It’s a very fine line. But i think Goodwin has become too close to his players, i can understand why, he tells them to go out and put their lives on the line, but i think it has also clouded his judgement

I am looking from afar, but Respect of a Teacher, they are the ones i remember.

Simon will get another job, so i think it has reached that where it is probably mutually beneficial for both parties to part ways.

Bevo hasn’t lost his players so i wonder why he hasn’t been offered a new Contract.

I think our list is still capable of winning Flags, but a lot of work is needed to get there.

One of the better comments I’ve seen on Demonland.

The mind boggles why some supporters want to get someone to the club just because they have a Melbourne background. It’s so bloody stupid.

You go out and get the best, no matter what their background - it’s really not that hard of an idea to understand.

The last thing we need is an old Melbourne boys’ club running the place. We tried that for 50 years, didn’t work.

Not a fan of the inclusion of Presidents in that list. CEO, Coaching, admin roles - that is where you want the best of the best and develop in-house under those merited experts.

Board members, by definition almost, need to be supporters of the club and have the interests of the club above their professional aspirations in the game. The fact that he played games is immaterial to why Steven Smith is the next President.

So Jamar, Jones, etc - they make me nervous but not the Board.

And as an aside - Beveridge has done enough in the game to evolve past ‘former Dees player’ to predominate his CV…

Can't speak for everyone but Smith would bring a serious level of professionalism and business / legal kudos.

Great network of high level contacts as well. Hopefully get things moving on the Caulfield front.

That's if he has the desire and passion to commit. The time factor shouldn't be an issue given his consultancy commitments from what i understand.

He is definitely an intense character Luke Beveridge. However, would he want to coach the Melbourne Football Club? Would he be interested in a new challenge?

While, I am open to the possibility of Luke Beveridge being a potential candidate as our next coach, I think the TOP PRIORITY of who the Demons must target is John Longmire.

John Longmire is who we need!

While he only won the one flag for the Swans in 2012, he did get his team into Grand Finals 4 times in 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2024. John Longmire would bring respect and a winning culture to the Melbourne Football Club.

Let's just hope John Longmire isn't totally "cooked" and is open to the idea of a fresh start and a new challenge at the Demons.

I guess there’s a bit of an exception when it comes to board members, because they don’t get paid. While their expertise should always come first, they (usually) should be supporters of their own club, as supporting anyone else just seems to scream conflict of interest.

TYou all have short memories. Roos wanted a coach in waiting to hand over to. Stewart Dew did not want to leave his assistant position in Sydney and Bevo said no because he didn't want to be an assistant in waiting, he wanted to be in a senior coaching role and not understudy for a few years. I was hoping he would come to Melbourne and told him that at the time. He is his own man and and went to the Dogs and won them a flag. Don't forget he showed Stringer the door for his unacceptable behaviour at the dogs and showed early on he wouldn't tolerate bad behaviour.

I would personally prefer John Longmire, Adam Simpson or Ken Hinkley over Bevo. All three while not perfect consistently put out teams that can compete and contend, play attractive styles and have experienced big finals.

John Longmire would have been head hunted by multiple teams if he didn’t stand down imo

Bevo is just a more charismatic version of Goodwin. He's a people leader but he's not a strategist. Bevo, like Goodwin , heavily relies on the brains (assistants) behind the game plan. McRae is the same. Personally I think we should go with Longmire. Before last year's Grand final he was in clear 2nd place as the best coach around. He's made 5 grand finals and one of the best win/loss ratio in the modern game.

I'm genuinely baffled why some aren't considering him. I'd take 5 grand finals over a 13 year period any day.

100 percent — and there’s plenty out there. I’d be looking at someone like Justin Lepptitsch or even Cam Bruce. Both are super highly rated.

Absolutely. The game is changing and needs fresh ideas. Bevo is notorious for being stubborn and playing favorites. Look at the absolute talent that has actively sought to leave that club over the last few years!

IF we were going to look for a new coach, I would want someone young who has credentials, new ideas and has tasted victory at the highest level (ie. knows how to win). That Richmond coach looks suitable...

Personally, I’d rather we find someone who has played the game in relatively recent times., and is across the modern game (yes, I know SG fits that description, but he ain’t working). Search for another Mitchell… it may take time (so start NOW), and there’s a certain element of risk involved, but I’m tired of Melbourne always taking the safe road.

i'm not sure recycling former head coach's is the way to go. Voss has flamed out at Carlton and i can't remember too many recent examples that have failed in the role originally but succeeded a second time.

I reckon Leppistch is a great assistant but not what we should be looking for in the head role.

I would argue the Bulldogs have similar cultural issues to us amongst the playing group at least. JUH, Bailey Smith, Lachie Hunter and Libba (when younger) being the more obvious ones. I recall Dunkley getting out as he didn't like the professionalism/standards at the club. I wouldn't want more of the same in that regard although the bulldogs are probably a bit ahead of us in cleaning up their act. For me, this and their incredible inconsistency is enough to put me off Beveridge for coach. I'm a huge fan of Longmire if we went down that path.

I don't have a problem with any of those appointments noting:

1. Nathan Jones seemed a bit of an odd appointment as one of our line coaches given he has been in the media for the past 3 years since retiring and hasn't been coaching. I think his appointment in part is spiritual to help heal the playing group and so makes sense.

2. Alastair Nicholson seems an odd candidate as his past roles, e.g. CEO of AFLCA put him as more of an Administrator than someone who will establish our home base, align the admin and footy departments to drive success, and grow our membership.
