Dear Members,

I’m writing to acknowledge what has been a disappointing start to the season. Sitting at 0–5 isn’t the standard we expect of ourselves, and we know it’s frustrating, for our members, supporters, and everyone inside the club.

What I can assure you of is that we have a determined group of players and coaches who will drive the team’s response.

We saw during the third quarter of Saturday night’s match the style of game we want to play. If we can focus on delivering that style of play more consistently and effectively, keep training hard and sharpening our game, we’ll see better results. That’s the only way forward, and we must stay focused on improving.

We also know there’s been a lot of external commentary about our performances – that is to be expected when we are not playing well. Our values – Trust, Respect, Unity, and Excellence – have guided us through difficult periods before, and we’ll rely on them again to return us to a club where you feel proud to belong.

I want to thank our members for the role you play in helping the club through difficult times. We appreciate your passion and loyalty, and the support you provide our players and coaches is essential.

Our next game is against Fremantle at the MCG on Saturday at 1:20pm. It’s a new opportunity to show what we’re made of. The players and coaches are determined to lift and give our fans a performance we can all be proud of.

Off the field, our search for a new CEO is nearing its conclusion. We’re looking for someone who truly fits our long-term vision, and we look forward to sharing more news with you shortly.

Thanks for staying with us. I look forward to seeing you at the MCG as we push for a better result.

Go Dees!

Expected response, but neither strong enough nor good enough IMO

What a load of Codswallop!!!

People aren’t going Brad if changes aren’t made, lucky to get 10k on Saturday

No word of the coach having the support of the board?

Disappointing in a number of ways, Brad would have been well advised to not put anything out instead of this garbage.

Highlighting how good we were against Essendon in the 3rd quarter is simply laughable. Essendon are not a good side, especially defensively. Don’t treat us like fools, Brad.

I am encouraged by the fact he stopped short of putting the boards support behind Goodwin.

Goodwin needs to go now and I’ll accept a wooden spoon this year to get there.

Nothing he said would quell the violent mob we’ve become but, for me, I’m still glad he came out and said something.

Wooden spoon won't matter. He has a lifetime free pass like Adam Simpson. He'll go when he wants to

It's just more spin, we have been hearing it for years to be honest. What about the review? Thats created 0-5..... less words more action & get rid of Goodwin.

...AH one of those damned if he does, damned if he doesn't type letters.

I guess it's probably better Brad said something. For me anyway. I would think it strange if he stayed silent while the club looks to be imploding before our very eyes. It doesn't say a hell of a lot, though. Just lots of corporate spin. But he kind of has to?

I dunno. I am just confused. Where was all of this in the pre-season? Our deficiencies were known last year. What did we do to address those? What have we done differently, aside from up the ante with slow, boring, unaccountable football? Aren't we all loved up now? It can't be that. Where are the skills??? Fitness? Last quarters? What is happening? Aside from some shining lights with the kids, it's all been bad across the board.

Oh and pointing to ONE good quarter against a bottom, underwhelming bombers outfit is not the W he thinks it is.

What a mess.

Words won't sooth or assuage anybody. no matter what he says people won;t be happy.

The only way to respond is on the field. Sadly, i have no faith that our performances can turn around. Our method is shot, our players confidence on the floor and a coaching team devoid of ideas.

i expect the next major comms will be around kings birthday for Goody's farewell game.

This club, I swear… what’s the obsession with the third quarter or THAT one quarter out of the 4 that “shows” our true capabilities?

The game is played across 4 quarters, not 1.

Our list profile should be more competitive than this even though we may not be top 4 quality anymore due to a myriad of reasons.

Absolute joke.Would anyone be shocked if there is was a 15k crowd on Saturday and outnumbered by Freo fans?

Just now, Dee Viney Intervention said:

Good on Brad for putting something out there. But the time for talk is over, actions speak louder than words and there needs to be change. Time to show that we stand for something as a club and not accept mediocrity.

He did out of necessity, not because he wanted to. Typical PR pre crisis spin.

It's an interesting letter.

I thought the part where he mentioned the external commentary around our on field performance, he reverted to our club values as a guide in getting us through the tough times but yet no mention of support for the coach directly but.....

At about the standard id expect from Green. Hopelessly unqualified for the job. Looks like it was written to get bums on seats this weekend.

Search for CEO is nearing conclusion? Does that mean the position is still open or does it mean you are deciding between candidates?

If you are going to mention how our game plan worked in the 3rd quarter I hope you are also looking at how the Bombers we’re easily able to close it down in the 4th quarter.

what a load of bs, anyways needs to be doing one on one sessions with jvr outside of training, throw in jeffo and rivers since he is stats wise the worse kick for goal in the comp

I appreciated that he came out and said something. Rather have that than silence.

However I did have to laugh that we are such a bin fire that it’s only 5 games into the season and we’ve already gotten a “don’t panic!” letter.

"Thanks for staying with us", is an odd sign off. I'm not sure what I think of that.

What did you all expect him to say? You don't publicly torch everyone - the media are already doing that. Let the shouting stay behind closed doors.

Was good Brad Green communicated something to Melbourne members and supporters.

Unfortunately, he will end up with egg on his face if Melbourne get belted by Fremantle.

Sadly, I will be surprised if we have over 10,000 show up at the MCG on Saturday. Hope I am wrong though.

As others have mentioned, the only relevant information in Brad Green's letter was the search for the new CEO. Hopefully, it is someone with the capable skills and experience as they have a massive job on their hands fixing all the issues at the Demons.

I'm glad he is talking to fans.

For me the elephant in the room is what happened to the FD review? Are Crowe and Shand doing the mentoring consulting jobs we were promised?

So am disappointed there is no update on the review and on which things he listed in a pre Xmas letter have or haven't been implemented. And how further implementation will help us get better That isn't asking for anything confidential.

The President commissioned the FD review, it is up to him and the CEO to ensure it is implemented and if it goes off the rails to make sure it gets back on track.

To me it looks like the review has gone off the rails and no-one is monitoring its progress.

Or was it just a PR exercise to quieten the masses and the media.

Tbh. That letter is somewhat embarrassing.

Just trying to remember who helped orchestrate Bails' assassination?? Who was that again .....

My god we need to be so much better than this.

Yes i agree. The Rock and a Hard Place.

He had to say something, and i am glad he has. Silence is not an option.

Until the CEO moves into the desk…

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
