  1. Training was on again, same drills as per the last few weeks, ball movement, ball movement, ball movement, with designated kickers and more and less defenders Tyson and Jamar only ran laps Whole squad very upbeat, the skills today were very good, with the normal one or two errant kicks and handballs Viney looks ready to tear somebody apart Jeff Garlett arranged a performance by Indigenous dancers at the end of the session, lot of footy dept and admin staff attended The boots that Jeff is going to wear on Saturday are cool, put a pic on Twitter later Complimented Fitzy on his game, said he is really enjoying the role down back, same with Aaron vandenBerg, really enjoyed the role he was given Any questions as per the norm Pics on Twitter Demonpk later

  2. Viney and Jetta both participating in full training. Dom Tyson and the Russian running laps. No Dawes, Salem, JKH or any others on the latest injury list. Matt Jones also in full training.

  3. Thanks TTWL... as the human "mynas" on these forums seem to have all but driven TDI off Demonland, any and all training reports are appreciated by those of us scattered far and wide outside of Melbourne.

  4. Matt Jones will probably pull out - I honestly can't see him playing after that whack. I hope Riley holds his place. I feel sorry for Newton. He wasn't great but I thought he earned his place for another game. Rapt that Viney and Jetta come in and that Tyson has been given another week. But looking at how Port play at their best, we need quick negating players to counter their manic forward surges. Which, by the way, I reckon it was Roos who was the first coach to figure out how to counter their attacking flair. I am a huge Bail fan but his flaws are glaring, so it can only be his negating role that keeps his place. I don't know what I feel about this game - could be anything.

  6. I haven't been driven off, will still do the training reports, and that's all, the rest of the topics bore me now, same subjects discussed 1000 ways Of course spoke to both Nev and Jack, neither sure at the moment, both said the team thing, will be hard to replace a fellow player who played their role and the team won, but of course both want to be named, especially Nev

  7. It's definitely imminent. I can feel it too. Won't be too disappointed if it happens on the QB weekend when I'll be present. First time at the MCG since 2008. Can't wait.

  8. Poor ol' Riley SO happy to have Jetta and Viney back. Fresh legs will be key here, so glad Tyson is getting another week. He'll be ripe to rip it up against Collingwood hopefully. Hard to complain about the team changes. Realistically everyone played well last week and don't deserve to be dropped, but you don't leave quality on the table. I'm scarily optimistic, which is a bad sign. Might go stand outside before the game and hope a bird pees on me again. Was great luck last week.

  9. In my opinion both Riley and Newton had better games than Bail and Matt Jones last week (even though I acknowledge their defensive roles on Johannisen and Murphy respectively). So while I was a bit surprised both remained in the side, I think it must be a horses for courses decision. People have correctly pointed out that Port are a quick side and a hard running side, so to counter that you need good runners in your side. But another factor is where we are playing - not only will it be mid 20s but from memory it was quite a big ground. You have to have players that can cover the ground over four quarters. So while I think Riley and Newton were more deserving of a game, they are both slow and don't cover the ground particularly well. This to me seems the motivation for the selection.

  10. Reckon we need the leg speed Bail and M Jones provide against the fast running port. And that is what has kept them over Newton and Riley. Salem, JKH, kent will more than likely overtake them when they're back

  11. If Bail is a better option and playing a defensive forward he better bloody learn how to kick goals from set shots. He is ok on the run, but seriously, he is one of the worst set shot I have ever seen. I've never felt confident when he has a shot. Pigdog should not have been dropped, Play as a sub, do a great job and then get dropped... Poor decision from the coaches imo.

  14. That photo looks like someone took the left and right sides of Jobe Watson's face and swapped them around. I also like how Fletcher's hand and the guy two spots to the right are the same hand. It's been photoshopped to show the KIA logo and copied and pasted.

  15. They made this point last night on AFL 360. Said he is nothing like the outside player that was recruited from Adelaide. Has become a real weapon under Roosy's watch, with a touch of agro about him. And, he really seems to be enjoying himself in the new role. (Almost comes across as the mischievous kid who is managing to get away with his mischief, with that cheeky grin of his!) Great to see!

