Melk makes sense, in good form and itโ€™s not like we were about to land a gun key forward.

T Mc to me means either Wade Derksen ainโ€™t coming, Lever is going or May is going (or more than one of those options). No way we carry all those key backs plus Turner and Adams. Not upset heโ€™s going again, but we need to be turning talls over somewhere.

I think it also speaks to our lack of depth. If even one of may, lever or Turner is injured, Tmac is in. He probably wasn't expecting to play as many games as he did this year

No call on Spargo, un contracted

Players like these two are a big bonus in the coaching soft cap era. Require close to no 'maintenance' (whereas a kid might absorb $100-200k worth of attention from coaches as they learn the professional habits and tactics) and also contribute their own experience and standard-setting to the group.

Someone earlier in the thread questioned whether the decision should have been made before a new coach arrived - I'd argue any new coach would be thrilled to have as many mature heads around as possible, especially ones who have each seen their share of tumult and transitions.

Assessing his future is my understanding.

Interesting decisions for a club without a Senior Coach. It restricts the next coach's plans...unless the decision has been made as to who the coach will be and he has agreed with the decisions.

Hmmm, maybe Snake and TMAC will be co-head coaches for us next year, and both gave themselves another year? Playing coaches, I like it!

Howes, Sharp , are safe, contracted, McVee hopefully.

The rest face the chop, the list +.Campbell as well is too long, and most are give aways, massive amount of chaff.

I'm very happy with Tommy Mac getting another year, and okay with Melksham getting the same.

However, I don't understand why we always rush into locking away veterans and rookies prior to the trade period, and I especially don't understand doing it when there is no coach in place.

It significantly impacts our options in the trade period and in the drafts, so we end up with sub-optimal situations like taking Johnson in the national draft when he could have been a rookie.

Or maybe it unlocks our ability to trade other players.

No surprise you find a negative everywhere.

I think that it will depend on the final series at Casey some will rule themselves in some will rule themselves out. Canโ€™t see the two Jacks surviving and Marty Hore is retiring, Judd McVee is the mystery one.

Both players deserved another year on form and i am glad they are going around again. Somewhat surprised though....

As other posters have said maybe some others might want to leave....

Not really. Have a look at how many players are OOC and far less likely to contribute/ remain on the list heading into 2026.

A new coach is not making 12 list changes in one season.

Melksham and McDonald are high value low cost players who will contribute off the field, even if they donโ€™t contribute a whole lot on it. Itโ€™s really not a hard decision to make without a senior coach.

Hardly a surprise at this point, but Jake is going around again!

EDIT:.....And apparently TMac is as well!

Awesome news and both well deserved.

Looking forward to seeing both running around next season.

Hmm, 12 on the player list and 13 results!

Considering how tight list spots is - this means that we are moving on some players.

I do think it is the right decision to keep these two but it will mean that we HAVE to squeeze the list now.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven Mayย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
