Jai certainly appears to play taller than his height.

Could he become a deep marking forward like Frittata, and or a big mid?

Appears to have footy smarts

Given hes 6'4... do you see him as a 7 footer ??

That notion of a big mid had crossed my mind.

That was the 'model' the pundits had in mind for Jackson. Not a ruck per se...but big mobile utility.

He has a bit to learn still. He looks very keen.

Another preseason... could be a very interesting and promising year ahead for Jai.

He's enjoyable to watch.

Pleasingly younger than I actually thought he was, he'll be turning 23 just before the start of the 2026 season. Definitely should get an extension with us. Unfathomable that WCE let him go.

These are the shrewd bits of business we have to conduct to work our way back into finals contention.

We have to get creative and think outside the box atm.

We just don't have world class facilities or wadds off cash to offer prospective recruits.

Look at the state leagues in particularly the SANFL Billy Cootee midfielder and a couple of dashing half back/back pocket types floating around at Norwood worth a good hard look at.

Set to sign a multi year deal according to the Midweek tackle on Fox Footy.

Jai has signed on until the end of 2028!

This is great, he's settled in so well into the team. Well and truly taken his opportunity.

Great signing for the Dees, well done MFC and Jai Culley.

I reckon he’s a high half forward. Quick, powerful, unreal in the air. If he rotates between there and the wing he has the potential to be a mason wood type headache for opposition given virtually all of his opponents are going to be a mismatch either in the air or on the ground.

Agree with this.

One of the reasons he looks dangerous forward is because he often drifts forward from a wing, where he brings his wing opponent back with him: they can't compete in the air like a medium defender would.

His ability to rotate through that makes him a really difficult match up.

i know that daniel hoyne compared langford to the puddy tatts' ollie dempsey, but culley reminds me more of him in his style of play

and the headband, obvs

I just love watching him every time he plays now. He's got this extra bit of reach or flexibility factor that few others have, it's hard to explain I just like it.

Only going to get better.

Such a shame. But he'll bounce back. He's a great young fella and he's got a winners attitude.

Hoping for a smooth recovery for Jai, he brings great energy, attack on the ball and marking skills to the side, I was expecting him to have a big possession game in the mid to high 20s soon. Such a shame.

Yep I think this was the trajectory, gutted

@Ghostwriter if u see him at training wish him the best from all of us here at demonland and a speedy recovery.

As Jordan Lewis said in the after game - I hope he takes the fact that he has shown enough to be an AFL player and get that extension. If this was last year, it would be a different story.

Shocking luck for the young man just as he has established himself as a fairly important player in the overall team setup. Him and Sharp may not be as high impact, but they are so important in maintaining shape in and around stoppages as release options.

His work rate on the wing and his overhead marking ability which has been so underrated especially in our forward half will be missed.

He’s signed on till 2028, so at least he can take all the time he needs to just recover and come back when he is ready.

Still gutted. Poor guy, he was really starting to show what he can do. He's had a terrible year for injury - breaking his wrist, only just got the sleeve off and now his knee.

The club's insta/borg post was really sweet.

To beat Sydney,, With J.Culley devastating injury I would bring Langdon back to the wing, also bring in AMW to replace Langdon backline spot and drop Xavier taylor for Tom McDonald or Jed Adam’s. I would also give latrell time to develop more of his craft (not skill) in the vfl and replace with with paddy cross.

Ricky mentha is also starting to gain confidence and playing more freely.

Bowey should not be rushed into the side, he should get match fit in the vfl before going back into the one’s

I definitely will 💖

Devastating for Jai. One minor consolation is his captain stands as an example of overcoming this challenge to recover and continue on for another 10 years

Gutted. Devastating news. Out for the season.

Jai missed out on the draft, worked hard, got picked up by the Eagles and showed he could play. Injury set him back and he was delisted.

He worked hard. Got his chance. Got listed by the Dees. Showed us all that he belongs at AFL level. He’s a Demons mad.

The club will support him. He’s contracted through to end 2028. He’s shown he works hard. He’ll be back.

I’ve said it before, lots of times. Our club is incredible at keeping long term injury players in great spirits. It’s astounding how they manage to do this successfully time and time again. I know every player handles things differently, but I can’t see any reason why Jai would be any different.

That said, poor old Luker is in a funk currently. His spirits are at a worrying low. ☹️ But that’s for another thread.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
