  1. Don McLardy put a whole heap of his OWN money in to the club, which is more than I can say for some of the crass morons that criticise him. Mclardy was responsible for Jimmy coming back to the club and without him there probably wouldn't be a club. It's assholes that never put their hand up, or do anything and never put their own money in, that usually scream the loudest.

  2. I don't know if anyone else caught the interview (I don't know if there is a link on the SEN site and 'm on my iPhone so can't post link sorry), but I have to say what a nice bloke and passionate supporter our man Don is. To recap, they discussed briefly: - said that when Jim passed, the club tried to show a strong and united front but it was a really difficult period for everyone; - The tanking scenario, which he highlighted went as long as the Bombers supplement investigation; and - Ox pointed out that also the Energy watch fiasco also. Things they didn't discuss but what he had to deal with as a President: - He had Schwab as a CEO. - He had to go on his knees to the AFL asking for money. - Liam Jurrah incident. - Neeld as coach and our shocking run on the field. Bloody hell, what a mess to deal with. To finish off and the thing I loved the most about the interview was his passion for the club and optimism for our future. Good on ya Don!!!!

  3. That is a different point. We are discussing here that he is ATM in our best 22. Yes if we wanted to win a premiership, he may not be in that team. I would keep Dunn ahead of Bail, Nicholson, Tapscott, Pedersen, Byrnes and Jamar just for starters.

  6. Short term he may be a risk but if we look at the long term he may be the best prospect; if the club can get him right, and God knows we have had a few feet problems so we should have the experience, he could be the bargain of the draft. I don't think we can expect a pick 9 to dominate and if we get a few games out of him then that would be ok. If we have to wait for the following year it may be worth it. Let's face it if we are going to have to rely on a first year player to help us win games we are stuffed.

  8. To be fair to Don, I don't think he had any aspirations to be President of the MFC and only took it on because Jimmy was deteriorating rapidly before everybody's eyes. Good on you Don for putting your hand up and I will never criticise anyone who is willing to taking something on and giving it their best shot in very trying circumstances. If I ever bump into Don at the footy I will express these thoughts to him in person and give him a big pat on the back!

  11. I get sick of posters crucifying our players.....Dunn is the perfect example 2013 averages Disp marks tackles DT points Frees for(overall 2013) Frees against(overall 2013 16 3.7 3.3 68 13 8 Now you can take stats anyway you like but Dunn is one of our players that seems to care about the result ....I know that he does have some brain fades but tell me one of our players that didn't during the past three years..... He takes most of our kick outs and is a terrific kick whether he is forward or back...... The bravado which at times can be over done, at least will stick up for his team mates which has been lacking in our team for a long time..... He is not the worst on our list......just the current whipping boy since Cale left......Get off his back...

  14. Don't know much about Sheed but Scharrenberg is a man-child. Will trust you guys to make the correct decisions. German names usually go well in Red and Blue. Schwartz, Nietz, Mueller are three I can think of.

  15. Dunn is a better defender than Nick Maxwell, Michael Firrito, Will Schofield and would fit in well with Ross Lyons game plan. He is no star but he would be considered a decent 3rd/4th tall in one of the better sides in the league. We have other players besides Dunn who are way off best 22

  17. I defend anyone against unfair attacks, they became less unfair as time went on, failures amassed and crises ensued. I posted that I could see Schwab being removed before his last fateful 3 year extension, but we all know what happened after that. If all you have got to do on here is gnash your teeth at McLardy, Schwab, and those that may have been mean to you - why bother? Do you really have time to waste on this hate? We have got half a midfield now, another kid coming in 5 days, Paul effing Roos as coach, and what do you want to do? Fight with all those posters that made you feel inferior. Build a bridge and come join us in the present at some point.

  18. I feel that Dunn would slot quite nicely in the 22-25 of a few top 8 teams, especially coming into finals season when choosing between an 18-20 year old to a 25 year old utility. he would definitely be able to play a role in many teams due to his flexibility. For example: this season Taylor Durea played alot of games for hawthorn, but i feel that having the option of Dunn would have been a prefferred one. collingwood were lacking having another forward target that would be kicking goals, and also got games into youngsters, but having said that if they had the choice im sure they would have played dunn up forward. probably could have been a role player for sydney in finals time aswell. I feel that people either expect too much, or just dont like the fact he is a bit of a [censored], football wise apart from a few errors (which everyone in our team is prone to) Dunn can be a very solid role player, and probably even a little bit more.

