I was going on last year's effort

I couldn't bring myself to watch last week's game.

So on that I'll give you the green light since I'm not up to speed.

Mind you as mentioned in another thread, a garden gnome could do a better job than some of these blokes.

Keep up the great support DJ, it's fans like you that keep this club going and will ultimately see us through these current dark ages.

Your a better supporter than me.

It's hard Yakka atm Deever! No judgement from me... doubt I'll be there Saturday given I fly to Phillipines Saturday night!

THIS 🤣

That constant 'drop A, B, C, D, E and F' and replace with G, H, I, J, K and L

...nek week, G to L are not great, because they are largely still developing/depth (true), so A to F return.

Not saying we shouldn't try guys out. When they're ready. But the constant clamouring for guys, many of whom are our stars who are actually performing (not at their best - along with pretty much everyone else right now) to be dropped is ridiculous. I read someone here dropping Maxxy? lol.

I rea could not agree morelly hate to single out a pkayer but JVR is a big problem for our midfield. He refuses or is unable to get separation and lead flat out at the ball carrier (and hsi ball read and bodywork is sub par). He's just not quick enough and his only strength is his pack crashing ability which the game has moved away from. He's taken 6 marks in 5 weeks. He needs to play back or be dropped. At this point its not about confidence, you have to make tough calls and realise he isnt the right piece for this puzzle.

Could not agree more. I have been saying similar for most of 2024. He is an average KPF. It's time some statements were made. He and Fritz need to be dropped. Play however for the next 2 weeks. If Goodwin cannot do a large player change this week then it is time to go. I have not called for his head before but after last week's selection disasters he has lost me. I keep saying this but when you have been without kpf's for 3 years and a player who you bring to the club for that exact purpose kicks 5 goals at Casey then doesn't get selected! Why? You have one last chance Simon. Big changes this week or on your bike.

Wow, how depressing. Coming up against a Freo side that has a bunch of mega quick small forwards plus a key target in Treacy and who have a well planned defensive system where they chip and switch before going forward. They also have won their past three against us at the MCG - remember how they ended our run in 2022.

Here's what Goody could try:

1) Mix up his zone defence with an actual man-on-man defence - perhaps start each quarter in a man, then switch to zone at 10min mark once players tire.

2) Take Viney out of the middle rotation, where he continually bombs it long to a contest, and play him as a hard tackling small forward - our current trio of small forwards (Henderson, Spargo and Sharp) combined for one tackle last week! And while we are at it, get your best tackler from the VFL (Kynan Brown) in the side.

3) Send JVR to defence - we've all been saying he's out of form since Rd 2, but Goody keeps persisting - maybe it's time to try something different.

4) Rejig the forward line. Unfortunately at least one of Trac and Kozzie has to start near the goal square - that worked reasonably well in Adelaide. They are our only players who look remotely dangerous up there. And Chandler needs to go back up there as well - his smarts and discipline could come in handy as Jordan Clark is likely to play on him and he provides a heap of their run.

5) Think about match-ups. Sparrow has to go to Brayshaw - he's too good not to have a hard tag. Olly has to take Young as he's not fit enough to take Serong or Brayshaw. A decision has to be made on who plays on Serong and my own view is that Ed is our only player capable of keeping up with him. That means Rivers or Bowey has to take Ed's right-side wing. T-Mac has to play on Treacy. McVee has to go to Shai Bolton and Windsor has to play on Frederick - their two quickest players with our two quickest defenders. Amiss likes to lead up all the time, so JVR's extra pace is perfect for him. Put Lindsay on Murphy Reid - he loves playing on his U18 buddies and if that means Salem has to play on that left-side wing so be it - at least we get our best low-kicking player nearer goal.

6) Actually drop a few players. It's amazing what non-selection does to fire up players. At very least Spargo, Henderson and Sharp have to go (I'm sorry but as small forwards they have not been effective) and Melky should be sent to the sub role. If JVR isn't playing back, then he also has to go and get his confidence back in the VFL.

