  1. G Sorry for the typoday all. This is a very drunken message from bali. But I will tell you what I heard tonight. Ollie wines had his heart set on coming to Melbourne. Todd viney rang him 2 days our from the draft to tell him we were not going to pick him. Basically was told we wanted to pick him but we're not sure if we could let Toumpas slide. Ollie was gutted at the time amd for 18 months after. He won't leave port for anyone now as in his words it turned out for the best for him. I can not answer if it was Todd or neeld who said let him slide, my understanding is it was neeld as Todd called Ollie to tell him prior to the draft. The rumour out of port adelaide is they do not expect Hamish hartlett to play there in 2016. He didn't turn up for the footy trip, apparently we offered a huge deal amd if it isn't us, it is sydney. Ollie knows Jimmy Toumpas from underage level and he said Jimmy will be a seasoned afl player. As much as he initially hated not being picked by us, he understands that politics played there part, but I gathered that he won't leave port adelaide period. To.orrow the melbourne players arrive, Sorry for typo. I'm drunk. But that's all I can give for now

  4. Thanks for the goss GD. Wonder if I'm the only one who skipped all the Wines stuff and got straight to the Hartlett bit If we land Hartlett I will be stoked.

  6. We should try and trade for genuine class (unlikely to land anyone) or develop through the draft. I'm a bit over the oppositions cast offs.

  9. a series of quotes from sources yesterday: 1,000,000 - 1 shot We're playing Hay List to Geelongs Black Caviar, but still a chance. I've got more chance of being drafted. Its difficult to not dream until it's a definitive no. But don't leave your nuts flapping in the wind waiting for good news.

  10. He's 25 years old for god's sake, does he want to move back in with is mummy and daddy so they can wash his socks for him? He's a fully grown adult and a bloody millionaire at that. Can't believe he wouldn't consider driving an hour to see his parents if it meant a better career move for him. Perplexing.

  13. There's an INTENSE rivalry between Port and Crows. If Hartlett leaves...Port won't be going out of their way to facilitate a trade to Adelaide. ..not this century. Bodes well for us in that respect

  15. I am not going to allow this conversation to be dictated to by bigots. This thread was opened as a tribute to a great Australian and a great footballer. Don't bother posting if you intend to sink into the mire as LG mentioned above. If you do, it could well be your last post here.

  18. JESUS CHRIST. Do you people read what you type? I literally CRINGE when I read some of the suggested trades on here. If you want a player that is CONTRACTED and you are a team that is hopeless, you need to pay overs. Remember 3 things when thinking about trades. 1. Nobody wants to come to Melbourne. 2. Nobody wants to come to Melbourne. 3. You have to pay overs in contracts AND in Trades, when are you are team nobody wants to come to. I would be surprised if we land anyone of his status. Look at the recent history, big clubs or high up the ladder is where they go.

  20. Adam Goodes is now to some, but will truly come to historically represent the most iconic figure in Australian Rules Football since Tom Wills as the nominated creator of the game. As a man of both Indigenous and Colonial heritage, in a game which by many is considered to have some roots in the Indigenous game of Marngrook filtered through a British sporting awareness, he perfectly harmonised those two influences. As the figurehead of all that is remarkable about the percentage over-representation (~ 8 times) of indigenous players in our only indigenous national sport, he was twice awarded the best and fairest player in the land. As some have stated here, he was arguably the perfect fit for our game, and the perfect example of an indigenous talent. Skill, size, strength, speed, endurance, and durability, with a mercurial awareness and an inspirational influence on his teammates, he played for and captained the first club of the modern era, The Sydney Swans. A club from the birthplace of the game, the first to take the premier competition to the whole nation, he won two premierships with that pioneering club, and after decades without the ultimate prize. He remained a one club player, which is still and will remain a measure of loyalty despite growing commercialisation. He was awarded Australian Of The Year for everything that he unconsciously represents (sorry stuie, but footy is at the heart of his award, and rightfully so) and has chosen to represent. Make no mistake, Adam Goodes is monumental to and exemplary of everything that this game is, and strives to be. It's our privilege that we saw him play and create history.

  21. There's not a person in footy that doesn't think Hartlett's not an elite talent, but in reality he's been a tad disappointing due to injury and inconsistency. The club would love him for pick 6, but I'd be amazed if Port let him go. I'm surprised so many of you needed a highlights package to realise his talent.

  22. If we can get Hamish Hartlett for pick 6.. YOU GET IT DONE!! Simple as that. Case closed. End of story. For those of you thinking he isn't worth pick 6 especially with the draft not going deep this year then you are kidding yourselves. Having Hartlett not only adds more depth to our midfield AND experience, but it also ads in another very good player in the midfield to release blokes like Vince, Tyson, & Jones..

