PREGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda

Was super keen for the club to draft Latrelle, excited to watch him play his first game. Cant wait!

"See Trelly on the Telly" is a fairly dumb way for the club to promote our first home game for the year.

Nevertheless, good luck to Latrelle. I hope it is the first of many games for the club.

I have officially changed my tips for Sunday.
The MFC will win, the Pickett Boys will run Rampant
Big Game for JVR..He must Lead out and Hold his Marks....

they could only kick 9 goals against a depleted Pies backline

Saints are so overrated and they are not even rated that highly. lol

One for the "what are they saying down at Moorabbin" files...

"Looking at their side, their forward line definitely has some weapons. Mihocek, Van Rooyen, Fritsch, Melksham - there's some goal-kicking power there and with Kosi and Latrelle Pickett, there are players that could really cause us issues inside 50.

Huge responsibility on the midfield to step up here. They have a young midfield, we need to stamp our authority on that part of the game. If we let them get on top they could cause us a lot of headaches with that forward line"

It's been a minute since I've seen anyone have our forward line as an area for concern 😱

If he does a ‘Celly’ the media will lose it

The irony is if we didn’t have Steele, i’d be worried

Expected interchange (IMO): Pickett, Culley, McDonald, Rivers, Melksham.

EMG: Heath, Sharp & Tholstrup.

Quick and young it is!

Long live the revolution

Go Demons.

The fifth bench spent Is perfect for an underdone Melksham, who can ideally play about 50% of game time.

Petty a little lucky to get a gig if his role on Tom Lynch (2.3 in a half) iwas an indication of things to come.

T Mac, Heath and Sharp to miss is my tip.

Speed kills! I love the approach King has taken 💨

Thought we'd see Melky as the 5th man ahead of Sharp, clearly prioritised speed though

That is a running side, and I like it. We might need all the legs we can get in the last quarter.

I’m so pumped for the G on Sunday now!

Go Dees!!!

Well... this ought to be an interesting game..

Gone is the old stop go contested hold-ups and indecision.

In... play footy... run..

Go Dees

I love how Kozzy has evolved and the confidence he shows off field as well as on.

I know he supposedly wouldn’t want it, but it’d be awesome to see him as the next captain. He has the charisma of Gawn and the toughness of Viney. Unpredictable and genuine.

Side note- think the club handled his personal issues with class. Shut it down and moved on before it was even a conversation.

Culley a shoo-in. As will be Sharp as we need his run

Just sayin.....

Delighted to see Latrelle Pickett make his debut

best of luck young man

Going to be warm so having a quick nice team will be handy especially if it hits the deck in our forward 50.

Sharp, Chandler, Pickett x2 gives us speed and running ability.

Gutsy from the selectors. 5 on the bench and not a tall among them. Bit of a statement, all that talk of speed isn’t just talk.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
