I'm really happy with the appointment. It shows that the process was adhered to and that the club took the best coach without giving in to popular pressure.

It does give me faith in the club administration.

Good luck Dean.

I'm really interested to hear his thoughts on the club.

Unbelievable decision. We had a real chance to snag one of the greatest coaches of all time who would not only raise the profile of this great club but also bring in sponsporship dollars and increased membership and we blew it!

FOOL

THE BALD BADGER WILL DOMINATE!!!!

Just as Malcolm Blight and Dennis Pagan achieved greatness at St.Kilda and Carlton respectively.

Visionary appointment imho.

well..

have to admit Im a little disappointed that Sheeds didnt get the nod.

but thats old hat even now I suppose.. So welcome to the MFC Dean

Take no prrisoners, give no inch please.. kick this team into shape and nudge it along the road to success :)

Treat the players with the respect and condemnation as you see fit.

and its over to you Mr Bailey !!!

For all of you who wanted sheedy to increase sponsorship and members, if this guy is good enough, members and sponsors will come when we get a flag.

I am rapt we took this bold step.

ok...for the next obvious question

what sort of team ought we expect from him ? what are his known preferences in style ( given the port history etc ) who might we expect to see on the chopping block and whom might he like out of the draft ?

anyone

Ferris ??

He is no longer working at the Power. That is why it got leaked. Port Adelaide decided well he can't be involved in our finals now and have dropped him for remainder of theseason, knowing this would get out Melbourne released the statement.

Go Bailey the Bald Badger!!!

Does that mean he can coach Sat.? (not that well need one)

An apalling footballer, but seemingly a v.good coach and a good, though risky, choice. Quite a funny man, too, so his press conferences could be interesting.

I think A big opportunity missed!

On the other hand it could be the greatest decison of all time. Lets give the man a chance and see what he can do.

its irellevent now.. the die is cast..

To put it into persepective for the young 'uns, its like Simon Godfrey or Ryan Ferguson getting a senior coaching gig 15 years down the track, no offence to those two guys but thats about where Bailey was in Essendons pecking order back then in terms of skill and leadership...

Gotta be pumped about this. Can't wait to find out whats he is gonna do with the club.

Draft, Trade, de-list. It's all up in the air now!!

Has there also been any announcement of Chris Connolly taking over the football operations job, as has been rumored. I know a lot of people on here didn't like the prospect of Cuddles coaching Melbourne but he did a fantastic job of promoting Freo over in the west and has helped build the club into a great financial position.

Very happy!

the reason i would have liked sheedy as coach is purely bc of the sponsership and members he could attract to our club. however this is not a reason to get a coach. if we had not made the 8 next season, sheedy would have been seen as a failure and members/sponsors would have dropped off.

The way to win sponsorship deals and memberships is to be successful on field. therefore, the coach chosen should be the one who can lead us to most success on field.

Dean Bailey has an unquestionably impressive coaching resume. he has coached his own club, and been defensive/midfield coach at PortAdelaide during an extremely successful period.

He is Mark Williams (arguably in the best 3 coaches in the AFL) right hand man.

He has seen Port Adelaide completely rebuild their list since 2004 (almost half their list has changed) and within 3 years they are premiership contenders and 2nd on the ladder (having jsut beaten geelong)!!!

Exciting times ahead. unlike sheedy, we can expect bailey to seriously cull our list at years end, which is must needed.

we can only hope Bailey has a similar effect to MFC than clarkeson has had to hawks. we could follow a similar path

Oh and also,

if people arent sure about Bailey they should take this into consideration...

Bailey beat out Sheedy, Connoley, McKenna, Bond, Riley, Hardwick and numerous other extremely highly rated coaching prospects.

if he got thru that extensive process involving numerous tests and still came out on top people can be sure he is deserving.

he must be bloody impressive to beat out all those guys. That alone gives me faith he will be good

While agree almost completely with your posts there, I can't help but think that it was the Melbourne board that picked him over those candidates, and Melbourne board members havnt always been known for their wonderful business/football moves.

He looks like a recently-retired Irish Bouncer. Lets hope he gets his shalalee out and starts belting a few blokes, who've gotten just a touch too comfortable, with it.

Absolutely rapt with this appointment and genuinely excited.

the board would simply have ratified the decision of the selection committee.

the selection process has been extensive and impressive imo.

(btw if nething i would assume the board would prefer sheedy bc he would improve off-field success over the preseason...bailey is more of a risk and thsi suggests that it was the committee and not the board who chose him. if Bailey was able to be the best coach throughout that process, being more impressive than all those great other prospects, he must be unbelievable)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
