I'd like to see Lindsay have a week off/at casey. He is clearly spent after 20% of a preseason

Kolt and Sparrow out too

Only talls to replace them makes it an interesting week.

Do May/Petty come in? if so, for who?

One thing is for sure, whatever the selection committee decide, Goodwin made a mistake

The people riot even harder if Carlton beat us by under a goal yet again.

T Mac played a good game

But can we at least acknowledge that he gave away 2 unnecessary goals from dumb free kicks?

*I know others made mistakes also

To everyone wanting Howes back in as he played a good VFL game

He has played 6 games this year and not been great. Surely it is better for him to continue to gain confidence in the VFL with 3-4 good performances and then comes in?

I normally agree with this thinking but with finals out of the equation, I think we're better off playing him and getting games into him in prep towards next year.

I'd have him in and send Rivers back to the midfield group as he was down back a fair bit more than expected today.

Out: Sparrow, Lever & dunno...
In: Windsor, May, Howes

I would have said out TMac as I keep thinking this will be his farewell year but all year the bloke has been proving me wrong and looking the goods. Definitely playing better footy than Lever as who knows what's going on there with him. If he isn't 100% - just stick him in the fridge until next preseason.

Windsor must keep playing minutes and developing. I don't see why we'd play him or any of the other young talent in the twos as the drop off in quality is just far too much for my liking.

Everyone always has the extra half a second in the VFL. Mind as well get used to not having it in the ones if we think they're going to make it. Watching Spargo pass it off from 40m directly in front and Sharp shank kick after kick is enough for me to pass on them for now.

Very interesting selection week with Petty. We look so much quicker and mobile without JVR and Petty in the same forward line.

Does Petty come back? If so, for who? We gain nothing IMO by dropping Jeffo now. Personally, I’d leave Petty out.

Who gets dropped for May? I suspect it’ll be TMac but it probably should be Lever. The story that will generate may well dissuade us.

Does Howes get in? If so, for Sparrow? If not, for who? And who then gets Sparrow’s spot? I’d love to see us either reward Billings or give Laurie or Culley a shot, but I’m fully expecting Spargo or Sharp to come back, and I’m not really excited by that.

Out: Lever, Sparrow and Kolt

In: Adams, Howes, May

IN: May, Howes

OUT: Sparrow, Windsor

Tholstrup the sub. Petty will probably need another week.

OUT: Tholstrup, plugger Mac, Sparrow

IN: May, Petty, Mentha

I reckon Mentha needs another pre season under his belt before he pushes for selection.

He certainly looks exciting though.

Would you bring spargo back in for sparrow?

Yep.

And I suspect that's exactly what will happen assuming spargs is ready to go.

You're dropping a defender and 2 forwards but bringing in 3 defenders?

Regardless of what happens to Lever, surely Tmac, Turner and May makes us top-heavy down back?

No not Spargo🫣

The main thing I want to see is:

Out: Lever (managed)

Dress up his omission with 'managed,' give him the week off. He can come back via Casey. He's clearly lost mobility. May or Adams to replace.

Kolt and Windsor have no fitness/form but are our future.

Spargo for Sparrow. Not sure about the rest.

Spargo for Sparrow seems obvious to me.

I see Lever and TMac competing for the same spot.

Is Petty an automatic selection when available? He’s probably a better player than van Rooyen and Jefferson, but I want to see the latter pair get a run together.

What I’d do:

In: May, Spargo

Out: Lever, Sparrow

What I think will happen:

In: May, Spargo, Petty

Out: McDonald, Sparrow, Jefferson

It would be a crime to drop Jefferson after the best game he’s played. He did everything required of him, except nail his set shots.

If he finishes with 3 goals nobody would ever contemplate dropping him.

He has to play another month at least with Roo. This is the best our forwardline has looked in a long time. Jefferson has flaws and I have no idea if he will make it, but one thing he does well is his leading patterns. I thought he was very good in leading to either allow others free run to mark, or leading to where the kicker was heading.

He competed as well as I ever seen him compete at either level. Dropping him this week will undo all the confidence he would have gained. A crime against list development.

Rivers takes Sparrow’s role.

Gotta play younger if we’re looking to next season. Petty plays back.

Rivers in Sparrows role is a great idea!

No reason to play May or Lever in these dying weeks. Play TMac and Howes.

Time to put Petty down back.

Melksham kicking goals worries me as it simply underscores our dysfunctional forward line. There's no one at Casey playing his role so who replaces him?

Personally I'd rest Gawn as well but perhaps another game or two to guarantee him AA if that is thought to be important.

Gameplan and preparing the list for a strong first half of 2026 is what it's about

Agree on Jefferson, but TMac due to his age unlikely to be in our next GF team, so if there’s a kid to play in his spot for the remainder of the year… Howes or Adams.

Mcphe out

Needs a rest or reasignment

Petty can come back through the reserves.

Our talls were all serviceable and May would be next in line to get a call up potentially of the expense of Lever.

Howes can free up Lindsay to play on the wing

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
