  1. Went to training today with my lovely lady and walked back towards AAMI with JKH Asked him how he ended up on Wingard during Alice game, said it is a team rule that if you end up caught from your opponent, you are to take the nearest match and stick with it till a stoppage in the forward half allows a safe changeover, Nev Jetta was on the bench so JKH stuck with Wingard till Nev came back on...team first He is really excited about the QB game, I said the team is so close to clicking and winning on a regular basis, he said (paraphrasing) "don't worry we want it now, we aren't waiting 2 years" Other notes, Nathan Jones hopes Macaffer goes to Dom Tyson and Dom Tyson hopes he goes to Nathan Jones, they both had a good laugh about it The training session was excellent, nothing but ball movement and stoppages And Christian Salem thinks Chile are a good outside bet for the World Cup

  2. Second week in a row he has blamed the umps for the loss. Says Robinson was deprived of getting the ball when the Geelong runner touched him. Should have got a free. Only problem is the umpire was holding the ball ready to bounce, time on was going and umpire looked around to see what happened. The umpire did not then bounce the ball and call time back on until the incident was over and Robinson was in position. How then Mick did that prevent Robinson get the ball when it was not even in play? Whinge or deliberate lie Mick, what is it. Next he picks the Menzel passage against Rivers. On the 7 replayed angles I saw Menzel grabs the ball and ducks clearly into Rivers who is waiting to tackle him. Menzel created the situation and the rule is play on or holding the ball when a player deliberately ducks for the free. Umpire got it completely correct. Again Mick is it just a whinge or a deliberate lie? MM is clearly feeling the pressure. IMO opinion he is coaching purely to get the record from Jock McHale and needs a 1 year extension to get it. His behaviour to me is pathetic and disgusting and nearly all journos would agree.

  4. I think the appraisal justifies the criticism he received on here; he was not up to scratch last year, we knew it the club knew it, but I guess some posters on here just weren't prepared to accept it. He's playing good football this year and that's all anyone wanted, he obviously listened to what they said and accepted that to continue he had to change. Well done, some like Gysbets just weren't prepared to.

  5. That feedback would feel like a slap in the face. It seems to me he had two choices: to work his ring off to improve, or decide footy's not for him and chuck in the towel. Credit to him for taking the harder but more rewarding road.

  6. Having Rockliff is a nice dream and probably equal with Tyson, but the difference is I doubt Brisbane would have coughed up their first rounder as part of the package. It's not just Tyson, but the receipt of Salem that makes this deal look so sweet; we'd most likely have missed out on that if we'd dealt with Brisbane.

  7. No they couldn't. We use the NEXT available pick. If we have picks 9 and 27 to be forced to use pick 9 one of the first 8 teams have to nominate him. If we don't want to spend pick 9 then the bidding team must take him. If pick 10 nominates him we can get him for pick 27.

  8. First mentioned in the list of best players is generally accepted as that sides best player. Given SA won HH has also assumed he was BOG. Reasonably fair assumption I would think.

  9. Sure Malthouse having a weekly sook is irritating, but what pi$$e$ me off more, is the bloody Scott twins. Whenever they think their teams have been aggrieved, they always swing around in their chairs, arms raised and mouths wide open. Worthy of academy awards those two.

  16. A case of a trade where everyone can win, we would have won with either trade and would have known no different. Brisbane managed to keep their best player, GWS got an upgrade to Pick 2 and get a kid who looks the goods. Finally we get Tyson who just has been better than I expected and Salem who looks polished, great foot skills and has footy smarts and nous. Trades don't always have to be about winners and losers

  20. This one was never in doubt in my mind, but should keep a few of the panic merchants around here quiet for a bit. Without meaning to give a backhanded compliment, this is the first time that Dunn re-signing has given me that *yessssssss* feeling. He definitely took the scenic route, but has developed in to a strong, reliable and important player. His promotion to the leadership group shows where the club thinks he is at, and I couldn't be more pleased. Well done.

  22. I got an email from the club with a special offer whereby you could nominate junior members for nix. Two nieces and three nephews later the Dees have 5 new members. Great initiative from the club and young Edward seems pretty happy with his membership. Will get these guys along to a game soon. Thier parents have little interest in footy so these guys might end up with an interest in footy and the MFC because of this initiative. 33. Are we so different? Roo's took a swipe at the umpires after the bulldogs game. Many on demonland went ape [censored]. We won the free kick count 24 to 13 yet posters on here blamed the umpires.

