  1. I watched the last quarter of the pies vfl game and after a nice mark by the weed said to the fella next to me that he'll be pretty special once he bulks up. The fella said he could borrow some of his heft. It turned out to be his dad. Nice fella. I asked if he thought Weed jnr would get a game before the end of the year and he said perhaps one near the end just to give him the experience. The weed snr said he and his son were wrapt at how he was being developed and the club in general. Very positive. He also said Trac will be something out of the box.

  2. That's why we're letting Richmond look at him first.

  3. Spencer on the siren.....kicks a...goal! 19.11.125 to 2.6.18. and for you Weiderman fans out there (like myself). It is Weiderman 4.0.24 to the Northern Blues 2.6.18.

  4. He is the biggest reason we have taken the next step as a team. Take nothing away from other players but gawnys form has helped us in more ways than any other player.

  5. What a find !! 23 Quality Possesions 4 kicks and astounding 19 handballs all to players in dangerous positions to launch attacks, 15 pressure acts 6 Bone jarring tackles! What a player, as I have mentioned previously he reminds me so much of Greg Williams whose handball was deadly, real carve teams upo stuff and young Clayton is goinf very much the same way. I cannot think of another Melbourne player at all in the past 25 years who was as succesful a player with quick and telling hands. Probably te closest was Andrew Obst! His peripheral vision is atounding, just watch him in traffic, he buys time asseses quickly and evn if pinned seems to power out and still hit targets! Sensational Player and one we haven't seen that plays quite like he does !! Sees ball goes at Ball and can kick a goal! Well done Clarry Choo Choo easily my favourite Demon at present!

  6. I watched his 2nd goal yesterday that many times. Best goal of the day by a mile when you consider the whole sequence. The strong tackle to stop the potential rebound and keep it alive in our forward line, the manic hard as [censored] dive to retrieve the ball, then waltz out the back and dribble it through like it was no biggie. Just wanted it more than everyone. Sensational goal.

  8. That 2nd goal was ridiculous. His clean pick ups below his knees at pace and quick give offs have been a good glimpse into the talent he possesses. I love how he and Oliver keep their feet in all contests. Those 2 are so exciting.

  9. Others have said it before, but Weideman training with Hogan everyday can only help his development

  10. Love the sentiments in this thread, but the "Choo Choo" should never ever be referenced again.

  11. Oliver makes Melbourne a better team, it's rare that you can say that about any young player in any team.

  12. Hunt is in his third season on the list (notwithstanding missing most of the first injured) and Wagner is nearly 22. I'd be surprised if these two were treated with the kid gloves that have been applied to the first year players in Oliver, Weideman and Hulett. Especially not on the back of both of them playing their best games.

  13. I'm glad he's happy with it. As a matter of interest, was it a contested mark?

  14. Read this post carefully. Weiderman has collided with McGuiness in our forward line. McGuiness has a suspected broken arm. The Weid is fine. Blues got a free kick, stuffed it and fended off Weiderman high. Weid got a free, kicked it inside to Morris and Morris kicked a goal to take us to a 7 goal lead.

  15. They breed em tough down Church St Biffen. Early morning latte and croissants at the Pantry followed by a spot of buggery in the Cadets and finishing off with a walk on the dog beach with the schnoodle.

  17. Do you know whats really really funny? Collingwood gave up 2 second round draft picks for James Aish yet pretty much got rid of Kennedy for practically nothing. Massive LOLs! Aish is now spudding it up and struggling to get more then 10 disposals a game while also looking extremely soft. And Jeremy Howe playing in defence yesterday made me Lol big time considering he pretty much whinged that he wanted to play up forward when he went to the pies.

  18. BT is by far the worst commentator I have ever heard. I pity for our society due to the fact so many people seem to like him. His audience is the lowest denominator.

  19. I reckon Petracca's second goal is underrated. I know he made it look easy, but that goal summed up his one touch talent and freakish ability.

  22. First opinion related post here, although I have read Demonland with interest for many years. I now question the need to target Prestia at all. An experienced KPD is critical for us in the next trade period. Our defence currently seems our weakness. There's my two cents worth anyway.

  24. Here he is, riding in on his pony to remind others that they're wrong. Do you actually talk about the Dees, Saty, or just comment on other posters and their views? And I'm certain, somewhere back in this thread, I questioned his worth going forward because, at the time, he hadn't shown us much since he was drafted. I'm more than happy to take a slice of that humble pie dazzle is baking. But humble has never been a word in your vocab, Saty. At least others here have the ability to do it.

  27. I'm amazed after yesterday's game that Petracca has come into favourite for the Rising Star, rather than Clarry. Don't get me wrong, Petracca was very good, but Oliver was simply unstoppable! If he keeps it up the award is his.

  28. You can get crystal clear vision of a cricket ball as it cannons into a bat at 160kmh but the AFL can only manage a few dodgy camera angles and a shitty picture to adjudicate from. If the AFL is going to continue with score reviews then invest in the technology that is currently available and adequate.

