Kozzi Pickett - Will he be an all time MFC great?

By the end of his contract, if Kozzi keeps up his games and goals to date he will have

~315 games and 560 goals (very rough calcs as 21 games per year/ 38 goals)

We are witnessing potentially one of our best ever and we might not realise it until much later

That would make him second on our all time goal kickers list

And for those that say he will play midfield so won't score, he averaged his highest goals this season at 2 per game

Sure he could get injured or move clubs but I am attempting a positive thread. (Wish me luck, tell my wife I love her!)

So no pressure 👹

I agree re the scoring, I reckon he'll kick even more next year. Without Trac playing the similar role of starting in the middle and drifting forward, I think we'll see that more and more with Kozz. We should be playing through him more as well without the other two ball dominant mids.

Hoping he keeps building his fitness and has a good pre-season because he can continue to go up another gear next season.

He'll become an all time great, and probably within the next two years. I think he'll also step up into a leadership role and become even more influential. By the end of his career he'll rank amongst the very best ever to have played for the club and maybe even the best of all time. Great thread!

This year might be a test, to see whether and how significant environmental change affects him?

That'll be true, of course, for all the players, to a greater or lesser degree, but I feel the off-field, in-club environment might be a particular factor for him, and his family.

I'm hoping all goes well - better, even - and @DubDee's forecasts duly become reality.

The answers is potentially yes.

It will be interesting how King plays him next year in order to get the best out of him. Is it:

1) Only takes the centre bounce and moves forward i.e. - you'll never really see him at boundary throw ins around the ground or midfield stoppages.

2) 70/30 in the midfield.

3) 70/30 small forward.

I would like option 3. Gives him the best scope to kick 40+ goals but still takes 8 out of 25 centre bounces to weave his magic and win us a few centre clearances.

It is interesting where to play him. It's all about maximum impact

Imo - Centre Bounces and then play him fwd of the ball and in space as much as possible. A kick or a handball off the pack

I honestly think his best is ahead of him and he could kick 60 goals one season and still average 20 touches and go close in the brownlow.

King, Chaps, Whelan and Co need to keep the environment strong that keeps him happy but he doesn't seem a prima donna to me.

I am really hopeful that Dub Dee’s forward projection is quite achievable, I was wondering (to myself) how the team react and respond to two of our midfield bulls disappearing so suddenly. How will it effect team roles and structure, who will step up who will really enjoy the extra freedom, etc because Kozzy and JV are now our only two fully established mids that know and understand their roles. Jack Steele is a known quality In and I’m hopeful that Trent Rivers, Ed Langdon, Kade Chandler, Harvey Langford, Xavier Lindsay, Caleb Windsor, Koltyn Tholstrup, Harry Sharp, Tom Sparrow and Jai Culley all see and jump at the opportunity to become better players and teammates.

Kysaiah ( Kozzie ) Pickett will continue to grow and thrive in the new environment, I can’t wait to see all the changes take effect.

I would be surprised if he stays for the entirety of his contract.

Without wanting to sound like a downer, I tend to agree.

Long term or not, contracts don't seem to matter like they used to and opposition clubs are going to come hard for him every single year.

You are possibly correct DJ but I’m hoping that Steven King and Co will meld our existing and future teams into an exciting competitive group that finally delivers a team that is always in contention and all other teams will have to worry about keeping their stars from the dreaded Demon behemoth. 😁👍
