The HUN seem to be reporting that renowned mindfulness mentor Ben Crowe has joined Melbourne as a mindfulness coach. Has previously worked with Ash Barty, Dylan Alcott and Steph Gilmore.

The question you need to ask did Ben Crowe help them or did they help his reputation.

I met a sports psychologist who supposedly helped an athlete reach their potential but the truth was the athlete would have got there with or without his help because he had the drive to succeed.

People generally need an ear to vent to or listen to their problems without any boundaries, there is a saying "god gave man 2 ears and 1 mouth so you need to listen twice as much as you speak".

'Mindfulness' played a big role in 2021 and the premiership.ย  iirc players and coaches did their own thing in this space.

Without wanting to sound critical maybe we lost our way a little in that regard.

It is often said on here 'its all between the ears'.ย

His appointment most likely results from the FD review.ย  I'm rapt we have a 'mindset' coach who will bring some structure to this critical aspect of elite performance.

Unbelievable get for the footy club.ย

Had the privilege of attending a leadership forum up in Brisbane last year where he was a guest speaker and conducted some workshops. He spoke about all things mindfulness, leadership and perspective.

Personally I came away from his session really rejuvenated and gained a whole new perspective from a leadership and life perspective.ย

He's worked with some absolute superstars in the sporting industry. He was prominent with Richmond throughout their dynasty years, Ash Barty, Mick Fanning, Dylan Alcott, Louis Dobbelaar and many more.

If you get a chance follow him on Insta and LinkedIn. Has some really good content.

Darren Shand and Ben Crowe.. what a combo. No excuses now.

Put down your phones and breath guys

Now, where's my pay cheque?

'Mindfulness'

Mindfulness is good, I'm a bit wary of guru's in this space though.

I've also attended some of his workshops via my employer. In my opinion, he makes any organization better. In addition to the success he has had mentoring high performance athletes, he has also worked with industry CEO's. I love the thought of Clarry & Trac having access to Ben all season.ย

Mindfulness and mind-set coaching.

When it's bad, it's rubbish and actually does harm.

When its good, it trains people to be aware of the things they're doing which aren't actually helpful, and to deliberately choose to replace them with actually useful habits.

It can also be quite good for learning to not give two ****s about external opinion, including avoiding the trap of reacting disrespectfully just to prove you don't care.

Really optimistic about this appointment.

But how does it go with 'learnings'?

Too far gone, Fence.ย

The I think the ones to watch out for are those who make podcasts about it for a living, rather than being out there practicing it behind the scenes of organisations.

Another big appointment by the Dees, Ben Crowe is a great get for our footy team old players and youngsters alike. We want that winning mindset across the board.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

This guy is fantastic - the real deal. He did incredible work with Ash Barty, this would be a phenomenal get for the club, if true.

i'm sure he could do wonders for your slitheraphobia, mr fence

Played against him in our school footy. ย He was good but thought he was better than everyone else !!! Unlucky not to get in an VFL list back then but like most of us, was not good enough. ย At least he finally gets his chance to be in an AFL system. ย Hope he helps us. ย
ps.ย A calm mind is the most lethal machete to chop the miseries of our life. We spend almost all our time listening to the things people are saying that we rarely pay attention to our conversation with ourselves. It's not always what we hear but it's our inner conversation with ourselves that shapes our life.

Sounds good!

Took Ash from 15th to 1st.

The required improvement fromย ourย current position should be a doddle for him, then.

I think they lean in to each other.

Had a lot to do with Ben 15 years ago - not sure since then but always a ripping guy and excellent mentor.

Good outcome I think; if nothing else players will respect him with what heโ€™s done and who with.

A great appointment.

Hopefully Max retires number 1 at retirement age rather than Oliver or Petracca at the peak of their powers ala Ash Barty.

Having listened to him speak and seen the mindset he creates we should be excited.

I see it as a Burgess like appointment but with menatal not physical health although there are parallelsย

He will advocate for the cultivation of warm-heartedness and human values such as compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, commitment , contentment and self-discipline. ย

Doesn't get much of a run on Sky News then.

The first thing that springs to mind for me when I think of such occupations, is Patrick Swayze as Jim Cunningham, the motivational speaker, in the film Donnie Darko.