  16. Wouldn't really surprise me to see Viney with the vest, straight swap for Riley in the last q. He can come on and just rip in, build up to fitness. Tell you what, Riley, vandenBerg, Jones, Brayshaw, Viney... talk about being hard around the contest!

  20. He is very good. I tempt fate to propose he could improve anything but at 100kg I'd like him to plant some decent hip and shoulder action protecting jeffy and generally intimidating the defense Legal brutality protecting the ball carrier Spread fear

  21. In a hearbeat. Won't happen though. I know every other club will be thinking it, but I'd target GWS. They would like the appeal of a player like Howe, whose spectacular hangers will grab attention even in NSW media. Coupled with our first pick, we could get some serious value. I'd ask for Coniglio and Plowman. A dream result, but I think a realistic thing to ask for too. GWS won't dream of offering up Shiel, at reload or Devon Smith. I expect them to offer Palmer to anyone who'll listen though.

  22. You would surely not play Tyson unless you were 100% convinced of his fitness. Given the performance we've just come off, I don't see us as being in a position where we need to take any unnecessary risks. I get the impression that this ultra-conservative approach is what they've taken with Viney, based on his listing as "available" in the injury list as well as TDI's comment that Jetta said that he (Jetta) and Viney had been trained on a programme with a view to coming straight back in to the side. Take the ultra-conservative approach with Tyson and get him fit. Likewise Dawes - given that he's slow to begin with, I can't see the point in playing him if he's not able to run at 100%. In: Viney, Jetta Out: Jones, Bail

  23. Good post. And you've nailed it about the confidence. We need our playmakers to really "take the game on" ... ... even if they make mistakes !!!!

  30. Because it's you asking, I have chased it up for you and Picket Fences. Apparently Roosy and Goody had good long meeting about toump and they are considering dropping him from training. Need him to get more game time so he improves during the week. Reckon he needs to be saved for Monday to Friday duties......... What a dumb [censored] question.

  35. Matthews: Initial reaction has so much to do with the jumper the player is wearing. Jed Anderson was apparently a superstar after a pretty limited showing in a hand full of games this year. Hogan already touches the ball 4 more times a game than the much-lauded J.Cameron (that's taking this years career best avg). Matthews is just lazy - remember the comments re: Clark? He's not providing a comment on the players quality, but analysis that has no basis in any reality.

  42. Titus O'Reilly's (i find him humorous and on point) preview. The last line nailed it for me, ahah: Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide (TIO) 2.10pm Demons supporters will be surprised to learn their team is playing in somewhere called ‘Alice Springs’ this week. It’s an exciting time for Melbourne supporters. Their team is just ‘not very good,’ a big step up from ‘an embarrassment to all involved.’ Last week, Jesse Hogan showed he could live up to the hype. The Demons should be offering him an embarrassing stupid amount of money right now, like Tom Boyd money. What’s happened to Port? They were once the talk of the AFL with their new stadium, loud crowd and INXS intro. Hang on, none of these things relates to the team on the field. Oh, I see the problem. Port to win this one, only because winning two games in a row is something Melbourne hasn’t done since Scandal’Us were in the charts.

  43. Agree with almost all of that also fndee. Exciting isn't it. The only point I disagree with is I reckon tmac is every bit as good as neitz and may end up being better. Only 22 and huge upside given his desire to improve. Love that he has continued to attack and if his disposal continues to improve he will be even more damaging

  44. It was a brilliant era when Schwarz and Neitz burst onto the scene. For a short time we had two Hogans, one at CHF and the other bookended at CHB. They were the two best young key position players in the country. Unfortunately the moment was fleeting Fast forward twenty years and whilst McDonald doesn't have the talent of a young Neitz he may end up also becoming an All Australian CHB and Hogan, well, he could be anything. Just need a couple of Jesse quality young mids and the future will be bright
