warrant a song and dance. Bit over it personally. Be good if he can buy into the Dees rise. Certainly hasn't yet.

  37. Sometimes it is good to have friends that follow Hawthorn. I have enjoyed every conversation with them this week . It has been many a long year where their condescending tone has riled me. Thanks Dees. I have not even heard an excuse for the loss. We simply beat them.

  38. Regardless of whether or not GNF’s post is legitimate or not, I think the case for his signature at the Dees is only getting stronger. Jesse watched the Hawthorn game from the stands on Saturday and would have been kicking himself that he wasn’t out there on the field. However, the game was a sweet, sweet glimpse into the Dees’ bright future and the club is really creating something special. No doubt Melbourne is building a premiership-bound team and when they do snag a flag, it will mean a lot more than any other premiership that has been won in AFL history. Melbourne have risen from what was an incredibly dark and woeful period for the club and I really doubt Jesse will want to miss out on the success and glory the club is now destined for.

  41. As much as i would love to have him in our team, the amount of $$$ we would have to pay would put too much pressure on the cap for our own future stars. No harm in inquiring.

  43. Would definitely look to give Pederson at least another year. He's been a handy player for us over the journey and he is decent depth considering our lack of versatile talls.
