FFS how can you not put any blame on the coach? Of course we have some players who aren't up to it, and of course we are young and inexperienced, but we have a decent forward and back lines to build around, and a handful of potentially good mids. We are NOT this bad, we weren't under Bailey (when the team was just as inexperienced and had no Clark, no Dawes, and Jones in lesser form). The game plan makes no sense, the match ups are bewildering, our set up is strange, and pre match selection is completely off most weeks. Most importantly, there is no intensity, no hunger, no fight, nothing. Our players clearly have lost all confidence, all desire. It is on the coach to resurrect that. Instead, he's destroyed it week in week out. So how the hell can our coaching panel, and our senior coach who has turned over nearly half a list since he's come on board, not take accountability? A new coach will not turn us into a finals team over night, but FFS, we can't be any worse.16 points

Okay so great win by the scorps. They were certainly the better side on the day, although they had a very poor first half of the 1st and 4th quarters where Geelong scored about 8-9 of their goals... Their tackling was excellent, that was the big thing I noticed, especially after watching the Dees pathetic attempts at tackling in the Freo game. Couch, Rodan, Spencer, Casey's 3, 13 and 10 (sorry, don't know their names) they hunted and gang tackled and it was great to see. I was there with my wife so I can't say I was paying 100% attention but here's a rundown of what I saw: Spencer: A lot of taps but a bunch of them went straight to cats players, got around the ground well, took some very nice big marks, but made some pretty basic errors too. Not worthy of a call up IMO. Pedo: Wow. Seriously, if this guy doesn't come straight in for Sellar then someone's on the drugs that killed River Pheonix. He hit the packs hard, rebounded well, and showed something you don't often see in the dees backline. The balls to take the game on and kick long and well. He took pack marks, peeled off his man and linked up, and a number of times he made 2nd or 3rd efforts which were goal saving tackles or bumps. Seriously, I was shocked how good this guy played. He did concede a few goals but often that was because of quick turnovers from the middle of the ground he couldn't do much about. He also cleared the backline with pinpoint 50 metre kicks on a number of occasions. Definite IN for next week. Couch: In everything early and in many ways kept Casey in the game in the first half. His contested work was bloody good, tackling and harrying and bumping and harassing and just pushing the ball forward. Definitely one of the Casey's best. Blease: Sam would have only had a handful of possesions and I'm not sure if even one of them was effective. In the 2nd term he danced around three defenders on the last line of defence, desperately trying to take the game on rather than handballing off to one of the four teammates standing within 15 metres of him then hit a pinpoint pass to a cats player all on his own 45 metres out directly in front of goal. It was possibly the worst individual effort I can remember seeing on the footy field. To make matters worse, he got cleaned up after disposing of the ball and was groggy as all hell and didn't come back on. Clisby: Was really impressed by this guy. Found the ball in close and used it well in space. Seems to have footy smarts and is a courageous player. Tynan: Wasn't involved much at all, did a few good things but didn't notice him much. Taggert: Really good game from this guy, broke the lines a few times, seemed to play in the middle a little bit and got a few clearances. Like Clisby, was strong and courageous and really took the game on. Rodan: Massive game, was very influential. Laid a bunch of excellent tackles, got a heap of clearances, was a real catalyst for the run of goals in the third term and played a leadership role, constantly encouraging and directing his teammates at stoppages. Macdonald: Was good, dependable. Didn't see him make a mistake (which was a change from his AFL games!) His kicking seems to have improved. I'd like to know his effectiveness stats because I didn't see him miss a target by hand or foot. Kent: Was involved a little but nothing he did was terribly impressive. Work rate seemed high but not a lot of impact. Barry: Played well, was encouraging. Drifted in and out of the game but showed he is up to the standard of VFL firsts. Was very elusive and had a few scoring involvements. Fitz: His ruck work didn't seem that great to me but wow did he make the most of his opportunities up forward. He really used his height and speed well in front of goals and was on the end of a few ripper passes from his teammates, including Hogan. He crumbed and snapped goals, he goaled on the lead and is worthy of a call up this week. His sealer goal was might impressive. Fifty out on the boundary with Geelong having all the momentum, he lined up sideways and snapped it through, a seriously clutch goal. Should take Gawn's spot IMO. Hogan: Okay now I know people are keen to hear about his game today and for the first 20 minutes of the game i don't think he had a touch. However, just before quarter time he dragged in a big pack mark over three Casey players and although he hit the post with the set shot from then on he was on fire. He took marks on the lead, he crumbed and snapped goals, he tackled ferociously winning a number of free kicks, he was seriously impressive. What excited me was that he was sooo smart with his leading. He knew instinctively how to outposition his opponent and then to lose him on the lead. With a bit better delivery he would have have 8 goals. He also led right up the ground on numerous occosions and delivered effectively, setting up a few goals for his teammates. Not only that but with fifteen minutes to go and the Cats playing all over the Scorps, he was placed behind the ball in the backline and took a number of intercept marks, and tackled and harassed really well, stopping one or two shots on goal that would have seen the cats hit the front had they resulted in goals. He also directed his teammates down there and told them when to slow it down and chip it around when geelong weren't manning up but when they did man up he was demanding, screaming they kick long down the line. Wowee, seriously this was a captains game. He was the best player on skilled stadium today and given he is only 17... we seriously need to find a way to start getting the footy inside fifty next year because this guy will do the rest... Okay that's all I can remember and the GP is about to start sorry if I missed anyone but go Scorps!10 points

