A new season begins and current day players Clayton Oliver, Max Gawn, Christian Petracca and Jack Viney are looking to add to their 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st Demonland Player of the Year Honours. Or will a new Champion be crowned in 2025. Your 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 votes from the 3 point loss to GWS.

A qu DL, how do our votes each week contribute to the DL player of the year?

we vote 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, each week (sometimes not even that!) but how do you collate everyone’s votes to work out who wins…?

I'm a bit late to the votes party but this seemed to be the place to gloat about Xavier Lindsay being only marginally less impactful than Dan Houston, for a saving of about $500k and probably an additional draft pick.

We put the names of everyone who votes (and votes properly 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) into a random generator on the internet and it spits out 3 names each week and we collate those each week to produce the winner. Probably more accurate than the Brownlow despite a midfielder almost always winning it.

Even though Carlton lost to Richmond last week, I still expect Cripps to be awarded 6 votes in the Brownlow.

I saw the game via TV, not at the ground. My votes:

6. Gawn

5. Lever

4. Petracca

3. McDonald

2. Lindsay

1. Salem

PS: I look forward to giving some votes to forwards as the year progresses. Starting next week, would be nice.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
