Tony Liberatore was interviewed last night on SEN around 8pm after he accepted the senior coaches position at Sunbury Football Club and he went on to say how he interviewed for the Melbourne senior coaches job also previous to accepting the position and how he was significantly more impressed with the Sunbury football department professionalism and processes during interviewing than Melbournes.

Football department staffing positions hadnt been completed at that time and Riley, Fagan etc were all on the way out so was it a shoddy process the club went through or as asked above merely sour grapes that Libba now finds himself out in Sunbury?

Couldn't give a flying fig what this guy thinks. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Or rationalising (badly) why he didn't get the job.

I think Sunbury is a very fine destination for Libba and a fitting compliment for his coaching abilities.

I notice 15 other clubs absolutely brawling to get him in their Coaches department.

The reason he wasn't picked is becasue he had no fresh ideas of how to take th club forward.

Who really cares what the pipsqueak thinks? I don't think even I could take him seriously as a coach... And if the interview process was so unprofessional why did ju$$ say it was?

He sounds like a true professional to me. What was he doing wasting our time being interviewed?

Sour grapes. Most observers thought the club was taking a very professional and thorough approach towards its most important appointment and this twit wasn't happy because he was eliminated early. Did he really think he was a better candidate than Bailey, Sheedy or Hardwick? Maybe the club just wanted a man the players could look up to!

Anyway Libba, good luck at Sunbury. It's a nice part of the world and the crowds are small enough for you to avoid major embarassment when addressing the palyers at the 3/4 time huddles.

he obviously didn't get very far in the process, did he speak to anyone from the club, or was he culled by the recruiting company? of the list of applicants, he seemed to be the least qualified at the time, seemed like he was a kid in grade 2 wanting to play with the grade 5 kids...

but you've gotta feel for the bloke, he's gone from being an assistant coach at an AFL club, to coaching Sunbury, that's a massive reality check... it obviously says something about him though, not being able to find a job elsewhere, although apparently when he coached Box Hill i think it was, he did a good job...

there are so many positions out there for someone with his experience, VFL, TAC Cup, SANFL, WAFL, if he was really committed to it he should leave melbourne and go and coach in Adelaide or something...

to be honest i'm surprised he hasn't applied for the Sandy position... or maybe that's the interview he's complaining about!

maybe the club were reacting to the calibre of the applicant.

first impressions go a long way

You've summed the situation up perfectly

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