I have something to confess. I was a Neeld fan. When he came in and said that he was going to make this team the hardest to play against I believed him. This is the guy we desperately need, I remember thinking. I even blindly believed him when he dropped Moloney first from the leadership group and then to Casey. Rivers went as well but I knew it was all about the future and they were part of the poisoned past. Of course the alarm bells started to ring when Trengove and Grimes were made co-captains, but I convinced myself it was a great move that will pay dividends by the truckload in the future, never mind adding enormous pressure onto a kid who has yet to play good consistent AFL footy. Somehow the Byrnes/Rodan FA pickups made sense to me, and I just knew that once we got rid of that bad egg in Moloney our culture would be soooo much better. Of course when I went through the team in the pre-season the complete lack of midfielders was a bit of a concern but we had a plan. We were training really well, our intensity was up 30% compared to when that complete dud, Bailey was in charge. Afterall the massive increase in money spent in the FD would just naturally translate into wins. I just knew it and had complete and utter faith. Now, some 18 months down the track it's like I've suddenly woken up in a 'Lost' episode after missing several series thinking WTF is going on, this doesn't make any sense and you lot have nfi either. We haven't gone backwards, this club has been completely dismantled. I honestly hope we've hit rock bottom but I fear who we'll lose at the end of the season. I've got to the point where I hate watching us play, it just makes me angry and sad. The glory days (ha! everything is relative) of Danihers team being labelled a bunch of soft front runners are just a distant memory. [censored], at least we occassionally made the finals. Now my biggest fear is whether we'll still exist in 5 years time, because if we continue like this we won't. How could I be so blind and stupid? I apologise to anyone who I've argued against over Neeld, I was spectacularly wrong.10 points

Rumour is that Melbourne Football Club is actually an elaborate reality television series designed to measure football supporter's breaking points. All other supporters are actually paid actors as are clearly the players, coaching panel and board...8 points

And do we need to point out yet again that Clarkson, Bomber Thompson and Hardwick all had media and fans screaming for their heads at various points with the same "the sky is falling" mentality that is prevalent on these boards right now? Their club boards had the fortitude to back in the process they had embarked upon and reaped the rewards. I really hope ours have the same faith and stoicism.6 points

When you look at MFC, asking how you fix is secondary to clearly identifying all the problems. By God, there seem so many issues. While I want Neeld gone ( and have so since round 1), the issue of finding a capable and competent replacement won't be easy. This should not stop Neeld be sacked tomorrow. The bigger issue at MFC is leadership....At all levels. IMO the 4 most important positions at a Club are President, CEO, Coach and Captain. Now we won't get a good coach until there is a competent full time CEO appointment. And we won't get a competent CEO until a functional and energised Board is in place. The soilution to the black hole MFC has dug itself is up to the AFL and how much they fear such a squalid outfit like MFC compromise the integrity of the competition. If they are prepared to right our ship then great IMO, the only reasonable path forward is the AFL to install a team of commissioners to run MFC (replace some or all of the Board) and then drive a revitalisation of the Club from there. As a starter would the AFL make it enticing for Jackson to take to role for 18 months to handover to a full time CEO then. The league must move promptly and then it needs to providing backing an security for a new coach ASAP. A top appointment with an early announcement may the best way to retain what few quality players we have. It's a really hard and difficult turnaround and MFC is not capable on its own to do it.5 points

