Who replaces Gawn as our next captain?

The obvious picks 12 months ago were Petracca or Lever but that isn't happening.

We can't go Trengrove & Grimes again and ruin young kids careers.

Rivers hasn't come on. Sparrow is floundering.

It really has to be Kozzie but I don't think he wants that responsibility and media attention.

Am I missing anyone?

I was hoping for Neal-Bullen 12 months ago, now the cupboard is totally bare. There is not one player in the 23-28 group that warrants consideration.

If Gawn plays until he is 45 maybe we can draft someone in the next few years with some leadership ability and get them ready to take over.

If Trac is fully committed then I would go him with Viney vice

This question has broken my brain. There’s not much to choose from.

Bowey is a possible vice captain but I’m struggling to think of anyone with captain potential.

Lever the obvious one, but is his body starting to let him down?

Once upon a time you would have said Angus Brayshaw ... such a loss.

Then who? Jeffo??

Surely there are players in the leadership group and best 22 who are in the right age range. Gawn will probably happily captain for a few more years. In the meantime some more players might reach an appropriate age and others might establish themselves in the best 22. I'm not sure why anyone is worrying about this yet.

Lindsay will take the reigns from Gawn in 6 years

When Max is 40?

I’d be looking at a trade for a strong leader. A Callan Ward type who fronts up and plays their role every single week.

Lever will have his hands full trying to get a game.

Trac doesn’t want to be here and the team first stuff doesn’t come naturally to him.

Rivers needs to get settled in a role and become consistent, long before he can dream of being captain

I tend to agree with a few posts made today, as good as Max has been, he has also papered over a lot of cracks that are now being exposed.

It’s not a united club, pulling in the same direction.

Nobody in this current group is up to it! Damning as this assesment is, it will be someone from outside this group!

Had to be someone from the younger brigade.

Someone who will be here in 4- 5 years.

Send JT to the next Butchers Picnic. We'll find someone there.

Hopefully JT doesn’t bring in chopped liver

hard to believe the cupboard is so bare

I say Max to keep it until one of the younger brigade can step up

if Max can't hold on then Lever for mine

gawn won't relinquish the captaincy any time soon

at the moment there's not a lot of obivous leaders

You think he goes again? If so, how many more years?

I think it'll be Trac, but I'd love it to be Chandler. Not sure he's enough of a star, but his work this year has been very good, and he's shown over the last few years he has leadership in spades

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
