  1. I used to rate King, he sounded authoritative and knowledgeable and speaks about interesting topics - until I actually started to listen closely to what he said. He's full of it.

  2. What does that mean: "we don't stand for anything/much". What do Carlton stand for? What do Brisbane stand for? It is meaningless sequence of words. Demetriou used the expression in a fit of anger, to express displeasure. But beyond the pejorative, it has no meaning.

  8. Way too easy to walk in and say "you guys are crap....you need to be 50% fitter". He will be judged in 12 months as to whether they are, and soft tissue injuries are low. Remember, it was he who managed Ball for 3? years but couldn't manage his OP. The filth worked it out in 12 months.

  10. With you there, O55. I thought King was a bit sharp, but the more I listen to him, the more I think he tries too hard to make clever points, but instead says the bleedin' obvious or make big statements that flop.

  12. The phrase no [censored] Sherlock comes to mind. There's a reason why our players always trailed their opponents and refused to push hard running for team mates to create options etc. It's either they are not fit enough or just plain lazy. Glad it's the fitness because laziness is harder to fix. Thank god we have a FD in place now who can at least identify the problem and take it from there.

  13. I don't blame him for not being impressed. The players deserve to be chained in the bowels of a slave galley and row all the way to China for an end of season trip.

  14. I know quite a few that were getting very disenchanted with Bailey as head coach, along with his inept goons. With all the positive movements in the off-season, plus the recruitment of Mitch Clark, i see no reason why we won't be able to again create a new membership record. I reckon the club will announce it's new joint-major sponsor in mid November, as there is little action between now and draft day (which we won't have as big a play in this year), plus the current major sponsors will have lapsed by then. Wait until their tenure is over before announcing the new one's. Should the MFC announce another very positive result for a new sponsor, it would create even more positive momentum and could set us up to have a crack at breaking the 40,000 member barrier. Something that would've been unheard of, a couple of years ago. It was only 2 years ago that we announced breaking through the 30,000 member barrier for the first time. We have to break the 40,000 member barrier though. This club needs to continue to grow, and i'm sure that it will. 40,000 members would be huge, and should be seen as the minimum for next year. A real tick of approval to all those involved in the off-field department at the club. The die-hards always sign up, even those who are eternal pessimists. We are the type that are already in too deep. It is up to us members to convince other 'fans' of the club that now is the time to sign up. Hell, poach others if need be. Our "army" will never be as big as the filth's, but we are just as passionate and we show the equal most resilience of any club in the AFL. How can we not be? If still after what will now be 48 years of drought, we continue to break membership records, club sponsorship records, best facilities we've ever had, biggest recruitment since Jeff White, best footy department structure we've ever had, most willing to spend in the footy department that the club has ever seen!!! Halfway through this year, our club was seen as being very structurally weak. A lesser board, the Gardner board and all before it, would have seen it go backwards and fall down, of this i'm sure. Jim's board, Jim's team, whilst having had some set backs, have taken it in their stride, looked at the negatives as a positive as it showed where the club needed to improve and acted to rectify this, ultimately putting us in a stronger position than if it were never to have happened. Make no mistake, under Jimmy's watch, whilst there have been many to be given credit, it is his unparalleled enthusiasm that has made sure that this club has got to where it is now, and where it will be in the future. Over an extended period, our club has never endured no darker time off-field, and yet because of this we are going to be made the strongest we have ever been. It is because of where this club was and where it is now, that places Jim as the equal most important person, if not the most important, that this club has ever seen. Norm Smith and Barassi are legends of the club no doubt. But in times of good. No one has had such an impact when times were really bad, which counts for even more imo, as what Jim has had. This alone places him as the top Demon by some margin over our clubs 153 year existence. Jim is a living legend of this club, and forever will be.

  15. True, but I still contend it would be having zero impact on their fitness levels.

  16. Oh yes, the couple of minutes it takes them to tweet 3 or 4 times a day, must really have a major impact on their fitness!