  23. Robert Walls buys into EFC coach. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/robert-walls-questions-the-chase-for-john-worsfold--an-ordinary-coach-20150920-gjqnp7.html About Worsfold he says: "Now Worsfold is an interesting case study. As a player he was very good. As a captain he was inspirational. As a person they say few are better, but as a coach I think he was ordinary. In 11 years as senior coach of one of the best-resourced clubs in the country, and with the best ever centre square combination (Cox, Cousins, Kerr, Judd) he finished with one premiership (by a point) and a 53 per cent winning rate. It was also on his watch that a drug culture festered that ultimately ruined the club's reputation. The people in high places at the Eagles at the time will always question whether enough was done to control a dangerous situation. When Worsfold left, the team sat 13th on the ladder. Now, less than two years later, with a progressive new coach, the Eagles are flag favourites." About McCartney he says: "McCartney looked to the future and played kids. In three seasons, 16 youngsters debuted under him. He put tough demands on them and started to set high standards as he knows what's required to build a premiership team. Problem was, some of the oldies couldn't cope. They started to [censored] and the younger ones became affected too. Macca was too tough, too defensive. It's no fun anymore, they whinged. When the captain walked out, the club panicked. McCartney, who had a couple of years on contract, read the play and fell on his sword for the good of the cause'. A fairly convincing set of arguments from Walls. However, I suspect EFC arrogance will make them go for a 'successful' coach. All to our good!

  24. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-19/swans-champion-adam-goodes-calls-it-a-day?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News No fanfare, no fuss. No sign or wave to the crowd. He announced it to his teammates after the game. A football career doesn't get much better than this: Games: 372 Goals: 464, fourth on the goalkickers list for the club behind Bob Pratt, O'Loughlin and Barry Hall. Premierships: 2 (2005, 2012) Brownlow Medals: 2 (2003, 2006) Career Brownlow votes: 162 including 30 best-afield performances (to end of 2014 season) All-Australian: 4 (2003, 2006, 2009, 2011) Sydney Swans co-captain: 2009-2012 * Goodes holds the VFL/AFL games record for the Sydney Swans, and has played more matches than any other indigenous player. * Goodes also won the 1999 Rising Star Award, was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century and captained Australia in the International Rules Series. From the beginning he has excelled. Champion of the game. Adam Goodes deserved to be carried off last night. Best wishes Adam.

  28. Interestingly enough - if you look at Australian of the year - 8 have been indigenous Australian. I would suggest that 4 of them gained fame directly through their work with Indigenous communities. 3 were sportsmen who gained fame through sport and and also worked with/ brought attention to Indigenous issues. The other being the singer with Yothu Yindi. It is pure guesswork either way as to whether Goodes would have gained the traction he did if not for his football profile as their is evidence to support both opinions in the list. As to his football - a champion, no doubt but will always sit in the bunch with the champions like Chris Judd's who few blemishes just didn't sit right with me. To me Leigh Matthews was the best footballer I have ever seen but I wouldn't call him an "ornament to the game" as he also had some blemishes. I use Robbie Flower as my benchmark - a champion football both in skill, application and the way he went about it at all times.

  29. Pies want Aish and Treloar. We should make them have to pay out the nose. Personally I don't give a rats clacker about where Treloar wants to go, GWS can either play hardball or bend over and take it like Brisbane did. Put an offer on the table that would be hard for the Pies to match for Treloar (haven't seen much of Aish, but hell, do the same for him too if he is good enough). Make it so GWS turn to Treloar and say you go to the Demons or the PSD. Screw sitting back and letting these young punks pick and choose who they play for, get in there and do what we can to either get the kids that we want or seriously screw with the clubs that want them.

  31. How do you know what we are doing daz? I think it's all very much kept under wraps at the MFC these days and very little is leaked. In reality, we have no idea who they are speaking to or targeting. For all we know, the whole Melksham situation could be a smokescreen for something else... at least I hope.

Why are we even discussing Goodes here on /in a MELBOURNE Board ? we need a General AFL board or similar I suggest for all the stuff that ISNT Melbourne..and isnt about trade I for one am sick to death of reading about this bloke. I know I dont have to ..and thats easier if not here..just saying

  37. Hasn't always played in the midfield and his numbers reflect that. You have to give something to get something, especially in our position. Hartlett has elite traits and is a proven performer in big games. At 25 he'll still be at a high level when we are ready to be knocking on the door. Pick 6 is a no brainer.

  38. Just as embarrassing as when we picked up Bernie Vince? What'd you say again? 'Excitement level equal to that of getting David Rodan', or something similar? Haha. Club being embarrassing you say? Mate, have a look at some of those posts RPFC highlighted from when we got Bernie. Yours topped the list for embarrassing! You should just hold your tongue on this one and it's the same with everyone else who jumps the gun thinking the sky is falling. You're all being stupidly short-sighted. We won't pay overs and he'll turn out to be better depth replacement than the blokes we've just delisted with the potential to be even better than that. Sadly, not many can see that.

  43. You reckon? I'd sign the deal before Port came to their senses. I'll never understand why people would prefer draft picks over proven players. It's like choosing between $100,000 in cash or a Tattslotto ticket for me. Hartlett is a very good player, of a perfect age. I just can't believe there's any way he will be shaken from the tree, but if we manage it it would be an even bigger KOTD than getting Vince for the Sylvia compo.

  44. Hartlett won't go anywhere, but you'd offer pick 6 in a heartbeat. It would be a steal.

  45. Vince's best year is better than Hartlett's. Anyway you slice it or dice it 27 possessions is better than 22, especially in a B&F year when your team finished 5th and won a final. That's a bit better effort than Terlich's third in a 2 win year. Vince also has 2 x B&F's to his name. It's silly of you to say that Hartlett is clearly the better player.
