Melbourne Membership Day on Radio (10.3.26)

how many games do u need to attend to get your moneys worth?

For both an adult and a 16 year old

Cheers

It is a great deal deemoralizing67. GA is usually $27 for an adult & about $18 for your 16 year old. Works out to be $10 a game, or go to three games with your teenager and you well and truly come out winning. In all honesty, I buy a membership for everything that comes with it, and usually don't get "money worth" in that sense.

Lol it was always going to be asked, I’m sure King will be fine 😂

King was fine, but that wasn't the point.

Do you think it was ok to invite a new Coach on your show, on his club's membership promotion day and then the very first question you ask him, is a negative one about how he feels about ex club champions playing at another club.

I thought Watson was pathetic asking that as his first question.

I'm not too phased about media asking questions about Trac and Clarry. They were probably our two best players for a number of years including our premiership year and were subsequently traded out. From the outside, this is what is most interesting about Melbourne for a neutral supporter.

This talk will disappear pretty quick if we can demonstrate a new playing style and snag a few early surprise wins.

Watson isn’t the sharpest TOOL in the shed and the SEN shed doesn’t have lot of cutting ability. Ask it once Timmy but then when it’s answered STFU and move on.

I think we must make a positive of this issue.

WE have loved both our premiership players who provided not just the flag but great enjoyment and entertainment for our members and fans. Indeed they provided increased interest in footy to all followers and grew not only our club but the game.

As a strong club we are able to see that growth in our players and while disappointed when they leave we can farewell not only Trac and Ollie but ANB Jacko Maysie etc with all due respect and thanks. The club has always shown understanding and loyalty to our players and we have benefitted from their presence.

We now move on to an exiting new phase where the next generation of players will contribute with our remaining flag bearers to give sustained success to the club. Thats a success that does not always mean winning but being competitive, improving and being the best players and people as individuals. We believe that will bring club success and is why we urge our fans to become members and our members to welcome them and continue to provide the support they have, and of course we welcome people who have never supported a club to join us on our journey.

An important membership drive with the special offer of 11 home games for $100.

Importantly, we will also hear from Paul Guerra (facilities update) and Steven King.

Get on board only $100 if you haven’t already.

Great value.

I paid $120 in Oct for a 3 game membership which was upgraded to a 6 game flexi (but seems that I was issued 8 barcodes, maybe I misread something).

Anyways, if you don't have a membership yet, get a 10 flexi for $100 👍

Carn the Dees (except on 29 March 😁)

One last challenge for our club to call itself premium club (Caulfield)

Happy with Casey but can’t hold hole club

Don’t have own space and gym at aami with other sports teams

Want football and business come together

Board hard at work getting closer working with state gov, closer than ever before but still not close enough to announce

Always look at other resources

Delicate stages with state government

Focus on how do we secure Caulfield and

Somewhere between 3-5 year window hoping to be done (Caulfield) being approved and built

In Paul’s mind - no reason melb can’t be the biggest in afl with name. Proud history but we need to create our next price of history which starts with us.

Another comment asking about how he though Clayton and Christian went on the weekend 🙄🙄

Filling mcg on a weekly basis, playing fun and exciting footy. Have a lot of fun this year.

Thought he answered everything as well as he could. Waverley only after Caulfield locked in dependent on time frame to build. Delicate negotiations but sounded promising

so we're 3-5 years away from being 3-5 years away?

Listened to max this morning on mmm. He's great on his weekly appearance on mick in the morning.

Asked about trac & Clayton. Said he doesn't really care & just wants to focus on Melbourne & is bullish on what we can do.

Said Clayton when a mic is put in front of him can say anything

59 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

so we're 3-5 years away from being 3-5 years away?

He got asked when he hopes Caulfield will be ready and he said he hopes for it to be done and finished and moved in in 3-5 years

Yeah that was ****house on Watson.

Worry about your grub of a club Timmy that havent made finals since the stone age.

Is it just me or did Garry groan when Watson asked that question?

I’d love to know if the other clubs who have done membership days on SEN have had questions like that thrown at them. It’s such a stupid question too - what do you want him to say? “Yeah [censored] I wish we hadn’t traded him”? Or “Nah [censored] that guy I couldn’t care less what he does now”?

As for the interview itself, like others I’m most keen in how much truth there is to the whole “we prefer to back our system in” when asked about tagging Nas. If we lose on Sunday and Nas gets a stack of it running unchecked, we’re going to look unbelievably stupid, and Demonland is going to riot.

I agree. but it is what it is. There is absolutely no integrity left in journalism anymore..

You could have had least eased into the interview a little more.

Just signed up my wife for 10-game flexi membership. We're planning on going with some non-members this Sunday and allegedly we can use that to get them in.

She plans to charge them a beer each for their admission, essentially coming out ahead with the cost of beers at the g.

Win-win for all, except for me who paid for the $100 membership 😅

Maybe a throwaway comment but I really hate when the club (CEO's and Pres in particular) say things like this. It's unlikely we will ever be the biggest club in the AFL, not in the foreseeable future anyway - currently we rank dead last in terms of supporter numbers in multiple surveys across decades.

The focus should be on ensuring we are a successful club that is self sustainable (ie not reliant on AFL support, not reliant on debt etc) - how we compare to other clubs off field (members, finances, crowds etc) is really irrelevant if we can achieve success and sustainability. It is just setting us up for failure and without a strategy to achieve it it is just platitudes anyway.

Very first question from Watson on Petracca. Pretty poor and disrespectful on a Dees promotion day and to a new Coach.

An absolutely pathetic question, but gee I felt Kingy handled it well.

Front foot, got to the pitch of it, sent it back over the bowler's head for six imo.

He's both polished and articulate which very much adds to the persuasion of the message he has delivered so far.

Agree...build a successful club.

Everything else will take care of itself from there.

Stop talking BS and get to work.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
