Lester to Melk. Andrews fail

We could really do with a (in form) Fritch type in this forward line. Will be VERY interesting to see how he responds when he is subbed in.

Can Sparrow carry his bags?

Trac doesn’t seem to impact the way he used to. Has become very vanilla

Not committing to the contest. Hanging back. Losing too many 1 v 1 s and not hitting the contest hard or with any pace / momentum at all.

Simon needs to take him aside and have a word for the 2nd half. NO passengers mate

Brisbane too good, even when we do play well.

Gret team goal to Rivers

Why is a 33 year old, injury prone Jake Melksham our only forward who actually launches at the ball when going for a mark?

Everyone else tentatively stands there waiting for the ball to come to them?

Nice goal Riv

Turner Kozzi Melksham

have all been good

Gawn Rivers Bowey Trac

good enough

Both him and Oliver look like they need another pre season but even then might just be the new norm for them

Oliver with 17 and 5 clearances. Neale with 15 and 4. Not bad.

Our skills picked up in the last 15 mins and as a result, we're still in it.

Putrid skills for the first quarter and a half, particularly kicking.

Who the hell is our kicking coach?

Nice goal Riv

Because most aren't natural forwards or have a forward's mentality / nouse.

I forgot about Turner before when i mentioned sending Macca up there for Petty.

So no need.

Swap Petty for Turner to have any chance of getting close on the scoreboard

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