None of that is true. He's weak, squibs contests, pretends to be aggressive, can't play anywhere properly, and isn't really that good of a kick. Nonetheless, at a time like this threads about individual players aren't really fair or appropriate.5 points

Disgusting. I have never seen such a terrible display from our club. There are some good players in this team, but they are failing so badly, as a team. Freo show us up even more than most, because they play as a team, not a few talented individuals who are forced to compromise their owns skills, and play as individuals in a rabble called the Melbourne Football team. Today's match is showing it is time to call an end to the latest experiment - meaning Mark Neeld must do the right thing (if he is not forced to by others) and step down immediately,as head coach. He has tried, but it seems failed. More,he has failed to such an extent, the club can no longer stand by while he develops and brings players on. In this day and age no one has the luxury of the sort of time frame he needs. Thank you Mark, but it's time for us all to move on.5 points

There is nowhere for the club to hide now...These performances were happening in 2008 In 5 years it has actually got worse. Fact. If Satyriconhome decides to have a go at the "Negative" supporters this week, he will get an earfull I have had enough now...Hawthorn & Collingwood in the next 2 weeks....Who the hell is going to pay money to watch those Deaths, and that is what they are. These players who DO NOT RUN or USE THE BALL in even an elementary fashion are being paid the same wages as Collingwood & Hawthorn. It is a total disgrace...all my emotion has gone. I want action now. AFL action. Top to bottom, clean the joint out...THIS WEEK. I will not be paying a cent more until they are all gone. Since 2008 i have given about $7,000 to this club, the club i love (and still do) but the people running it have completely wasted it. These people will get no more.4 points

Without doubt the worst coach I have ever seen at MFC in over 40 years of following them. And there have been some bad ones. He is finished and the Club needs to act. It should have acted after round 1. This guy is an absolute dud and we have wasted 2 years with him alienating and destroying the players....and the Club. He needs to be followed out the door by McLardy soon after. What an embarrassment and what a complete and undeniable disaster.4 points

I wasn't able to see the 186, but I saw the first quarter of this and just feel absolutely gutted. Just empty inside.......totally numbed. I have followed this team for nearly 60 years, and this is just inept. I cannot see any future for this club. We are gone. A very sad day in my life.4 points

You can use whatever stats you like to dress up his performance, the facts are we've been garbage since Neeld took over. Show me one area of our performance where we've improved since he took the reigns?4 points

The one thing you need at Subi are hard working flankers who push up the ground and work hard defensively and offensively. I think until half time Tapscott, Byrnes and Jetta had 5 touches between them. All three should be dropped next week as they were all pathetic. As should Dunn who coughed the ball 4 times just to avoid body contact. Our lack of run in the first half was a disgrace. Not much else worth saying.3 points

No wholesale changes to the list for mine. Clear off the players who are clearly a long way outside the best 22 as per normal; give the rest the benefit of the doubt. I don't know how you could possibly make objective decisions on these players at the moment; they are all playing with so little energy that you just couldn't tell where they are really at. It's all in the players' brains IMO. It may be that Neeld can coach - doubtful - but it looks to me that there is just no getting them out of this hole they are in, and it will take a major shake up to do so. I expect a new coach to have a big psychological boosting effect on our players, increase the moral and get them playing with spirit again. From there we can truly start the rebuild, without going back to ground zero yet again.3 points

Mark may as well just leave now - pack his bags and start looking for a new job. For better or worse its over tonight. he wont be coaching next week. And to be honest I doubt he will be the only one. People rave about Neil Craig but he picked up Tambling from Richmond and recommended Sellar from Adelaide. I don't think he will walk away unscathed either. I don't know if this list is as bad as these results. Honestly I doubt it could be but then again this is the list that Neeld refined. Id just like to say to all the younger supporters here, once we were a half decent team - late 80s and 1998-2006 we were actually fun to watch. This is actually so bad that its almost funny. Bring back Nathan Carroll! Bring back Uze - bring back a player who cares!3 points