  17. Look at Dale Thomas to see what is required to improve your fitness. Has moved on to be elite after the past 28 games or so. Works hard. That's what we need to do. Particularly blokes like Bennell and Jetta

  21. It definitely isn't a 'no chance' proposition. Have a look at these skyrocketting teams since the turn of the century. 2000 Us from 14th to 3rd 2001 Port Adelaide from 14th to 3rd 2001 Richmond from 9th to 4th 2002 Collingwood from 9th to 4th 2003 Sydney from 11th to 4th 2004 St Kilda from 11th to 3rd 2004 Geelong from 12th to 4th 2005 Adelaide from 12th to 1st 2006 Fremantle from 10th to 3rd 2007 Geelong from 10th to 1st 2007 Port Adelaide from 12th to 2nd 2007 North Melbourne from 14th to 4th 2008 St Kilda from 9th to 4th 2008 Western Bulldogs from 13th to 3rd 2009 Nil 2010 Nil 2011 West Coast from 16th to 4th A team from outside the eight gets into the four pretty much every year! Including: - 15 times in the last 12 years. - Three of the top four teams in 2007 - Several from as far back as 14th. - Two that jumped straight to minor premiers, with one of those going on to win the flag. - Three more that made grand finals (not forgetting us in 2000, of course) That said, I think 2013 will be our skyrocketting year. But why not dare to dream in 2012?

  22. Well, he better do what he is getting paid for an get them into shape. I dont care about the past or what condition they're in now, i care about what he does with them over the preseason and how they go next year.

  23. Funny how people rate other teams hacks above our own. Bevan and Bartram have the same disposal problems...ie. can't hit the side of a barn. I'd rather have Urquhart....much more upside.

  24. Cam's 'helicopter' kicks were an endearing source of amusement for me and my friends as we watched him play. And the guy could run all day. His form before the Guerra tackle in 05 was the stuff of myth or legend - it was that good. And in a decade I am sure all will be forgotten about his departure from the Dees. But... The criticism that rings true in my mind are his inconsistent kicking and the 'hospital' handpassing that Viney12 described - they were quite awful...

  25. His rough deal? Let's look at it this way.....Cameron was WELL aware of the clubs policy that 30 + year olds only received 1 year deals. He then acted as though this was a surprise. If the media knew, all of the supporters knew etc. he could not feign ignorance. He then waits unitl AFTER trade period, ensuring we couldn't get anything for him, to advise the club he wouldn't be signing and then effectively takes a poop on the club on his way out. This is after on multiple times holding the club to ransom at contract renewal time and playing it out through the media - and spending years as being the clubs highest paid player I thank Cameron for what he contributed to the club, but his actions throughout his career relating to contract renewal leave a sour taste in my mouth

  28. We arent in a rabble I think Port are a team that are in a rabble. But some of the things Greg said are right. At the moment we dont stand for much. We arent a big melbourne club, no one fears playing us, we dont have the big crowds , our supporters dont turn up if we are losing and at the moment we dont have any superstar players that people rate. I think we have some great players but no on else looks at our list and says there is superstar. Clark well I think it was a great move and the jury will be out on the decision and what we are paying him but I reckon he will deliver for us. As someone said on SEN we needed a tall foward not a mid fielder. Greg has to realise that we are over Scully going and some of us know that Jack Viney will slot in and do the job the year after. The only way to shut people up is to actually win and get into the finals on a consistent basis. Not come out and win by 10 goals then the next week lose by 80 points. We need consistent wins. Im confident 2012 will deliver that.

  33. gee glad the poms didnt consult with demonanders in 1939. they wouldve thrown in the towel and all committed mass suicide the moment hitler fired the first shot. we all demand determination and positive spirit from the playing group but there seem to be plenty on here that need a good dose of it themselves. lets all harden the **** up and throw this bull**** defeatist attitude away.

