Lets finally be ruthless motherf###ers and take him if he is available in the PSD. F##k em, F##k em all.10 points

I'm having the same problem I have whenever i go into a bakery. So many tasty treats on the shelf, do I get something with a cream filling, go for a fruit tart or satisfy my chocolate addiction, decisions, decisions. A week ago I would've been keen on a clearance machine like Crouch but with Tyson, Michie and to a lesser extent Vince coming on board, the maturing of Viney and talk Roos might put Trenners back in the coalface, we can now probably afford to look for a more rounded player. I still want someone that can win contested ball but they need to have other attributes as well. Big bodies around the stoppages seems to be the way the game is headed and Tyson is our only extractor over 185cm. Sheed is 187 and Acres is 190, both can play inside and out and both are high production mids with good foot skills that can hit the scoreboard. Acres was playing injured during the champs and was a bit underwhelming while Sheed tore it up. Personally I prefer Acres, 3cm taller and 4 kg heavier and quicker to boot. Some explosive pace from the contest would be nice and Freeman definitely fits the bill here, my concern with him is he can have very quiet games and isn't a consistent ball winner. Taylor and Hartung are both quick off the mark but we already have 7 guys on our list 180cm or under, that's nearly 20% of our list, not sure we need any more just now. The other option is to go for someone who's more outside, Kolodjashnij, Bontempelli, Lennon and Salem would be the main contenders. Bontempelli is interesting at 194cm according to the AFL site, playing Watts in the midfield mightn't leave room for a Bontempelli. Lennon definitely has some weapons, is a good size and is versatile. So I think I'd like Acres, no Freeman, or maybe Lennon, no Acres, definitely Acres. Oh bugger it, serve that guy while I make up my mind.9 points

I've actually noticed how little we have heard from him since his appointment and I've loved it.6 points

Why? This is the best time of year and usually the only time that Dees supporters enjoy! Don't be such a downer...embrace the fantasy!6 points

Sigh. It was a joke on the connection between David MacKay, Mr. McKay from South Park and his catch phrase: "Drugs are bad... mmmkay", and you saying you offered him bikkies. It's a tough life being a modest, ridiculously good looking comedic genius... and anal moron.5 points

Well we've got a spare spot in the midfield and pick 40 if you and Bernard wanna get real cosy.5 points

Not change for me. I haven't seen any of the U18 play so I'm just going off description. But with Viney and Jones I I just don't see short-arse inside mid as #1priority. Freeman description more attractive.5 points

Taylor Adams has shown his hand by disrespecting many suitors and failing to see the way of the AFL world. Paul Roos builds his teams not only on skills, but attitude, humility and character. Pick 9 will get us a good kid that can spend 80% of his time @ Casey, honing his skills. A no from me.5 points

Stu, I agree that Gawn is by far the better prospect long term, but last year he looked such a long way off being capable of running out a game that I just can't believe he'd be able to turn that around in a single pre-season. Gawn being completely and utterly dead on his feet was a big contributor to us nearly losing to Western Bulldogs in that game we won. Not his fault, just reality. Minson *slaughtered* us in that quarter when big Maxy had been pretty good until then. I'm also making the assumption that Jamar will struggle. If he finds any sort of form he'll push ahead of Spencer. I don't love Spencer by any means, I just think he's the Steven Bradbury style last man standing in our ruck division. I see him as the only ruckman with the fitness and strength to take on the work at present.4 points

Caution about our prospects is understandable after recent history. And we haven't had any really good players come onto out list for a very long time. But I was surprised how good Mitch Clark was in early 2012 - he is genuine star quality and if he can get back we've got a lot to look forward to.4 points

Depends which angle of the West Coast/Collingwood deal you look at. West Coast see it as getting in Yeo for nothing really as with pick 11 they'll still get the guy they want which tells me they have keen interest in either of the West Australians in Sheed or Acres. Collingwood on the other hand seem keen enough to move 5 spots forward and take their pick out of whoever slips from Aish, Billings, Scharenberg or make sure they get their man whoever that may be.4 points

How can he go to the PSD when he signed a contract last year after we offered him big bucks? The total dis-regard for logic in this thread is unbelievable sometimes.3 points

Bad Call! Its pretty obvious that MFC has decided that Josh will be the spokesperson throughtout the draft/trade period. Notice we haven't heard from Viney (List Management) or Taylor (Recruiting) either. A Smart move by the Club to have just one person to front the media and give a consistent unified view on what is happening.3 points

I'd rather he was relatively quiet and I think he will be. In recent years our coaches and admin have been coming out with stupid statements like 'we'll be the hardest side to play against' etc. Roos won't do this and I don't believe he'll come out and temper expectations either. The footy will do the talking next season.3 points

How is Cross 'no longer required'? We picked up a replacement for Sylvia and two kids with 14 games experience. Cross would be more than handy, and he would be cheap.3 points

