I can think of a couple of reasons not to join the hawks off the top of my head

Their supporters

Their guernsey

I’m sure there are plenty of others

You might perceive their supporters as annoying, but they have 30,000 more than us, so that's a positive as he gets to play infront of bigger crowds and gets more exposure for post career opportunities.

A guernsey is not a factor in what team you choose to play for, so I assume this is a joke.

They're a premiership contender - we're a bottom four contender.

They have newer, better, more accessible training facilities than us.

The only positive we can potentially offer is more money, and even that is an unknown.

I love my club, but there are very few actual reasons to want to play for MFC over most other clubs in 2026 and the near future sadly.

Side conversation - apparently Geelong likely to get Butters.

Was a very strong Dogs fan and many think he is headed to them.

still think this gets done before the deadline

Think there will be multiple Vic clubs after him and Hawthorn would make a lot of sense.

I did not enjoy that post.

On the bright side, we're authentic. The least sellout club available. And kids these days love a bit of boutique style.

Plus, Caulfield will have completed works and we'll be moved in soon... possibly before anyone gets around to announcung it.

That would be great.

I could live with no announcement, if they quietly started construction.

I saw a You Tube video where they assembled a pre-fabricated home in 1 day.

2 changing rooms (his and hers)

1 Admin room

1 Vault meeting room.

We can be in by the end of Feb!

Sounds like an old demolished primary school from the 80s & 90s with portables and drinking troughs you have to kneel down to drink from!

In the end i'd rather the Hawks go after him. There's a few good Free Agents this year. Butters, comes to mind. i think he is 50/50 he leaves. I think they are at a cross-roads. Similar to where we were 2 years ago. They will try and fight through it as we did, but will likely arrive at the same conclusion that there list (albeit better balanced than ours was) has holes all over the park and will take some trading / drafting to get right. They are next in line after Collingwood and Geelong that will require a rebuild.

Collingwood after finished with no Bobby Hill.

Would everyone prefer Humphrey, or keeping the picks and maybe drafting another Langford and Lindsay?

I would prefer Humphrey. Ready to go, has already shown a very high ceiling and could be our next petracca but a better kick.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