  34. Add to that Redleg Geelong got a couple of shockers by the ump in the last ten minutes of the last quarter. What happened when Hawkins was kicking for goal. Ump called play on as he was moving in to kick, no one seemed have heard / seen a warning to get on with it or when Daisy Thomas knocked the ball loose after the Geelong player marked in the forward line,. Either one should have been goals. I think Mick has selective vision.

  36. CAM PEDERSEN was told at the end of last season his career was all but over, with Melbourne far from happy with what he had produced in his first year. Called in for his end-of-year review with coaches and members of the recruiting team, Pedersen was told how disappointed the club had been with his output. The tall utility played just 10 games in his first season, after being traded from North Melbourne for Jordan Gysberts and pick No. 61 (Taylor Hine) in the 2012 trade period. "They said if I didn't pick up my game this year, even though I had a three-year deal, I wouldn't be here [in 2015]," Pedersen told AFL.com.au. "They felt they'd been dudded. "They told me they weren't fussed if I was here or not and said my destiny was in my own hands." Id call that a spray. But credit to Pedo. He could have not taken it on board and it could have wrecked his confidence more but he took the words and as people said last week he is a different player and unrecognisable. He now realises his 3 year deal isnt a safety net. Credit to him and lets hope he keeps his form up. Its a shame that some other players didn't take some other advice on board. I reckon Todd was one that maybe said something. He is head of recruiting and wouldnt mince words.

  37. I read nothing in the article to suggest it was a "spray". It seems to me that it was just an honest appraisal of what the FD thought of Pedo. It was a horoscope moment for sure, it was frank, honest and direct. It left Pedo in no doubt where he sat. I doubt there was any ranting and raving, shouting or anger. Just "this is what we think". It was nothing more or less than would have been given to every player at seasons end. There is a great scene in Moneyball where Billy Beane is talking to Peter Brand and asks him to role play the dismissal of a player. Brand starts a long winded explanation to the imaginary player and Beane cuts in and says "Peter, they are professional sportmen. They just want to know where they stand". It's what Pedo got.

  38. Good post. I feel that dave mission and his team were very unfairly critisized early this season. It seems there was a decision made not to rush players for round one, but to manage them for the maximum amount of games possible. The injury list was never overly large, however it was the players on it which caused angst. Credit to the fitness guys, comparing our injury list to that of say hawthorn or collingwood shows how well off we are to have these guys at the club now.

  40. It's frustrating to all that the matter has taken so long to reach a conclusion but, catching up on some reading, I note the quote at the end of this article:- New ASADA boss says show cause notices could be issued 'within weeks' That amounts to a substantial body of potential evidence in a case against the clubs and the players involved. I'm not surprised that an understaffed organisation looking at two codes is taking its time. Most of the criticism around ASADA's process appears to be unwarranted. Strangely enough, Essendon which always maintained that the truth would come out doesn't appear to have been particularly co-operative. The investigation would surely have reached a much sooner conclusion had the Bombers and their agents, staff and drug suppliers not lost, misplaced or forgotten the contents of whatever was injected into their players.

  41. Half way through the season.....regardless of form and ability, what I find absolutely amazing especially when compared with previous years is the number of MFC listed players who are available: Sam Blease, Alex Georgiou, James Strauss, Daniel Nicholson, Dom Barry, Jordie McKenzie, Aidan Riley, Dean Kent, Luke Tapscott, James Harmes, Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Fitzpatrick, Viv Michie, Michel Evans Within that group we have backs, runners, mids and maybe a ruck/forward in Fitzpatrick. And all but one have played senior footy. Last year players were getting a seniors run simply because there was no-one else. This year we can replace those injuries which will occur with like types. And players who don't deserve a call up don't have to be. Unbelievable what Roos and his team have achieved in half a year.......

  43. good point. He had been important as that lead up player. Thought he was good last week on long leads. Also roos obviously likes 3 big guys up there so perhaps you're right. I hope do now (have changed on this as I was pretty down on him early but reckon he's been good in last 5 games or so)

  47. Situation with McDonald is a little different to Dunn and Frawley unlike them he is not a free agent. It would be harder for him to leave as he would need to be traded. I think he will stay , his agent may have been waiting for the new AFL funding situation to become clear. Now both Him and the club now know how much money is in the pool. I went to training today, if this guy was a good kick he would be all Australian he does everything else very well.