  29. I reckon Hunt is turning into the player Sam Blease was suppose too.

  30. Geez hunt has wheels!! Main difference i see from speedsters in years gone by is that hunt can take a contested mark and is not afraid to try and win the footy. His ceiling is unknown. Should be interesting to see how far he can develop.

  32. I was blown away by Newton today. I have never been on his bandwagon, and reckon we currently have too many choices in the smallish in-and-under brigade. And he will not depose Viney or Jones or Tyson or Clarrie. But he was in EVERYTHING. At the bottom of the pack. With strength to get up and get the ball out. Cleanly. Sometimes with opponents hanging off him. Saw it with my own eyes. Honestly I didn't think a body of his size and shape could do what I saw today at VFL level. That said, it would be nothing fantastic at AFL and he would be one of many with great skills. I get where you're coming from, but no longer doubt him in a contest - again, the qualifier is 'at VFL level'.

  33. Just watched the game again (it was just as enjoyable second time around) and thought the same thing when the commentry names flashed up. No forcing nicknames, no catch-phrases, it was actually a pleasant reminder of what commentary can (should) be like.

  34. Has our recruiting over the last 3 years or so been better than any other team? I think it's definitely possible. Such a brilliant contrast to the years before that.

  36. Nice pack mark by Weed. Juggled it twice before final grab. I said a few weeks ago he looks like his body is not yet big enough but he continues to prove me wrong. Nice direct kick for goal. And a second goal a minute later from set shot 40-50m out. Did not deviate at all. The Weed is growing strong!

  37. Loved Oliver's game. He is like an industrial strength vacuum cleaner when the ball hits the deck, he just swoops and gathers one touch no fumbles ever then delivers with precision. Oh and he tackles to hurt. Recruiting team nailed this pick.

  38. Just saw a goal from Harmes where Petracca laid the tackle in the centre square, sprung to his feet to sprint forward to make the option and then did the team thing and fed an easy goal to Harmes. So good to watch!

  40. It's getting interesting. At the beginning of the year I was all for a player like Prestia to come to the club and whilst I haven't completely changed my mind, I do think that there are some rather glaringly obvious weaknesses positionally speaking that certain players would be able to fill and I'm not sure Prestia is on of those. The next layer for our squad is to inject one or two quality two-way outside/power runners who are skilled and they obviously won't come cheap. Prestia has a lot of things going for him as a player who excels at stoppages and clearances. But last night all but confirmed we have the best crop of young clearance and stoppage mids within the AFL. I'm starting to think the money could be better spent if there is someone who could really add to what we're crying out for. Then again, I wouldn't complain if we landed Dion. (Jeez Maxy was really getting into him last night in a physical way).

  42. Kennedy had 16 disposals, 9 tackles and kicked 2 goals. Not sure he's really in contention to be dropped.

  43. Had a heap of fun at Metricon tonight. Too stuffed to post too much but just to add something a little different, I thought McDonald did really well against Lynch. Sure Lynch was still one of their best players and quite influential in the first half but McDonald spoilt him numerous times one on one. Likewise I thought Garland despite the horrendous handball in the first quarter did really well when competing in the air again Wright. Hardly recall him being beaten. Like others have said, Hunt is very exciting and the clean hands of Clarry was a joy to watch first hand. Loved Jetta's game and big Max is close to the most influential player in the league right now. Pedersen is playing his role very very well. Petracca's exuberance really lifts the team. I was on my feet riding home his first goal before he even took possession. Can't wait for Salem, Brayshaw, Trengove, vandenBerg and Weideman to add further structure and polish to this team.

  44. I know. When the siren sounded, I smashed the TV, kicked the cat and assaulted my next door neighbour out of habit. What do winners actually do? (beside being grinners)

  45. So I'm currently in the middle of the Baltic sea. It took me 45 minutes and $200 to find a viable internet connection, and all I can say is WTF?! 24 goals? Who are we? What has happened to Melbourne? Are GC just crap? Gawn from what I can tell reading the play on the AFL app, seemed to be involved in everything!

  47. Untrue. We can't rest on our laurels. Premiership sides win it in the middle. Viney, Tyson, Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw are potential A graders. Viney is already there. The great sides have 6-7 stars that can go through the middle. Prestia would offer us speed and further clearance winning ability. Not to mention he's a proven quantity. A lot of those blokes aren't. He'll also take the pressure off a Viney and Tyson. I reckon we've still got room for two more clearance machines. Prestia and Neale would be nice. If we're going to match it with the GWS' and Bulldogs' of the world, we're going to need a very deep midfield.

  48. In a weird way, i hope it does. That way it again reinforces to the playing group that being down in intent (even if only for one game), can be very costly. You need hunger and to give 100% effort for as long as you can. No half-arsed efforts, no complacency, no arrogance, just 100% effort.
