It was predictable that the quality would fall away late; it was clear this was going to happen with how hard all the players were blowing even at quarter time. I know it's frustrating that we couldn't bury them, but we're the youngest team playing in summer like conditions, and we're ranked 10th. People need to lower their expectations a bit. Grimes was fantastic and was one who didn't drop off - in fact I'd say he lifted in the second half. Looking forward to his 100th next week.17 points

Don't worry Ethan it's in the bag!! I'm confident on this one and I'm sure you will relish the opportunity of being boorish, uncouth, unsporting and foul mouthed toward your fellow employees.13 points

To the muppets in the game day thread who called an end to Grimes' AFL career after his first three touches, I hope you enjoyed the next 29 after that.12 points

32 disposals, 9 marks, 8 tackles! operating at 90% disposal efficiency. Great game by Jack. If you think otherwise I highly advise you to tune out from any future AFL games.7 points

Quality from the AFL website post-match: MEDICAL ROOM Melbourne: Midfielder Dom Tyson required his head to be taped up following a collision with teammate Ben Kennedy in the second term, but played out the game without any problems. Fremantle: The Dockers appeared to get through the loss unscathed. INJURIES Melbourne: Nil Fremantle: Nil Completely ignores that Bernie played the game on one leg, OMac missed 1/3 of the game, and Mundy missed the last 1/4.7 points

Three weeks in a row opposition clubs have used some interesting physical stuff on Hunt. A fair bit has been very ordinary , but most impressed by Hunts focus at the footy.6 points

And by the way, Jack Grimes at halftime - 16 disposals at 93.8%, and leading the tackle count on the ground with 6 tackles.6 points

Fantastic first term. After the slow start we got on top - our disposal has been good, our forward line efficient and our back half has been great as well. Would love to see us keep it up and build on this lead in the second term.6 points

Very good call dropping Dawes and having another runner. We smashed them in the first half.5 points

Great return game. Couple of dodgy kicks, but he worked hard and his tackling and ball use overall was very strong. If you aren't bias, his game is as good as any game we got from Bugg this year. I'm thrilled for him!5 points

Agreed but don't forget Jetta. I can't think of a better small defender running around at the minute.5 points

Doesn't look like it That condescending [censored] Derwayne on reflecting on the teams' relative performances this year of course said GWS even lost to Melbourne. What a t0sser5 points

I get the feeling that one way or another we know exactly where we are with Prestia, and that it was worked out a while ago, so we just don't need to make any noise. It may be that we've said no, or it may be that we've got him in the bag. Or more likely, we've put him an offer and he'll come back to us if he gets another offer that he's prepared to consider. He seems to be playing as if the matter's resolved, one way or another. Whatever has been decided, we have no need to play this out in the media. So we won't hear anything from the club until the denouement.5 points

Jesse Hogan. We're almost taking him for granted. Second year of senior football. It's incredible. Youngest team in the comp with Brayshaw, Oliver, Salem and Weideman still to come in. So much improvement left in this mob.4 points

Jack Grimes is the player who keeps on giving. Rewards the footy department and his team-mates by playing well. Rewards VFL watching Melbourne supporters by carrying his VFL form into AFL level. Rewards the haters by giving them someone to deride. Good Guy Grimes.4 points

I'll echo what Nasher said, and add that earlier in this thread there were many who felt we couldn't win this game. We put that to bed early with some excellent footy and, while the second half was tough to watch, it was to be expected. Our backline held up really well today with Tommy Mac playing the game we want from him each week, while the addition of White was great. Grimes also played a great game which was excellent to see. Lots of other winners around the ground - Hunt, Viney, Gawn, Hogan, Watts, Kent etc. So much to like and we won a game we should have won. Yeah, we could have won by more and kicked a few more goals, but I'll take a 32 point win every day of the week. Bring on the Saints and an end to another hoodoo next week!4 points
