  1. I am working with disadvantaged indigenous youth here in Alice Springs and had sent an invite to the club to see if any players could come and chat with them. It was a late invite, yet the club found the time to spend just over an hour with these kids. Angus Brayshaw and Liam Hullet came out, sat down and talked with these kids about a range of issues. Despite them probably not seeing it, it was a great thrill for these kids. Liam and Angus were very well spoken and generous with their time. As I will write to the club, I can't thank them enough. They gave these kids a real thrill and by sharing their stories they have helped to reinforce a lot of the work that has been and will continue to be done to help these disengaged youth.

  3. While we are all celebrating another awesome re-signing, it might be a good time to offer thanks, and acknowledge the great work of our current list management team. Josh Mahoney, and whoever else is involved, well done to all. You are doing a fantastic job. faulty

  5. I think I've heard this story before. Wasn't our day supposed to be coming about five years ago after we snapped up all those early draft picks around 2008/9?

  6. top of ladder 2015 to bottom of ladder 2016 without a single win.... if this isn't tanking i'll go hee.................why aren't the media all over it lyon has publicly stated their season is shot (after only 9 games) and they'll focus on "development" players a.k.a. they are after the #1 draft pick come hell or high water. they are even cracking connolly style jokes and the media giggle and even draw up graphics on how they can "list manage" the season out for the #1 pick. hypocrites all.

  7. Very good article. Conveniently written the week we're playing Port, the old pump up our tires and then watch us self deflate trick. Lets not fall for that and smash Port this weekend!

  9. Garlett signs to new deal Great news! It is all coming together nicely! Today Roos said he would be 'staggered' if Tom Mc didn't re-sign Just need to add Jetta, Watts and a couple of others OOC this year to keep our merry band together!

  12. I'm from Melbourne and lived 5 years in Freo. I get the pull of both. What I don't get is the whole "home thing." Of course family's important, but there's a thing called skype nowadays and ya mum's gonna hug you as hard whether it's once a year or every day. He's a grown man and there's a world out there to grab by the throat and a life of premiership glory to write. Get it done big fella!

  13. Thought I'd post the pic up from the clubs Facebook page. So great to hear the story from RGRS.

  16. Meanwhile....talking about Prestia Who heads the queue for Dion Prestia's signature? some snippets..... "IF DION Prestia decides to leave Gold Coast, it is becoming increasingly clear he will join a Melbourne-based club that can offer him on-field success in the short-term and for the long-term. " "After six mostly success-starved seasons at Gold Coast, it's believed Prestia would not leave the Suns to join a team that is a few years away from contending. "As such, he would probably be wary of joining any team he perceived to be near the end of its premiership window. North Melbourne is widely thought to be in this position, while even Hawthorn seems to be finally feeling the effects of Father Time. " Welcome Dion your locker is over there >>>>>>

  17. I have said this before but over the last decade it was obvious that our list was VFL standard. I keep saying and I knew we were going nowhere fast until we made substantial changes to the list. Now people saw that as negative i saw it as reality. Substantial change has happened and while we still have holes we now have a list that is AFL standard. My feeling is we are currently a mid ladder team. We have a list that is capable most weeks of taking the fight to the opposition. Now that is a hell of improvement on 2012.

  23. Great news. He has been an insanely good pickup. Traded a late nothing pick and got a bonfire live wire goal sneak who we'll get 5-6 years out of.

  27. Plapp racked up a season-high 25 "really's" in the VFL report this week to go with a solid half a dozen "pleased's". As a key promotion indicator, expect a few to come in.

  28. Is this your young group RGRS ? Taken form the club website, twitter feed. Hope you and the youth you work with get to see the game on Saturday and hope you all see us win. I echo previous thoughts and a shout out to you and folks like you that help underprivileged kids around the country.

  29. I'm outraged! Viv should be captain, Frost should be booting OMac into tomorrow and Spence should be first ruck to let Gawn have a snooze in the forward line. I just blew up my membership card. Does that help?

  30. Hogan will re-sign in his own good time under manager guidance of course. Guaranteed. I posted that Howe was done & gone way before it happened. It happened. Jesse's building strong relationships within the playing group & staff, is settled in Melbourne & going to be a keeper. I'll back this one in.

  31. Loved the boots Garlett wore last year so great to see the players and clubs get behind his initiative and the whole team have them this year. Also, this from the article: “Nev [Jetta] gave a great presentation to the players the other day and it highlighted the great contribution made by Indigenous players,” he (Jones) said. These show the great (deserved) respect by our team being shown to their indigenous teammates and their culture. Just hope Jetta follows Jeff and signs up again soon!

  36. This is an interesting stat form the article: What makes Melbourne’s scoring even more impressive is their spread of goalkickers — they currently rank No. 1 the AFL with an average of nine individual contributors a game. If I recall correctly we are in the top 5 for scores kicked this year. Not bad for a team that in the last few years struggled to kick more than 60-70pts and regularly thrashed by 10 goals!!

  43. FMD! We were rumoured (by nearly everyone) to have paid Mitch Clark between $500 and $600k about 4 years ago and WTF did that get us? I'd give TMac at least $550k for 4 years without a problem. By the end of the 4 years that will be close to the AFL average. Of course, like everyone here, I have no idea of the contract mix at the club so it's purely speculating. He has deficiencies which he is obviously working on, but IMO he will only get better.

  44. The average AFL salary these days is around the 350k mark. 400k is unders for Tom McDonald. Get a grip.

  45. Shocking call. Seeing as the average player now receives about $340000 (?) PA, he deserves more than that for sure. He's our number one tall defender and players like Tom aren't easy to find.