  21. The question is whose rat is it?Shades of Darling, Buddy, Garlett etc. If this guy really has serious foot problems we could lose the mid we want as another club takes the mid we want. It could of course be us pushing the story hoping to get him or another club like the Pies taking another player first and hoping he slips to their second pick. I am glad I am not a recruiter as it is really a very difficult job. That said I stand by my well known views that BP killed us. From all reports most seem to agree that Scharenberg is injuries aside one of the best in the draft. Personally I haven't got a clue as I haven't seen anything other than highlights videos of several players and we all know how flawed they are. As I have said previously, you could make a highlights video of my football career and make me look good and I was very ordinary. There is so much more to being an AFL footballer than a short video of their best moments. Good luck Dees I hope the boys we take all have good careers with us.

  23. In one corner, you have the Malthouse assistants who were basically his sycophants, who were doomed to failure. These guys got great references from the great man. I heard the Neeldy wanted 350k at Carlton in 2014 and the board laughed. Also, heard that many in the club asked "what have we done (appointing him)" a few days in to his tenure. Also heard that several staff approached Connolly before round 6 in Neeld's first year seeking his removal. Connolly's reply was "finances will keep him here". Whether the word "unfortunately" was used at the end of his reply, I cannot rule in or out. As I have said long ago, the "Brett Lovett No Lollies No Coaches Box entry" story will be legendary for years to come" as will the "Mitch Clark wearing the wrong color shoe laces to training so go home" story. In the other corner, you have Alan Richardson. Have a look at what Malthouse has said about his one time assistant publicly. Something tells me that someone who had the guts to stand up to Malthouse (Richardson, Buckley) is the type of guy a club wants in its corner.

  24. I agree. I've seen Sheed once in that televised Under 18 Championship game where he not only blitzed for WA and kicked four goals but he appeared to me to be the prototype player of the type that fits perfectly into the Paul Roos mould. Yet most phantom draft writers assume that he's a lock for the Eagles' pick at 11 and he's virtually untouchable by any of the clubs that had an earlier selection.I say we go for the best player available at 9 and if it happens to be him, then we take him and stuff the Weagles. That's the last word from me on the draft until next Thursday. I'm not going to look at another phantom draft or even read anything about the prospective picks until we've made our selections. I'm over it all. It's in your hands now, Jason Taylor - good luck!

  25. I don't know why we wouldn't take Sheed if Scharenberg doesn't slide.

  26. you are obfuscating a little here asada originate the infraction. quibbling over who publicly issues it is just that asada(wada) have a recommended penalty protocol. If they think the sporting body has not met that protocol they appeal it (and have done successfully)
    2 points
  27. That sums up my position pretty well BRFE. I'd love Scharenberg or Billings to slide but doubt that will happen. I've been on the Freeman bandwagon for some time but feel he's the kind of pick up that will go one of two ways. Either his pace and inside ball winning skills will translate to the AFL and he'll become a star or he'll be a bust. Can't see him playing 100 - 150 solid games. Acres was my pick for the MFC competition. Not quite sure why but he's had me interested for quite some time. Tall, versatile and skilled. Good combination. Anyway, I've actually committed to going to the draft so I get to tick another thing off my nerdy footy experience bucket list!

  29. Im surprised some have such dislike for the logo. Is it the logo or Schwabby they dislike really here. The logo/crest has some decent heraldry about it. Its eminates that we werent created yesterday that theres history and pride to the club. I like it. Quite frankly I prefer it to some cartoonish ideal of us. Thats fine for Newspaper banners etc and for the mascot but emblem are emblems and supposed to impart something. The current logo though fairly new evokes tradition. Im fine with that. Maybe when we start playing like them then we might concern ourselves with looking like them

  30. nothing..life goes on.. Christ the way everyone goes on about this player or that ... its hilarious. Hawks lose Buddy...did they fold ? its about a team..not any individual. The TEAM has to work. We've spent yonks trying to get this player or some other as our saviour ...all for what..sfa !!

