POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Carlton

Oh Carlton. Never change.

I really donโ€™t know where Kozzie ranks as a player across the league. But when he smells blood in the water. My god. That second half was something special.

Somebody bring me a thesaurus, I need some more superlatives to describe Kozzieโ€™s performance.

Well done Demons! ๐Ÿ‘

If you read the game day thread you'd think the exact opposite. I was gobsmacked by the amount of criticism he was getting.

Even in the first half he was our only one showing genuine skill and class.

Whoever had the idea to recruit Jack Steele (and for peanuts) deserves a raise. Alongside the disposals and clearances, 15 tackles. Hard to imagine what the midfield would be without him in there.

What was the Melbourne crowd like? I couldn't be there today but definitely scared some of my neighbours.

We were raucous and thoroughly enjoyed the comeback. Belted out grand old flag at the end. Just a great day at the G

Thought Culley had an under the radar really good game

Good happens when he touches it

Weirdly the Carlton fans around me didnโ€™t seem that disappointed, or shocked. They just seemed mildly annoyed it was happening again, and sure as hell werenโ€™t sticking around until the siren.

Canโ€™t have scared your neighbours more than we did on a Sunday afternoon in Brisbane!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wow. My voice is gone. Went from one of the worst days at the footy to the best! Our midfield was non existent in the first quarter and then dominated completely after half time!

Patrick Cripps shoved Kolt to the ground after a decent goal, totally unnecessary! Always a folly to crow early, but I hope sometime Kolt reminds him of the final result. I enjoyed the Kama..

Pretty sure he had 11 tackles to half time, when it was going belly up. He dug in in that first half.

St Kilda are fools for letting him go. He just gives his all. Weโ€™re lucky to have him.

Love some people to re-read comments

Would require a few to log in more than once every 5 years to call for the coaches sacking

CJ and Petty are my two worries. Otherwise I could say great things about the rest of the team. Steele, Kossie, Sparrow, Langford, Lever and the Captain are particular performance highlights of the game for me... Go Dees, and suck it Blues ๐Ÿ˜„

Jack Steele and Kozzie Pickett absolutely huge in the last quarter

My neighbours in Ipswich said they knew Melbourne had won, when we beat Geelong last Rd of 2021!!

Gameday thread is a place to vent akin to shouting at the tv. Not useful, insightful and rarely represents reality but can be cathartic to release frustration (kinda useful then I guess). Not sure why anyone reads anything else into it.

Absolutely incredible - was looking for a quick exit after the Blues kicked the first of the second, but ended up amongst the Demon Army in Q4.

Fantastic Melbourne support, by the way - Demon Army super loud, Carlton fans gave nothing.

Aside from Kossie - Langdon, Sharp and Sparrow were huge in the last: relentless.

GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!!

Got there at quarter time and thought that maybe I should have not bothered, but watching us fight our way back into the game and then dominate it, made it one of the best days at the footy in a few years.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFLโ€™s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.ย