7) Stop worrying about which group your players have trained in. Just about all of them are smart enough to get the intricacies of playing certain types of roles and you are allowed to move players around on the magnet board - even mid game.

Out: Spargo, Henderson, Sharp and possibly May (injured).

In: Brown, McVee, Fullarton (yes I know Goody doesn't rate him, but he has to play to give Gawny a cut out and he looks extremely fit at the moment) and Turner (if May is out).

Start in a man-on-man format. Switch to zone after 10 mins.

B: McVee McDonald May (or Turner)

HB: Bowey JVR Windsor

C: Rivers Langdon Salem

HF: Petty Viney Fritsch

F: Pickett Petracca Chandler

Ru: Gawn Oliver Sparrow

Int: Langford, Brown, Fullarton, Lindsay, Melksham (sub)

Thankfully i'll be in flight heading back to the old country for a stint so will miss this game. and the next 3-4

i'll also miss the rest of the clown show election campaign

Fullarton just has to play this weekend. I know he isn't anything special, but we are crying out for a 200cm forward who can at least bring the ball to ground!

If no body from Casey was good enough to get a game last week how do they get a game this week.

be a little funny to award a VFL player after a bye though, 'body of work' i know and get but we continue to miss the mark (in all senses).

I'm happy with Jeffo over Petty or Fullars as well, just don't want him to be thrown forward with little support.

I'm confident he will be a good forward for us though.

Actually Treacy and JVR’s contested marks stats in their first 3 seasons are very similar.

JVR 45 games for 40 contested marks. Treacy 36 games for 32 contested marks. Both have had long periods of regular stinkers whilst developing. Tracey now is not the player he was a couple of seasons ago. All we can hope is JVR to track the same path.

Yes 100% along with 5 others.

I find it difficult to see a win, a change of players and a plan that our skill level can implement would be good.

Or moved back. Perty or May forward.

So what everyone gets wrong abot KPF is its not goals per game but marks per game that matters. Find me a handful of players that average less that 4 -5 marks per games that were elite or those above that who were duds.

If you can't meet this minimum by your 3 rd or 4th season you're not going to make it as a KPF.

Yeah fair points. Looks to not have the strongest hands. But I oscillate between:

Does he not have the ability to perform long run or is trying to develop as a young key forward in this team extremely difficult and a confidence killer? The vast majority of players haven’t improved/gone backwards so that points to an overall issue.

You could very well be right in that marking indicates he won’t make it, but scoring goals also isn’t nothing. Especially in this very very low scoring forward line. I’d just give him more time personally. Starting by putting him back to VFL and see how he goes.

How on earth is the line for this game 14.5 pts?

So essentially you can almost double your investment if Freo win by just 15 points.

Insanity. The line should be north of 30. I suppose it just reflects on the market’s lack of faith in Fremantle on the road.

Freo 40+ is $3.90

This surely has to be the week on non negotiables. 4 quarter efforts, follow the team rules, dont be selfish. Any player who doesnt do these things is not bought in and must go back to Casey, regardless of the brand or the cost of the player to the club.

Now is the time for the players to show the ‘love’ they feel to the coach, each other and the supporters by doing the little things, all game. Even if we lose, it will be a more important milestone on our recovery than another one quarter game and ‘gloss overs’ and disappointments.

if ever there was a game that we have close to no chance, it is this week. I'd be happy to keep the loss to < 50 points as it would at least be consistent.

Goody will IMO setup this game to minimize the deficit and hope for a counter attacking miracle.

I hope we don’t set up to minimise the ‘damage’, screw that i say.

We were well and truly in the game at 3/4 time on Sat night and to watch us sit back early in the last like the Italian national soccer team of the 90s defending a 1-0 lead was excruciating. The game was there to be won and we should’ve been attacking to win it. People pay a lot of money for memberships and to watch that was beyond frustrating. No wonder supporters are fed up.

I think you're right. You're definitely right as far as Petty is concerned. His (very) few standout games in the past 18 months have been those where he's taken 8-10 marks.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