  31. I certainly have him in our best 22. Of course i can see his limitations but i reckon he is our most underrated player (if Demonland is a reliable gauge). Of course he is in our best 22. When was the last time he was dropped? Has played 117 games since his debut in 2006.

  33. If you go I'll go to. Back and forward we are top 8 material, our midfield will improve significantly, we have a competent FD the players will have complete confidence in and a game plan which will suit the players strengths and a coach who will bring the best out of them. We also have a CEO that will bring respect to the club and I think that helps the players generally because they feel good about the place. I'm bullish and I think we will surprise many next year. We've had a terrible coach for the last 2 years and whilst that is acknowledged I don't think people understand the impact that had on the playing group. We are much better than many think.

  34. Not a draft watcher so no idea of his talent other than being top 5 in most phantoms. My questions are obviously how serious are the injuries, how long is he likely to be on the sidelines & is his talent that good that we can afford to wait? If we're worried about any of those we can't afford to pick him.

  36. Yep, it's hard to take a clear view at the moment. The one big difference is the communication level from the coach already, that's a big plus. Stone talked about people skills and that's what he brings with Roos. It's not man management, it's people skills. edit: man management to me sounds more like manipulation, Jeans had great people skills at the Hawks. Roos has that, Stone very definitely has that and I know Allison does.

  37. Thats right. He was only outmarked once in 46 contests. The heirachy like him. Supporters on the whole don't. His best is tremendous. His worst is bad. And has a lot of brain fades IMO

  38. A lot of this is not correct. ASADA doesn't issue infraction notices. They instruct the sporting bodies to issue notices. The sporting bodies are also the ones who determine penalties, not ASADA. The ability to strip points from a team is what is provided for in the Code. If the AFL was instructed by ASADA to issue an infraction notice against Essendon, that would be one of the available penalties. They've simply decided to already issue it. As for the 'squibbing it' thing, WADA doesn't just step in and set new penalties. The decision is the AFL's; if WADA doesn't like it, they can appeal it to CAS, but to succeed they have to make their case that the AFL's hasn't done its job properly in penalising Essendon. That's going to be a tough case to make given that, for this saga, Essendon's copped a $1 million fine as well as a total loss of points in a season, including the ability to play finals. ASADA imposes nothing, so you're right about there being no relationship between ASADA penalties and AFL penalties. ASADA doesn't set any penalties.

  39. I read somewhere that dunn had won 45/46 one on one contests (may have been marking contests) inside the back 50 I actually thought he had one of his best years last year.

  40. Im not sure what I think of Dunn. But Im not sure what I think about a lot of our players after the last 2 years. But, given that Neeld had possibly the worst game plan Ive ever beheld, its hard to judge. We were kicking to packs and up the frikn boundary line and seemed to just have no forward run. No free players meant our disposal effeciency was always going to look horrible and everybodys disposal count would be down. It mightn't ALL be because a player cant kick. I wish there was a stat for "free player missed". Im not sure "clanger" would include long kick up the boundary line when a player was inside and free. Not that we seemed to have ANY of those in 2013. I honestly believe a decent game plan with an injection of midfield depth could make us look 100% better. Even Dunn. Which may at least get us into the middle of the ladder

  42. wada article 11 i believe sue here is a quote from http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/opinion/wada-wont-budge-on-disputed-drug-ban/story-fnd2ikbn-1226627386391# "If three or more players from any club are found to have committed an anti-doping offence, that will expose their whole team to sanctions under the world anti-doping code, to which both the AFL and NRL subscribe. Under Article 11 of the code, if more than two players from any team are found to have committed an anti-doping offence, the ruling body of their competition is required to impose an "appropriate sanction" against the whole team, which could include loss of points or disqualification from the competition. An athlete does not have to test positive to be found to have used a prohibited substance. Article 2.2 of the code says that "use" can be established by "any reliable means" including admissions by the athlete, witness statements and documentary evidence."

Until the following year's pre-season when it becomes - "could never get a run at it, had an interrupted pre season and never really got going, had series of niggles that made it hard to get the base down, it made realize the importance of having an uninterrupted pre season, was always playing ctach up, a frustrating period etc etc" (see comments from any number of players, most recently Trenners presser
