For me, Col was the standout player for the season. We expect excellence from Nat Jones but Col lifted his game in the face of huge adversity. He has improved every aspect of his game and its a credit to his character.

George Stone has an extraordinary record for development, and is a huge bonus for the MFC. He IS a lock for the MFC, and my source is the only person in his world who is a little unsure how they'll cope with him being back home full time.

While the God complex of this thread is a bit over the top, I do still randomly grin to myself when I remember that we landed Roos.

Why don't you take your "Special" comments and start your own thread about the team and its weakness and leave my thread for the posters who want to discuss Col Garland's words of Resolve. The thread is about Col Garlands words of character and strength.To show that when faced with the pains of constant criticism and loss that a player like Col is able to say I will not break, we will not break and we will keep fighting. If you want to debate that then go ahead don't make broad moronic statements about the teams ability and whether the MFC should be publishing players review from 2013.

Colless and the Swans have a terrible culture problem up there . the Swans are on the slide ,CLEARLY. Almost feel sorry for them.

Yep ... let's shed that nice guy image and start stepping on a few toes. We should become the Ryan Crowleys of the competition both on and off the field. I particularly like that sort of attitude on the field, especially during the coming period in which our players with talent are developing. If we play with that persistent in your face attitude week in, week out, then the 15 goal floggings become a thing of the past and we start winning games we were never expected to win. If a large percentage of our game is played in the head, we've been headless for the past seven years. Now we can start again.

He has to stay in any role he can see himself doing. Paul Roos has to stay a Demon for a while. It is imperative.

I found it interesting in the 'Elite' section that they listed; Kurt Tippett, Adam Goodes, Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, Kieren Jack. I agree, all of these guys are elite, but, I felt they missed an obvious choice, in my eyes at least. Jared Mcveigh, probably, in the top 3 most under rated players in the league. Just look at his finals series. Along with that he has outstanding leadership qualities and is just an all around great player. Glad to see he got the nod for a back flank in the All Australian team, much deserved.

Apologies - I know there's a Paul Roos for coach thread already, but, having just watched OTC tonight, and having observed the slander directed towards him by Richard Colless and others at the Swans tonight, I felt angry. Paul Roos is our man now. He's no longer our potential coach. He's now our leader. Get behind him. I love the man.

One of the big advantages of Adams and 10 for 2 is that it allows GWS to effectively swap two players for one. They need to start pruning their list back to normal levels, as we've seen with GC17, and still being able to being in top-end talent could play a big part that.

It's that attitude that shocks me. People salivate over Daniel Cross or picking up other fringe players who we have a slim to nothing possibility of turning into something, and yet here we have someone who has skill, power and is a threat to opposition teams we are simply 'not fussed' to let him go. As much as I feel let down by Col at times after he has teased a few times with some cracking games only to be filth the next, I still feel we have let him down just as much after employing such inspirational & successful coaches in Bailey and Neeld. If anything I don't blame him for wanting to leave but would love to see him have one year under Roos.

I reckon it is a disgrace. He is a legend of their club, those peanuts ought to show some respect. A lot of short-memoryism going on with Swans fans at the moment.

Col turns up and gives his best attack on the footy. He fails to run back the other way a lot which is something he wont be able to get away with under Roos. He is peaking physically and will play his best footy in the next two years barring injury . i dont expect him to do anything but contribute and maybe improve his defensive running by 50%. We all love to shitcan Sylvia but he's a good ordinary footballer who will display Brownlow ability in 15% of games. He is probably our most experienced player at the club-would be madness let him go unless we are sure of landing some very big fish.

There is only one problem with gettin Dew and that is How could we fit him in the Demonland Banner with the others??????

Colless has been an outstanding servant of the game. I think there would have been a very short queue for the Sydney Swans Presidency in 1993. However Colless is currently behaving like an absolute idiot. Roos sought advice from the AFL Coaches Association on contracted assistants and was advised that an assistant coach could leave if offered a promotion. Dew applies for the Senior Assistant/Next Senior Coach job and the Swans won't let him be interviewed. As for the player the Swans have offered him a 2 year rookie contract which he can either accept or choose to go into the draft where any club can take him. On a positive note Colless has fired Roos right up!

Started out as a tall winger. By 1984 was a wonderful centre half back. In 1985 and 86 he cam awfully clost to winning the Brownlow (he should have won in 1986 - was clearly the best player of that season, but missed out to Williams and Dipper by 1 vote). After that he became a great utility player and was probably, along with Terry Daniher, the best true utility I have seen. Could play anywhere along the goal to goal to line and also on the ball. Set up the play beautifully and thrived in state games. A great player.

Sounds as if the experience requirement of the role was downgraded after luring Roos. Lucky break for Mahoney as it means his relative inexperience counted against him less than it may have otherwise. To draw a footy analogy, he's a top 10 draft pick rather than an established star and he's being given a chance to shine. Good luck Josh.

Happy with this. He is worth more to us having us develop him than trading him at low value in the market place. It's also vindication of the Roos impact. As Port have shown, an important part of the path forward to achieve success is to have wanted OOC players resigning and backing the Club.

So in effect it was the money or the box and we got the money. I suppose the extra $1m or so to keep was our preferred option in place of a priority draft pick which might have come at 10 or 19. Nevertheless, the decision is every bit as ridiculous as the tanking outcome. I wonder if Mark Evans was able to keep a straight face when he made the announcement?
