No sign or wave to the crowd. He announced it to his teammates after the game. A football career doesn't get much better than this: Games: 372 Goals: 464, fourth on the goalkickers list for the club behind Bob Pratt, O'Loughlin and Barry Hall. Premierships: 2 (2005, 2012) Brownlow Medals: 2 (2003, 2006) Career Brownlow votes: 162 including 30 best-afield performances (to end of 2014 season) All-Australian: 4 (2003, 2006, 2009, 2011) Sydney Swans co-captain: 2009-2012 * Goodes holds the VFL/AFL games record for the Sydney Swans, and has played more matches than any other indigenous player. * Goodes also won the 1999 Rising Star Award, was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century and captained Australia in the International Rules Series. From the beginning he has excelled. Champion of the game. Adam Goodes deserved to be carried off last night. Best wishes Adam.

  2. One of my favorite players. His power as a midfielder was extraordinary. I will always remember how he hurt himself pretty badly early in the 2012 Grand Final after he was looking like winning the game by himself. He then played as a key forward, obviously hurt, to help his team. He had so much influence on that game, through sheer heart, and pretty much won them the premiership late in that game. That shows you the character he had. Plus his brave stand against some disturbing cultural issues, despite the personal blowback he would clearly suffer. He's a great footballer and a great man. His low key retirement is undeserving of a person of his quality.

  3. You reckon? I'd sign the deal before Port came to their senses. I'll never understand why people would prefer draft picks over proven players. It's like choosing between $100,000 in cash or a Tattslotto ticket for me. Hartlett is a very good player, of a perfect age. I just can't believe there's any way he will be shaken from the tree, but if we manage it it would be an even bigger KOTD than getting Vince for the Sylvia compo.

  5. Interesting listening to ABC and SEN yesterday. ABC with one of the journos from the Age and one from AFL Media are pretty adamant that Melksham to Dees for our second rounder will happen early on once trade period opens up, and that it's probably a good deal for both parties. The Age journo's brother is Howe's manager, and he was reluctant to comment on him, but it seems his asking price has fallen by some $2-300k, and he's happy to stay with us - primarily because no one is all that interested in him at his asking price. Listening to SEN, it seems that the story is the same for both Garland and Watts - with the former, there seems to a general feeling that he's explored his options and his contract offer will be higher at Melbourne than anywhere else. With the latter it was really interesting - slobbo said that he's been shopped and there's been absolutely zero interest in him, especially as he has a year to go on his contract, and the vibe is that any club recruiting him would only want to pay him a bare minimum contract not what he's on at melbourne. it seems that, like us, other clubs have no idea what to make of him; they can all see his upside but think he lacks the basic fundamentals to be a regular AFL player. the general acceptance seemed to be that he'd stay with us for at least the next year, if not beyond, as no one has any idea as to where he fits into a side's make-up as he's lacks a true position and seeminly lacks the desire to become an AFL-level player.

  7. Out and out champion and one of the greats. Pick 47, single parent family with little dosh, moved around the country as a young boy to dual Brownlow medallist, indigenous leader and Australian of the year. And one of those blokes that was just watchable, be it good or not so good. You don't have to love him to recognise one of the nation's more remarkable stories. Wish him well.

  8. I'd like to think that our list management team can achieve a much better outcome than that.

  9. Said to be on the outer at Port Adelaide and according to Caro, the Crows and the Denons are interested. Dead set, unless there's something wrong with him physically (or mentally), I would be disappointed if we didn't chase him hard.

  10. Actually it was '97. He got drafted at the end of that year. Had an unbelievable game for Nth Ballarat who won the game. He was everywhere. I remember thinking whoever gets him is going to have a star on their hands and yet he only went for pick 47. Couldn't believe my luck that he ended up at Sydney so I got to watch him playing up here for his whole career. You can argue all you like about why he was made AOTY but obviously he didn't get it for being a footballer, he got it for being a man who fought against racism. He wouldn't have got it without having the profile he gained by being one of the greatest AFL players in history but he also didn't get it for that he got it for his off field work. Why argue about it. Move on. As far as I am concerned the booing of him this year has been the lowest point I have experienced following VFL/AFL over more than fifty years. It's a very sad reflection and indictment on our society. That it grew to the level it did and even continued last night just makes me sad. At least the most divisive PM in Australian history is gone, let's hope things are looking up. Roll on our Grand Final....... Trade Week!

