POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon

That's the kind of performance that just breaks trust in everything. King will earn his money this week. Pathetic offensively, pathetic again defensively and then soundly beat out of the middle by B- opposition players.

If you're in our team and you walk off that ground, how do you not feel embarrassed? Disgusting performance.

I asked before the match "What could go wrong?"

Having watched the match, I think the answer should have been "everything".

Windsor back to the wing

More muscle on the inside

T Mac to the knackery

A real is King The Right Guy performance

Edited by adonski

TMac and Melk should have been managed. We should also have not let them have so many uncontested possessions. Go 1 on 1 all over the ground and that doesn't happen. Poor coaching today.

It's so [censored] infurating how Essendon look like a completely different team every time we play them in Adelaide. Hope we never get them on Gather Round again.

Watch them lose by 10 goals next week to rub some salt in the wound.

ย

So did we get out to a 19 point lead in the 2nd quarter?

Ugh it's just frustrating because I thought we could trust this 2026 team.

4-1 would had been great and it would had been nice to extend there losing streak.

Thankfully I didn't have to see a second of it.

Just hurts after last week's great win.

I hate gather round

Very disappointing performance.

Inexplicable, that was a real head scratcher. Plenty for Kingy to chew on after that horror show.

As good as we were last week we were totally clueless today

Kossie and Maxy werenโ€™t too bad. Petty competed but aside from that we were dreadful across the board.

Back to the G next week. Hopefully we can find some better form against the Lions

P.S Gather Round and Essendon can get in the bin

โ€œBig pictureโ€ โ€œcontextโ€ โ€œnew systemโ€

Blah, blah, blahโ€ฆ.

That was straight up garbage, no matter how you try and spin it. I could cop getting belted by Fremantle, but not Essendon, at least with their current form and predicament.

An absolutely lazy and arrogant performance today that lacked so much defensive application and accountability. To beat St Kilda and Gold Coast in such fashion only to submit to Essendon in such a way that allowed them to score 28 shots on goal from 50 inside 50โ€™s is so [censored] disheartening as a fan after a very positive first month of football.

Like, wtfโ€ฆ McKay suddenly turned into prime Scarlett and May looked like Matthew Lloyd of 2000.

How could they have such work rate both ways and attack with the ball and at the man and then put up that.

Great to see TMac and Melksham to 250 but they both need to go (Salem not far behind).

Lindsay, Windsor, Culley too reactive and just waited timidly for Essendon to win the ball. JVR has used most of the tickets he built up round 1.

Our lack of shifting to a man on man to stop there short kicks and also the lack of manning up Robertโ€™s both poor from a coaching viewpoint.

How King and we respond next week will be interesting to watch.

Lost for words, a terrible effort from too many.

And dealing with histerical bombers supporters, [censored].

I donโ€™t get how we didnโ€™t switch on. It was clear. Essendon played keepingโ€™s off. They also didnโ€™t have any reason to stop it, as we wouldnโ€™t play man to man. So they continued to chip the ball around hitting targets whilst we kept hand balling it straight into the arms of them when we finally got the ball.

They looked slow.

They looked disorganized.

They were really quite embarrassing.

Out of Essendon last 7 wins. We are two of them.

Hope King finally gives them a spray, you can kind of expect it from Freo, a decent side. But to lose like this, to a team that was on a 17 loss streak, you deserve a spray of a life time and a wake up call.

Now we roll into Brisbane 3-2, and probably go 3-3, instead of what should have been going in 4-1 and probably losing and being in a good position of 4-2.

Horrible outcome.

The kind of performance most pundits predicted for us at the start of the season.

Hopefully an aberration, but doesn't augur well. And hate to say it but Essendon's young players looked a lot better than our young players.

Windsor 4 possessions in the first 3 minutes, 3 for the rest of the game

Melksham 2 kicks in his 250th? Really?

TMac Soundly beaten looked like an old hack

Archie Roberts 42 disposals off their back line. Anyone in the coaching box think they might try to nullify that?

Darcy parish 33 touches looked like a genius

FFS Tsatas had 29 touches.

We had no answer to their keepings off, couldn't stick a tackle, had zero intensity at the contest,

I was at the Swans game where we allowed them to break their 26 losing game streak This was equally as embarrassing

Hang your heads in shame.

I said in the pre game that Scott would use an uncontested game against us and I was proven right. He just knows that it's our weakness.

Brad Scott with his unbelievable record against us plus our terrible Adelaide oval record since 2023 = disaster.

That was awful, new system etc. but that's so embarrasing and they should all take a long hard look at themselves after that.

We made them look good. Bombers every time over there god I hate the bombers!

Often on here people rubbish this team and I just dont understand it. But today let your anger out because that was just poor. Surely teams understands that other teams are going to be fired up. That other teams just believe they have the wood on you. Maybe there's an underlying reason why they played so poor but for mine they just took the game as a easy win.

Really disappointing as Iโ€™d hoped we were a new club and those type of performances against a winless side were behind us.

Public transport is free in Victoria this month and Melbourne had too many passengers today.

We need to stay hungry and humble.

The absolute most spineless performance from a team who beat a premiership favourite the week before.

Against a team who were on a 17 game winless streak and made them look like the Harlem globetrotters.

There is no excuss for a performance like that, big head syndrome written all over it no pressure, no intensity, zero accountability.

17 friggen games without a win and they conjure up a win against us.

F k n spineless, weak, and gutless.

Itโ€™s not the end of the world, itโ€™s just a game of footy, and weโ€™re all gonna die one day etc etc

But yeah that was so bad and to lose to those mugs again, over there, like that, is depressing

The hope really does kill you, hey?

The most predictable result I think Iโ€™ve ever witnessed.

Canโ€™t believe after all those years there were STILL posters in the pregame thread talking about percentage. Like, when will you learn?

Dees footy.

ย

sigh.... Why is it always us! Will need to see a response next week. I know it's Brisbane so realistically I think a win might be a bridge too far but I need to see something. A bit of fight/mongrel. Something to show that today was an anomaly and the brilliance we saw against Suns, Carlton and St Kilda is the norm.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competitionโ€™s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
