As much as I called for this, I take no pleasure in it.

Thanks Simon for 2021 and brig a leader for nearly decade.

All the best.

I just hope this isn't another knee-[censored] decision by a Board who wants to be seen to be doing something.

Should have let him coach out the year.

Very disrespectful of our Premiership Coach. Gave everything he had in at times very difficult circumstances. Deserved better. I believe he truly loved the club.

Leaves a bitter taste in the same way as the sacking of Junior.

This is truly bizarre timing if it turns out to be true. After the St. Kilda loss there was a scheduled board meeting on the Monday morning, if you were going to do anything wouldn't that have been the time to do it, not wait a week and then after an 83 point win suddenly drop the axe?

First coach to be sacked after a win??

He did what I thought I’d never see in my lifetime- gave us a premiership.

Forever grateful for that

Football is a brutal business

All the best Goody, thanks once again

We may as well have waited till the end of the season to minimise compensation. I reckon fans and sponsors forced the issue though.

Hopefully we have a decent replacement lined up who knows about football? I also hope that the position doesn't sit vacant for the next 6 to 9 months!

Apparently, they do have a coach appointed, but he can’t start until next May.

I reckon there could be a couple of clubs looking for coaches, Carlton will be one

Forever a legend of the club, thanks Goody. Best for all parties concerned however.

A rare strong position from an otherwise impotent board.

That remains to be seen.

How strong a position will it be if they haven't sorted a strong replacement, or at the least have some serious irons in the fire - not to mention a clear timetable to sort a new coach in a timely fashion.

I mean, how do we go about trading players in and preparing for 2026 if we are still faffing about in November trying to land a coach.

Its funny coz it's true.

Surely he must have seen it coming.

Niceties aside, this is a business, and as brutal as it is, obligations are not a prerequisite for the job. Results are:

The business - The Team moves forward. Getting a new coach in place before draft day is now a priority.

The big picture wins.

No the timing is close to correct.

Gives us a chance to have a new coach or setup BeFORE pre season or the draft and to have things as settled as possible before thd end of this year,

Also we get in before Carlton or anyone else

Very interesting !

How soon until Carlton follows suit now? They will be fuming if we get first crack at the available coaches

This to me says that we have someone in mind already and want to get on the front foot quick smart.

I've wanted Goodwin gone since the Gold Coast game but at least let him see the year out..

All the best Goodwin. Thanks for 2021.

Of all people does it have to be broken by that [censored]?

Wow. I never loved Simon but never hated him. But I love him for delivering us a drought breaking premiership something I never thought I would see. I wish him all the best for the future.

Still not sure I trust this club making the right decisions going forward.

I am hoping we already have a coach in waiting, like a well run, ruthless club would do, but i am not confidant with that.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