  36. I reckon Bruce realised that he only had one year possibly two years of football left in him. He summised that at MFC he had only 1 year at most. He was right. After he had an injury riddled year with 9 games, Tapscott and Strauss were coming up and would have been preferred. There was no chance given where MFC's list is that he would have gotten another run in 2012. And putting the Club before yourself in this modern game is not leadership but self sacrifice. Bruce may have been self mercenary but for guy who was pick 64 in 1999, he did well to play 233 games in 12 years with 1 Bluey and a couple of close calls on it. Wouldnt mind if we got a few picks like that at pick 60+.

  37. I'll probably get abused for this, but good. If he had of stayed with us he probably would have got another year, he was only competing for a list spot with an upgraded rookie.. The way he left was a disgrace, potentially cost Junior another year, and was probably the stupidest decision ever made by a footballer trying to lengthen his career. Overpaid and selfish is how I'll remember Cam.

  39. And that's that folks. Since we started the Player Review series, we've always "pinned" the particular player's review on top of our pages for a few days to honour his contribution to the club and to keep the focus on the player in question for a few more days and then unpinned the thread to allow others to go up instead. Even did it with Brock McLean when he went to Carlton and declared the drive to Casey for training was too much for him. At least he gave of himself to the club (and more when he donated to the Debt Demolition). However, in the case of Scully, we've decided that he's has had enough exposure on Demonland. Goodbye Tom or Ned or whoever you are. This thread is locked by popular acclaim and it won't be pinned.

  42. The Saints having to squeeze out a whole bunch of middle of the road players because they cornered themselves with the salary cap is not really that interesting to me. Unless they're going to squeeze Riewoldt out then they can suffer in their jocks. I couldn't be less interested in their middle tier - reckon we're just as likely to get what we need in the draft.

  44. I find it funny how we obtain a 200cm player in the trade, and now all of a sudden we have too many talls? FFS people, it was these "experts" that said we are crying out for a big-bodied forward. Now, for some common sense. Gawn is NOT to be traded. Jamar is NOT to be traded. And YES, we can play with Martin, Gawn, Jamar and Clark ALL in the same team. The issue for most supporters is their obsession with mid-sized forwards. I've got news for ya - our team can't have all of Petterd, Green, Sylvia, Howe, Tappy, Dunn and Jurrah playing as mid-sized forwards. These guys have got 2 options - either be a gun half forward flanker, or have the capacity to rotate through the midfield and have an impact when doing so. Syliva get's the tick for the latter, Jurrah gets the tick for the former. I think Howe can be a gun half forward, and Petterd and Tappy can potentially play the latter also. Premiership winning forwardlines have multiple big bodies. Don't believe me? Tell me the last one that didn't have them. I have no issue with Clark at Full Forward, Watts at CHF, and the resting ruckman in the pocket. It could mean Martin does become our CHB (now that we have that KPF). Watch the highlights of Gawn on the MFC website - he is a very good mark, and will only get better. Ideally in a couple of years time, Gawn will take over that number 1 ruck role. That's when I could easily see Jamar playing in a pocket alongside Clark, then have the resting ruckman on the bench. Collingwood did it this year (used the bench for their rucks), and while it limits the amount of interchange rotations for our midfielders, with the new fitness/sports science gurus on board, hopefully we will be able to accommodate this. Please guys, let's get some stability of our list for a couple of years before you start calling for blokes like Jamar or Gawn to be traded. I know you ask if Jamar will be there in our window, but let's not forget, we need to win games to make the 8 first, then we can worry about winning flags. Taking Jamar out of our team in 2012-2014 will not do us any favours.

  49. IMO there are a number of things to like about Joel, especially his work ethic, blind courage and strength in the contests. He is a limited footballer, but gives his all every time he is out on the park. Unfortunately, his attributes are offset by below average skill execution and too many brain fades. I think he was probably recruited as a 'stop-gap' in defence, but I doubt that we still need him in that capacity. He had another honest and serviceable year for the Dees.
