Does anyone know what our membership figures are? I can't see it on the app. I believe we added roughly 2,000 yesterday with our membership drive.

Perhaps the AFL should adopt a system like La Liga? For example, you can become a member (socio) for FC Barcelona. However that is only the membership, you have to pay for season tickets separately.

I believe it was something like 300 euros a year to maintain the member status. Then you can pay additional 900 euros for all home games (19 games).

It seems the clubs are moving the other way ... Doggies, Tiges & Demons all offered 10 or 11 games for 100 bucks for this season

But buying a membership and then not attending games is a very real thing and has been going on for decades

Of course, in the big sports overseas they charge like wounded bills as compared to sport in Oz. But the demand to attend games is huge (overseas) ... thus, the higher charges to attend

Interesting comparison to European football. In the US if you purchase an NBA season pass and don't attend you can on sell you seat for that game. Again, only works if demand outweighs supply.

For sure the prices in Europe for example are not attainable in Australia.

I guess the arm chair membership is similar to what I mentioned, just paying to be a voting member.

Great news - according to the OP we didn’t hit 50k last year until the end of April/start of May.

King said we gained 2,000 during Tuesday's membership drive.

At least a few years ago the Cats were offering that facility

I'm not sure whether it's a club or Ticketmaster problem, but the website for membership management is dreadful. It's impossible by using the website alone to know whether one's membership is paid up or not. The system should be so much simpler. Also, I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but the renewal process doesn't work online either. It just sends you into a useless circular loop.

On the plus side, when I renewed a few weeks ago, I called the club and it was done quickly and simply. But I shouldn't have had to do it that way.

I paid my MCC subs and my MFC membership through the MCC last Tuesday. I’m yet to receive a club email confirming my MFC membership. Does anyone know the deal here?

FWIW, I'm not a member. I take an international subscription, but the liaison between the AFL and WatchAFL (international) is a dog's breakfast - at times it was taking weeks for the subscription to be activated. From memory, there was a year I couldn't even watch Round 1.

I've said before that the AFL does not take digital streaming and rights seriously, they're still back in the days of terrestrial broadcast as for them, that's where the $$$ are. Digital broadcasting has advanced in leaps and bounds (e.g., choice of multiple camera angles, replays, commentaries etc. etc.) but not with the AFL. And until all that is sorted out, I feel like I've been forced to take a direct subscription, bypassing the AFL and the club. I've discussed this Membership, and while they're sympathetic, their hands are tied.

The Club has to wait for the MCC to confirm/update data.

Yes Gonzo, I've been using that membership for years and it does give WatchAFL as part of the membership.

Kids under 14 free against the Blues. A fantastic initiative against a 'marquee' MCG opponent.

This administration are nailing the fundamentals right now.

fwiw, watch afl is run by dazn these days; has not been 'run' by the afl for at least 7 years

It is a Carlton home game and a replacement home game for Melbourne. Both clubs are promoting that children under 14 have free entry. Good initiative by both clubs.

So at this time of year it looks as though we're 3,000 ahead of 2025 but 6,000 behind our peak year of 2023.

I think we will max out at 60,000 however Paul wants us at 65,000.

North - 46,000

Bulldogs - 54,000

St Kilda - 65,000 +

I'm a firm believer that with all things being equal we should be above those three clubs and be mid tier VIC club in terms of membership. Not the second worst.
