May on the field, the irreplaceable Peter Jackson off the field. But brought that rarely seen attribute at the Dees : absolute overt ruthlessness. Can’t be overestimated.

There would be a start to an AFL season without a MFC pile on. We do ourselves no favours either. Everything this year was tracking smoothly for once, then this.

Do we have any more skeletons in the closest?

How could we forget the impact this guy had on the football club.

When he got here it was clear that the culture and training programs he'd come from weren't up to scratch. He turned it around very quickly and for a period there did become a respected leader of the team. Might even go down as one of the best key defenders this club has ever had.

It's sad to see where it started to decline but I'm not going to put the microscope on that for now. There were a lot of fine moments and I'll still never understand how the guy played a grand final with a ripped hammy.

Steven, you've been a great servant of the club and we are all forever grateful for the part you played. We all hope that the future starts looking up for you.

He's gone now, why does it matter moving forward? Specially to a new coaching group and effectively a new list of players.

Sad to hear he could not go one more season, one of the most physical and mentally toughness players to where the jumper.

Wish him well in whatever comes next for him.

It doesn't, it is just another year where there is an MFC hit piece at season start, despite us playing great footy. We have moved off half the team, trouble makers (bar one), prima donna's etc. But it appears there is always off-field stuff that dominate headlines around our club. Its not like every other club is squeaky clean or doesn't have a problem child - it is just ours seems to make the headlines.

Probably because we are. Geelong made a grand final last year.

He was critical to our premiership in 2021. Probably a good thing he’s retired for our culture though.

I put May on such a high pedestal that the only Demon key defender I can place above him was Bob "Tassie" Johnson who played in three premierships (1959,60 and 64) and captained the side in 1969. But in the modern era, he reigned supreme in his role.

The 2023 SF will always be remembered for the Acres goal, but if that Viney kick had got past Weitering, then that game would have forever been remembered by Dees fans as one of the greatest defensive masterclasses by a full back. May was unbelievable that night

I will die on this hill: May's performance in that Semi is the best ever by a full back.

So if we make a GF and Stengle for example played for us, there would not be any discussion about his current absence, or his past issues.

The media plays favourites, always has and always will.

That being said, we just have to win games and get ourselves back to relevancy.

May was absolutely brilliant between 2020 and 2023, and a hugely significant factor in our 2021 premiership. For that, I will always be immensely grateful to him.

The club clearly erred in extending his contract early last year, as it was obvious from mid-2024 that his form and fitness were falling away badly. His best football was still very good, but the bad games were often very bad and certainly more common.

I wish him all the best for his future, and hope that he is able to resolve any issues that have been troubling him in recent times.

A sad way for such a great of our club to fade out the back door. Hope he gets some sought of sendoff by the club.

David Neitz was a champion both as a KPF and a KPD. His early duels with Wayne Carey were awesome.

A reminder that this is an appreciation thread for a champion player and not a place for rumours or speculation about his private life.

Apparently he’s going to sign with East Ringwood footy club. That’s pretty cool!