If Sylvia doesn't improve his attitude Lyon won't play him, If he does improve his attitude I will be even more pizzed that he played 10yrs for the Dees and gave us pretty much nothing.3 points

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-09/phantom-draft In this recent phantom guide from the AFL web site they have him as 184cm and 85kg. And they have him at pick 9 "Freeman is the bolter of this year's draft having quietly crept up on a few of his contemporaries and he has done it through being dynamic. The strong-bodied midfielder finished the year well with the Sandringham Dragons, is a reliable kick, and loves to win the ball at stoppages and then burst from them. Showed his running prowess at the combine when he was ranked quickest for the repeat sprints (23.62 seconds), second for the 20-metre sprint (2.82 seconds) and 10th for the beep test (level 14.10)." Don't know if the draft combine results have already been posted but he did well: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-04/draft-combine-results3 points

Clark was unbelievable when he was the only target in the forward line and was getting double and triple teamed by the opposition. If we ever have Dawes, Hogan and Howe up there as well, he will be kicking bags on a regular basis.3 points

Just as an aside id be curious to know how opinions of possible draftees/trades might have changed from before to now, having seen the types that ARE coming on board ! Be interesting3 points

Knightmare has updated his draft and look who he has put us down for: #9 Melbourne (Via GWS Activated Compensation) - Nathan Freeman (VIC – Mid)Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 16/06/1995 Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons Style: Luke Shuey Player comparison: Range: 5-20 Profile: Freeman is an absolute dynamite midfielder. He has that Patrick Dangerfield and Chris Judd type explosion inside the contest. He’s an above average contested ball winner. He’s a guy who has that rare combination of inside game and extreme explosiveness with his pace, agility and sidestep all as good as you’ll see. In addition to that explosiveness Freeman has a real hardness to him with the way he attacks the footy and contest. Also features of Freeman’s game are his ability to take grabs overhead and his 1v1 ability. He can push forward and hit the scoreboard in a big way particularly enjoying those finishes on the run streaming into goal or running to the 50 and going long for the goal. As well as this he’s also an excellent field kick to a target with the ability to hit his targets over a variety of distances knowing his limitations but also at the same time doing some big damage. In short this guy has all the tricks and other than Jack Martin is that only other midfielder I see as a genuine game changer. To improve Freeman needs to firstly find the footy more consistently, he can find 25 disposals one game and less than 10 the next. He can also continue to improve his hands in close and become more of an inside distributor by hand instead of just jamming into onto his boot in close, so he does need to be more aware of what is around him in traffic in those situations where he can’t just burst away. Additionally he also needs to add more of an outside game so that he can find more easy ball outside the contest to boost his disposal numbers.3 points

EVERY EFFING YEAR MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB, YOU SMASH MY HEART TO PIECES. AT THE END OF EACH SEASON I HATE YOU. I LOATHE YOU. BUT I STILL EFFING LOVE YOU. And just as i tell myself to not get excited about the next season (2014) you go and BLOODY SUCK ME IN ONCE AGAIN WITH SOME SOLID EFFING TRADING AND THE ATTAINMENT OF AN AMAZING COACH (Roos) and coaching staff (the rest) Bring on Round 1! Funny thing is the Eagles need to add pace to their mids but are said to be looking at Sheed, I'm not convinced by that either. I think his biggest problem in close is that he doesn't have clean hands and that's maybe because he doesn't see the ball well enough. He likes to have some space to see the ball coming at him and at AFL level he won't have the luxury. If you watch our new boy Tyson he sees the ball well, has clean hands, creates time and makes good decisions.2 points

I am a 50 year veteran demon supporter (yes I do remember Neil Compton's goal - I was there as a 12 year old with the old man, my name dees2014 is conceived to remember the 50th anniversary) so yes I will be around for the next one. A fiftieth anniversary present would be nice i.e. a premiership. I must say I have not been so optimistic about the Dees since the height of the Daniher era when he got us in the Grand, and before that when Schwartz, Neitz and Lyon were at their height in the mid 1990s - still I believe our best team since 1964. I think what Roos is building is the organization, business model, coaching staff and list to be better than any of them. We are being set up for long term success. We should rejoice in the ride ....and yes have a modest side bet here and there to demonstrate our support. The guy at the betting agency said he had had a number of calls about the Demons in the last 24 hours.2 points

Funny how Sydney, when Paul Roos was in charged recruited a kid called Josh Kennedy who had only played 13 games with the Hawks and battled soft tissue injuries and couldn't break into the line up, went on to then become one of the best Inside Mids in the competition. Tyson has played 13 games, battled a bit of injury and plays the same role as Kennedy.. Connect the dots??2 points

Evans is OK. Good speed, can butcher it by foot, makes the odd dodgy decision, but has some upside. Hasn't had a decent run of it due to injuries. 2014 is his defining year.2 points
