Goodwin game plan really conceded 8 goals by a bottom team what have we become! I have been asking since 2022 who have we traded in to improve our list since winning the flag, compare to Cats, pies & hawks. I fear holding onto our talent will be a struggle.

But if the forwards actually ran angles and to different spots it would help the mids from bombing it in.

This is also true.  Where was the effort to create separation from opponents? It's ok to run to dead pockets if that's going to break up the oppo's back structure but all I saw was our tall forwards flailing against out numbering opponents.

I would have preferred it if we'd won.

Goody said we might experience some ‘teething’ problems early in the season.
Reckon we might be looking for our dentures.

Chandler gets a bad rep on here, think 25 disposals and 3 goals should be praised. Especially when people say he doesn’t score enough etc

Agreed. What’s with shutting down praise of a player who otherwise gets roasted here?

Sack Goodwin.

I tolerated last year but today has done it for me.. officially off him now.

Since 2021 we've gotten worse as each year goes by. The lovey dovey fake persona this off season was just a cover up for the rot that still exist within the footy club.

I just don't see Goodwin taking us forward, we've slowly but steadily regressed year on year since the premiership.  I don't see him adapting, and I think he's too close to the players to make the hard choices that need to be made.  And there are definitely hard choices ahead based on this game.

I'm officially moving to the Goodwin has to go camp as of this, admittedly helped along by how much I absolutely hate Norf.

Have we? I think we were closer to a flag come 2023 finals than in 2022 and then last year was a disaster. Today was dreadful after a solid effort last week. So currently a regression of ONE year?!!!

This is the flattest I’ve felt by a defeat since 2019 and that’s not because it was our worst performance (Freo away at Alice far worse) but because you just know it was the end of an era for some.

Important we don’t overreact after one game, however, Goody has had this whole pre season to work on our shape moving forward and how we deliver into the forward half. It’s as bad as it ever was. The best sides (hawthorn, gws, Collingwood) link up with chain running, overlap and handball precision which creates space for the forwards to work and options for the midfielders to kick to. The outcome is you have your forwards split, and your smalls get to the fall.
Right now, all teams have worked out if you let us have the forward half territory we happen to enjoy, it makes us easier to break when you transition back the other way.

And so now it’s important we do something different. We cannot continue to keep drawing blood from this stone. The stone is completely dry.

Over to you Goody - we know you can motivate but can you coach, can you innovate, can you teach these guys to see the field differently?

My heart says no.

2023 we were very very very good, injuries and set shots cost us a flag.

Since then, yes, I completely agree. I can tolerate on field performance to an extent but under his watch the culture went backwards too.

I'm usually optimistic, but there's little to take away from that performance. On that showing we'd be struggling to win a game in the VAFA, let alone the VFL. It's going to be a long season unless something changes drastically in the next few weeks. It's probably safe to book some holidays for September.

If you put all our default weaknesses into one game, we saw it today. Fumbles, disgraceful kicking, unfathomable decision making, slow transition, and our entry into F50 dysfunctional and error ridden.

The Roos slaughtered us through the middle both offensively and defensively. Our lack of energy was worrying, and the amount of time they wandered around us away from stoppages screams laziness or tiredness or both.

Max is a warrior but seeing him run past our own defenders and midfielders into D50 to help out shows how poor we were.

Losing happens. You can’t win every game in a competitive competition.

However, we have lost the same way for 3 years… we have no forward half structure or connection, there is zero cohesion it really is a rabble.

I could take us losing if we lost trying to play a different style but it’s literally been the same [censored] for 3 straight years.. it’s really the square block in a round hole kind of approach and that solely falls onto the footy department and coaching staff, led by Goodwin. He simply cannot front another media conference and spin his [censored]. We have had enough learnings, we are simply just too far behind the 8 ball in game plan. We have wasted the prime of the careers of some very very good players, lucky we fluked a flag I guess along the way. A flag might I add that no one could go to.

We didn’t fluke that flag, however everything else you said I absolutely and wholeheartedly agree with

It's the fact we capitulated so easily in that final term. To let a team like nth get that run on, come on they're not Geelong or Brisbane.

I'm not angry, just disappointed or maybe I just wasn't surprised

Think comms said they scored 7 goals straight from the centre bounce. Unforgivable

I'm hoping North are lot better than everyone realises. But right now we need an impressive win against Suns to restore any morale.

Want to be positive but it was pretty disgusting.

Langdon isn't an inside midfielder.

Rivers really struggling there too with the extra opposition pressure.

Trac didn't look right. He didn't want to be out there today even during warm ups.

Forward line terrible and need to start leading to the ball carrier. The ball carrier needs to honour the lead to start encouraging it more often. This is the most frustrating thing we supporters have had to watch for 3 years now and it's difficult not to get annoyed at the coaching team. STOP BOMBING IT IN!

Every time I see Woewodin in the team I know we are going to struggle. Howes has joined him. Depth still an issue.

Not so much fluke, but everything worked perfectly for us. Unlikely to happen again.

Our list became worse YOY, no idea why we were not able to attract top talent FA for the last 3 years. Besides Grundy who we dismissed after one season.

Will be a long season. Having said that lots of teams have had some yoyo style results after just 2 rounds.

Keen to see May, McVee, Windsor and Pickett back in the side

Lindsay looks excellent and I can stomach potentially not having a top 3 pick this year in lieu of his recruitment. Could be a long season though with not much to cheer for with that in mind.

As for today, what the hell was that? Let’s just kick it to Charlie Comben one more time. And let’s just completely lie down at the start of the 4th even though the game is still up for grabs.

Too many VFL standard players and senior players who either haven’t shown up in 2025 or can’t kick to save themselves (sometimes both).

Don’t see the point of playing Woey. He’s not up to it, tries hard but this is AFL. Sharp sucks. Turner frustrates, Howes panics, and Bowey loves a shank. Spargo also is not ready.

Then we have Langdon who was close to best on for North with his dire disposal and Fritsch who hasn’t turned up at all in 2025.

I’ll keep the faith for now but that seemed eerily similar to the Eagles game last year which blew up our season. But actually much worse .

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