  11. I love how we are desperate to get someone and then we start lowering their trade value or cost.

  12. If the stories are true about the Suns being after a Melbourne player (Howe is one mentioned in speculation) then it gives a nice ring to the possibility of a three way swap with draft picks exchanged to even things up. It could happen.

  13. Sad that recent events caused this quiet retirement. He deserved better. A great of the game. Enjoy retirement Adam.

  14. When I opened this thread I had high hopes that my team's supporters would show their intelligence. My faith has been rewarded. There's always the select few, but I hope there comes a day when we don't have to say that. In a way I'm disappointed he didn't play against us down here again, because we might've shown we have the classiest supporters. Perhaps we might not have, we'll never know. Goodesy, a champion on and off the field.

  15. I'm not a great fan of Melksham as a player, but if all the 'noise' about him coming to Melbourne turns out to be true, I will trust that our current administration see something in him that I don't, and that he will be recruited on a deal that they regard as fair and reasonable to all. If he then fails to add value as a player, I will adopt a 'you win some / you lose some' attitude, and seek to move on quickly. However, I will be absolutely livid if he becomes a Demon, and is then rubbed out because of his involvement in the Essendon drugs scandal. That would be unforgivable imo.

  16. I've rewatched some of Hrovat's junior performances and a couple of his Doggies games. The Sam Mitchell comparison holds up. His composure and ball use is still good at AFL standard and he is worth pursuing. I'd be much happier giving up our 2nd rounder for him ahead of Melksham.

  17. Pick 6 for Harlett & Pick 29 which we use to then ontrade to Bombers for Melksham. Means we hold onto 25.

  21. We have taken several NQR players in the past, either because we wanted to freshen the list and prove players would come to us, or we simply misjudged their ability. We should not be taking anyone for depth, other than perhaps a backup ruckman. IMO we should be trading for established players who would be in our best 22, or players we believe can make it under our development regime.

  23. The CB minimum senior player payments for 2016 are: - base pay $83,240 and match payments $3,605 per match - for 22 games = $162,550 pa. This will be a lot higher under the 2017 CB. How much more each player gets depends on experience, performance and perhaps incentives. Melksham is 24 with 6 years experience, played 114 games and has a good B & F record. Mahoney and Viney will make sure a WADA suspension is covered in the contract. In fact, I would expect the AFL has specific clauses included in all Ess player contracts who have changed clubs. I am happy Goodwin and Macca will make a good selection decision based on list requirements. I am happy that Taylor and Viney will make a fair trade with EFC. I am happy that Mahoney and Viney will negotiate a fair contract that is in sync with other MFC/AFL players of similar age/experience. Nothing to worry about folks!

  25. amazing career. one of my favourite AFL players. Very sad he was booed. The hawks supporters started it. flogs. every other team joined in after he was asked if he thought the booing was racist - he replied "i dont know, youd have to ask them." Of course the headlines the next day were "Goodes booing racist". Media flogs. And to the people who say "oh it was because he dived etc". Half of the AFL dives. Boomer has dived for 400 games +. He is not booed like Goodes was. If youre saying it was because he picked on a 13 year old girl? Her family and Society let her down - she should know that it is highly racist and the fact her guardians didnt go with her when she was escorted out is their disgrace, not his. That people are upset (and i hear this one all the time) because he "incited" the crowd with his war dance and pretending to throw a spear is a horrible reflection on our society as a whole. Also im yet to hear a person who was ACTUALLY THERE have this opinion. totally agree with whoever it was who said the booing of goodes was the lowest point in their afl following life. honestly it was pathetic. I feel a deep sorrow that his career will in large part not be remembered for the amazing player he is and the aboriginal ambassador that he also is, but for the controversy that followed him, caused by inaccurate media reporting and racist flogs looking for an excuse to be racist.

