Holmes was taken with pick 20, Bowey at 21, Laurie at 22.

Am I missing something here?

The word was we originally traded for a second first round pick to target Holmes and Bowey

Geelong supposedly got word of this and traded with Richmond - who had the pick ahead of us - to take Holmes before we could

So Holmes and Bowey became Bowey and Laurie because we thought no one else was targeting Holmes in that range

To quote John McEnroe, you cant be serious.

Fogarty is way too one dimensional and just not that good.

Maybe straight swap for Philthorpe, but even then our real need is gun kicks with wheels not forwards

If we got Fogarty for Trac I'd take it and run, Adelaide would laugh at us though.

As long as we are dreaming I’ll take Curtain for Trac.

They would laugh as we trading a superior player for a 2nd forward who is as arrogant as the day is wide.

A player who was a liability in finals v a proven final performer.

They would be laughing that's for sure.

But then petty would have a golfing buddy

I’m ready for Tracc to find a new home but that would be the worst trade in sports history.

While I generally agree, it’s a bit early to write off Kolt

Laurie instead of Holmes though? The stuff of nightmares

As is Kolt instead of Morris.

That's some history re-writing.

How many clubs passed Morris, not once, but twice? To say we should have recruited him instead of Kolt in the first round is a bit rich. No other club did either.

And we had Holmes in our sights, but got beaten to it by Geelong who had a pick prior to ours. You can't do much about that.

Kolt was #13, From Pick 12 (Phoenix Gothard) - if you jump down to Pick 50, the only players who have really done well are
Logan Morris (#31), Shaun Mannagh(#36) and Joel Freijah (#45) - Could maybe include Joe Fonti at 44 too but he's not the same level as those other blokes as yet.
So its still early days for those players, but we're clearly not the only club to perhaps get this wrong (TBC)

Which only goes to confirm what a lottery the draft is once you get past the top dozen or so. Or even in the top dozen. There are plenty of high draft picks who never amounted to much, Jimmy Toumpas is not an outlier.

If you look at who we took with our first-round picks in the last two drafts we've nailed 3 out of 4 of them, which is good going. And still time for Kolt, but who knows.

No but someone else is!

Correct, plenty high draft picks never make the jump from under age to the top level. It's an educated guess at best.

Kolt looked a lot better on the inside @ casey over the finals I watched. I feel thats his spot more than an outside flanker. Obviously he is behind a few for that spot in the seniors though!

Because Petracca is soon to be the wrong side of 30, is uncertain whether he wants to be at the club, it's uncertain whether he'll regain his pre-injury form, is still a poor disposer of the ball and unreliable kick for goal and is on massive coin.

Fogarty is a big bodied forward with a bit of mongrel, is only 25, is a very good contested mark/set shot and would be on far less coin.

Like I said I'd take it and run but Adelaide would laugh at us.

Carlton's pick 10 is up for grabs, do we mortgage the future again and trade our current second and future 1st for it?

I would have thought some team would be sniffing around Ollie Henry from Geelong. Can't get a game and yet would walk into half a dozen other sides

He's got plenty of talent but he ran home to mummy after 2 years at the Pies and after 2.5 years of so-so performances at the Cats they finally worked out they were better without him. I doubt he wants to leave, but if he can't sort it out at Geelong I'm not sure he will anywhere else

I would be surprised if a club doesn’t approach Laurie.

Has had great VFL form, but is not one of our senior choices.

He would be a cheap get for a club that needs mids, like the Crows for example.

I also think WC could go after Woey, who also would be a cheap get for their senior side, back home and with more opportunities.

I'm glad you're not involved in our trading decisions then.

Surely we’d have to keep May… would be cruel to have him miss out on that party

Yep and we might bring back Lachie Hunter.