  26. Yep. As for the injury history that others have raised, he's played 66 of a possible 71 games in the last three seasons including 22 of 22 this year. Not a factor.

  27. Our massive interest in Prestia is because he is a gun. We could snare Danger (not going to happen) as a FA and use our first pick on Prestia and then we're probably a finals side next year with those two fit and firing. Stop listening to player managers. I put them in the same boat as real estate agents. They'll lie all day to ensure they get the most money for themselves.

  28. I think the beauty of this, and same thing with Jesse last year is that the player is able to develop a really strong understanding of the types of movements they should be aiming for, what's going to help their footy but also their durability long term Christian will have learned a lot about footy, his body and the life of an AFL player this year, I wouldn't be against a mandatory 12 months on the list before playing for all new draftees, as exciting as it is seeing them come straight in, the benefits we've seen with Viney, O'meara, Martin, Crouch, Hogan and now Christian are obvious. The kid's a star.

  31. If Danger was any chance to come here, he would've done it for the same money last year when the best possible draft compensation was offered to the Crows via our trade offer.

  33. Time for posters to stop seeing the trade market as a "unless their a superstar we don't want them" opportunity. Our elite will come from the draft, like all clubs. A Melksham, like a Vince or a Lumumba, is to support, fill gaps on the list and hope for a bargain. Dangerfield, Judd like trades are once every five years, and if you ain't a successful club, forget it

  38. Given both Jack and Angus Brayshaw were both drafted as mids, were similar draft picks, are a similar height and both have shown leadership potential at a young age, I figured it may be interesting see how their first years compared Jack - 2010 Games 18 Disposals 343, Ave 19 - 9 kicks, 10 handballs Marks 63 Tackles 75 Clearances 44 Goals 8, Assists 3 Angus - 2015 Games 21 Disposals 267, Ave 13 - 8 kicks, 5 handballs Marks 54 Tackles 99 Clearances 37 Goals 5, Assist 17 Given we rightly laud Brayshaw as a future 200 game player and hopefully one of those to help lead us out of mediocrity, it is good to remember just how good Trengove was. It is bizarre to think that if Angus were to follow the same career path as Jack he would be captain of the club in about 18 months time.

  39. Agree on Hardwick. He's an interesting player - a real X factor with boundless possibilities if handled well. His marking is very good for someone under 6 feet tall. Not sure if he's the type of player who fits the Roos mould.

  40. I wish Jordie all the best for the future. He's been a great and loyal servant of the club over the last 6 years, unfortunately (as mentioned in WJ's review) the game has evolved past his capibiities as a player. I remember meeting his dad on a tram en route to the footy a few years back. Aside from having Jordie's red hair, he said that his son loved playing with the Dees and always gave his best effort, never leaving any stone unturned. Even today, I would find it hard to disagree with that. He can certainly hold his head up high after giving his all during a very turbulent era for the club. Cheers Jordie.

  41. Well, he's officially been delisted. Honestly, I think he'll be the only player I'll be sad to see go this off season. Loved the way he went about it, always gave his all and kept trying to improve his game. Unfortunately, the game has once again changed, and his set of skills, imperative only 5 years ago, is on the outer now. Thanks for all your hard work, Jordie. You did all you could to get the most out of yourself, and we can't ask for any more than that. I, personally, will always hold you in the highest regard due to your attitude and application. Hold your head high, as you were one of the few who can stand tall having been through one of the darkest periods ever experienced by a football club, and not being disgraced (even in 186). All the best, and hopefully you'll continue to be an upstanding MFC person.

  42. Speaking of hand wringing, does anyone remember how that Frost, 40, and 55 (or whatever the numbers were) for 23 was seen on here? It was scandalous that trade - then it wasn't, and now it is an example of what a 2nd round pick should be able to bring consistently...

  43. They have no right to have a fit. It's exactly how the system they helped create was designed to work. Gives clubs a chance to keep or get better compensated for their best players. I think Adelaide should definitely match the offer.
